I was charged $39.50 for my gold tier this month after reselecting the Golden tier last month. I have a sneaking suspicion this was a mistake made by Lotrek and that Patreon has gone in on the back end and now made the actual payments match the displayed amount. From the fact that this thread lists $45 as the Golden tier, it seems the most likely reason. Also, I swear that Lotrek sent out an email a long time ago explaining why the listed price didn’t match the actual amount charged. Does anyone else remember this? Did anyone who did not reselect their tier have a change in payment amount this month?

If it is the case that Patreon was pocketing money from every Oath PCC patreon, or someone at Patreon was embezzling money, I don’t think that this stated policy would hold any water. That said, I don’t think we should jump to any conclusions. It could just as easily have been a mistake made by Lotrek (and frankly it seems more than likely this was the case).

It was a $600+ painful experience for me.

Patreon's rules do not protect them from negligence on their part. I am not willing to let this go at this point in time and plan on investigating it further.

I emailed my contact person at Patreon and let them know that there are a lot of very upset patrons, and that they might want to get proactive about supplying an explanation and potential remedy. Hopefully we will hear back soon.

To add my experience to the conversation, my Patreon charge was correct this month after reselecting my tier as well. Mine was a ~$9/month difference. I'm not out as much as some, but it is frustrating.

After re-selecting my Manic tier, along with tax (Ohio tax) my total is $64.00.

I was paying about +$7 extra.

My Patreon contact got back to me and said that their payments team has a large backlog and she does not have a turnaround time as to when she will receive an update from them. My initial contact with Patreon was all the way back on December 28th, so who knows how long this might take.

I'm supposedly in this tier for $38.00/month CDN as per Oath Membership Page

My Settings Membership shows $54.00CDN after changing a few days ago

But now it says my charges for next month are $38CDN

Looks like I have to re-adjust my pledge once AGAIN so it's according to the Oath product page.



My take, is our pal Lotrek has been raising the membership costs slowly on us and nobody was non the-wiser to notice the price increase.

I have to admit that I am a little bit worried that this issue could leave Lotrek holding the bag and make him want to quit Patreon, if it ends up being some sort of mistake on his part. Pesonally, I am happy to pay what I had been paying all along, I just think it needs to be transparently advertised (and not randomly increased when changing payment method/currency).

If, on the other hand, this ends up being Patreon’s fault, I would expect them to rectify the issue ASAP.

I didn’t want to bother Lotrek with this issue, as I thought it was an issue with Patreon. Now I’m not so sure. It seems like they may be knocking on his door at some point. I think I’ll send him a message to let him know what is going on. Maybe he will have some idea as to what is happening and be able to resolve it.

have contacted Patreon as well. From the Uk but paying in dollars so any additional currency charges should be done by my credit card . Believe i am paying 42 dollars instead of the 38 that it should be

When the Golden Tier was originally available, it was $45 USD, which is what I have been paying this whole time. Are people saying the cost went down at some point to $38 USD?
I figure it is just a display error. Why would the cost go down? Definitely curious to see where this goes.

I think you are right that it is some sort of display error. Like I have been saying, I think Lotrek explained this a long time ago, but no one seems to remember what he said. I was paying $48.50/month plus tax since I upgraded to Golden Patron tier from Patron tier at the beginning of year 2. Did he raise the price for year 2? When I recently adjusted my payment currency for a very brief moment because I was confused by the discrepancy in cost vs the $38 listed price, it changed my cost to $54 plus tax. Did he raise the year 3 cost to $54, and when I tried to adjust things, the system defaulted to that? I have no idea. At this point, I don’t even know what I should be paying.

Is anyone having issues like this with any other creators? I'm a Thirdway patron, and it's charged the correct amount every month without issue.

On page 1 of this post it does say the golden tier is $45 per month. On the membership page it says it's $38 for me. In my billing history, it shows the correct $45 plus tax. Some people are paying less than $45 for golden tier? Keep your voices down lol (kidding, of course)

I thought mine was consistent up until I just checked. On my Patreon app where I see the tiers, it says Golden Tier is $39.50 per month. This is what I thought I had signed up for. On my receipt history, I was charged $48.50 plus tax each month since May 2022. At this point, I'm paying closer to Manic tier ($57 a month at tier selection, which is probably incorrect too...). If I'm understanding correctly, there are some backers paying $28 a month for the exact same thing I'm paying ~$52 for, so some people are paying less and some people are paying more(?) I have submitted a ticket.

If it was $45 for Golden back in 2020, it must've changed to $48.50 for year 2. Anybody in the US start in Year 3 who can tell us what they pay for Golden? It would be nice if Lotrek listed the price for each tier in a Patreon update for transparency purposes, just like others do. It seems what's shown on the front end is not what is being charged on the back end, which is false advertising. I can't really determine who the culprit is here or if there was any bad intent. This seems to be an oversight that needs to be corrected now that it's been brought to light.

To compare, my Lorenzo patreon is consistent as expected. $33 a month for Kings.

This is getting messy. I too vaguely remember that notorious missive saying how the cost was the cost and that for some weird Europe reason, the posted price was different. I have been paying the same amount posted on the first page of this thread since day 1, but I'm not sure what to think anymore because I too see that tantalizing $38 Golden Patron option.

I am intrigued by this. My patreon page shows the price for the Golden tier as 38 Euro, not dollars. Could it be that at the start of the patreon subscription way back 38 euro equals approximately 45 dollars? And somehow the Patreon payment system kept that as the conversion? Or this doesn't make sense and it should not matter? I mean normally it shouldn't matter what the conversion rates are.

You pay just about the same that I do. We can't assume this is Patreon's doing until we get a concrete response from them and/or Lotrek.
