Heck. theory eleven just put out the lotr box set for $100 for theee decks (only one of which is foiled). No gilding. Cardboard box.
From theory11 product page:
The box set contains four total decks: two green and two gold.
Evidently, the middle row has two decks stacked on top of each other. Odd choice. Regardless, neither deck has gilding, and the carat case will be walnut treated with linseed oil--like Lorenzo's patreon case. ANd of course no coin is included on T11's set.
My point was to illustrate that production costs have steadily gone up to the point where even 'established' brands like T11 who up until recently were the kings of 9.95 price points have begun changing their sales methods. In the end the T11 decks are also printed in ENORMOUS print runs. 1000 is a drop in the bucket to them in terms of edition size. But also I believe that 1000 collectors will be interested in these sets. Especially as subsequent ones are released and collectors find themselves hunting previous editions.
The goal kevin has set for the CAP brand is 4 deck projects a year (2 colorways each) all come in the walnut case with the deck specific coin. There will be a 3rd variant of each deck realease as a 4-deck anniversary edition. The plan is for 3 years and 12 decks. He's already completed the Villa Beluno deck (the 2nd in the CAP brand --i previewed it in another thread) and 2 more decks are already in development.
