I got a bunch. I do love it every year. I keep what I want, and trade or sell the ones I don't. And I like the gift wrap on them too. It's fun!
I haven't slept for ten days, because that would be too long.

I may just end up buying decks that I want from others, although the fun of unwrapping mystery decks sounds fun. I haven't done that before. Grimmlore Tartan looks really intriguing...I'm also curious what the Fantastique cards look like.

They will probably be like the original deck...

I ended up going in for 6. Hope I don't regret it. I have stayed away from mystery decks before now.

I actually was about to get 4 mystery decks since it's been such a long time since I bought anything from AoP that I don't have the majority of the decks listed, and I was hoping for a chance at the Overlook deck. But when I tried to check out, they were charging over $12.00 to ship just 4 decks. It was a timely reminder of why I avoid AoP and I quickly emptied my cart and got the hell out of Dodge.

Yeah, there's no way there isn't a cheaper domestic shipping option via USPS - why are they using DHL in the US?

If you use discount code take10, it'll take 10% off the order. That'll take some of the sting off the shipping cost. That's what put me over the edge.

Got my haul today and overall I'm pretty disappointed. I only received one unique deck to add to my collection, the others were either repeats or different colorways. I received:
2 James Coffee green
1 Cybernetic
1 Red Wheels
1 Lady Moon
1 Ultimate Deck

Perhaps I just got unlucky since 18 out of those 25 decks are decks I don't own. I'd like to see what others got but I don't think I'll participate in the mystery deck sale again.

Got my decks today. Luckily I didn't get anything I already had, and only one double. Got 2 Smokey Bear- Mustard Editions, DKNG-Purple, Messymod, Eames-Black Edition, and a Just Type.

I think you can see here every deck that you can get buying these. I think the Ramen one is nice. I still debate if I will buy some, because shipping is pretty high to Europe.

I like the excitement with mystery decks, although you might get some shitty decks in the process. I ordered five this time.

Interesting. Microsoft EDGE now has a coupon autosearch feature . When I tried AoP to see just how much shipping would cost me, EDGE found me a 15% off coupon. For those who want to do 1 more AOP splurge before 2023 comes, use code: cookie instead of take10 .

AoP is also having a Dec 31 only year end sale for select items. Along with other cool puzzles and stuff, decks on sale are :
Tempo, DKNG Rainbow Wheels, Cardistry Con 2022, Harmony Collection on sale at $12
Modern times at $16
Cybernatic at $18.

I caved and bought two more mysteries. I was eyeing the Hitchcock or Fantastique decks and even though I didn't get them, at least I got two decks I don't already own: Messymod and Eames.

Mystery brick box by Art of Play. $155. This has a 12th deck in there that is apparently new and never before seen. You cannot choose the other 11 decks as they are still mystery pulls. This tells me both "let's milk more money from those who already bought mystery decks" and "whoever didn't buy mystery decks may be tempted to buy this now." They could have easily released this during the original mystery deck drop but chose not to.

At the regular price of $12/mystery deck, it's like buying a brick and then adding on $11 for the tin case - with the promise of no duplicates and an unseen deck. Doesn't seem like an awful deal to me :ugthink:

Don't forget coupon code: TAKE10. Brings this to under $140 but then there's shipping to worry about. $18 or free with $175 purchase. Hmm

By itself, this sounds great. How they chose to release it irks me. I'm becoming more and more weary of all the tactics used to try to make more sales. I get it...that's their job as a business; but as a consumer, I will air my frustrations.

This is similar to the kind of stuff Harv has been calling AoP out on.

"Here's this thing that we're going to hold back that's basically the same thing as what we had before. We'll dress it up as something new, throw in the bare minimum amount of differentiation, and try desperately not to draw attention to its sameness".
"[...] But someday you will be old enough to start reading fairy tales again."

Could be this year they didn't sell out or sell as well of the Mystery decks compared to previous years? So they've come up with another gimmick to get rid of the excess stock. It's either that or everyone has to unwrap each mystery deck and re-enter the deck into their inventory! :D

Art of Play Mystery Decks 2023

Unread post by manu »

Some information is starting to come out about the 2023 AoP Mystery decks. There are "nearly a dozen original designs featured in this years Mystery Deck collection."
