Still way better than Fontaine's movie and tv licensed decks.

Seems pretty biased imho. Objectively there is no difference if you slap a Spongebob artwork on the card or a WoW artwork on the card. Back design also no revelation here so these are objectively exactly on the same level as any fontaine tv series/movie collab. It's just the obviously more sophisticated concept art from Warcraft that sings more to most grown-ups and therefore skews the view.
A typical case of: a person I like makes something and I cheer and a person I dislike makes the same but I critisize it.

Nah, I don't like either of them. But I didn't care to elaborate at the time due to other things happening then.

Fontaine had nice tucks that captured the movies (Army of the Dead was the best and the backs was nice) and tv series well but the cards were a letdown; seeing the possibilities he could have done with the faces but didn't. They ended up looking like a typical licensed souvenir cheap quality deck wrapped in a nice tuck but at 3x the price, overall.

But WoW put more effort on the overall cards to make it more WoWish. Backs, aces , the pips and even taking the trouble to give the faces a beaten, faded look as well. Those little touches go along way. (Agree that the backs are very meh compared to Fontaines overall but they still tried to do something with it rather than standard bikes back.) Closer to the Japanese Bicycle Anime decks and at only 2x the price.

Zach's showing improvement, at least in that he's trying to do more with the designs to fit the theme of the deck. But he's still got ways to go. Going in the direction of the WoW decks on using the whole deck for the theme rather than just cut and paste. Granted, he's no graphic designer, but he can definitely afford to hire one who can at least push the Fontaine brand further design packaging wise to include all the cards. Not just the brickbox, tuck, backs and courts.

Hire someone to do a Fontaines non-standard courts like what the Virts did or even Ben of EPC with the Night series. That'll be a an easy and good step forward, designwise

Call me graphic industry biased but from my pov both decks take the exact amount of work to compile - from a technical pov. The weathered look is 2 minutes of work for a skilled graphic designer - 10 minutes if s/he has to look for a template. After that it is copy and paste of the artwork as well. I don't really get how someone can see a difference in work hours or effort here, lol.

For me, it's more about the thought that went into it. You're right in that it doesn't take that much time to do.

However, those little bits do make a difference in the overall presentation of the deck. It shows that more thought had gone into creating the overall packaging of the theme and design. It can be as simple as choosing Eggshell white instead of the std white color for the faces. Or in WoW's case having worn parchment color for the cards. Easily done but it makes a difference for me. (Yes, being on UC has really made me jaded and picky with maybe too high expectations. )

Fontaine's Army of Darkness and Spongebob decks stands out for me in that sense. Just needs to take that last step with the rest of the face cards. I'm a big AoD fan, loved the tuck and backs as it was a good step forward from the Halloween deck. But the faces were the biggest letdown for me that stopped me from getting it.

That's excatly the point I can't agree with. Where is the special brickbox if they put more effort into the overall design? These decks just feeds off the effort that has been put into the Warcraft products prior. I guess this is what skews the perspective.
