Hybrid Back Fortunes Printing Cash
A while back a Chinese company ran a kickstarter knocking off anyone if I remember correctly - spotted a preorder for their next knock off venture on a Chinese card site - f-ing with 50 or so Fontaine back designs - take a good look at them so you never accidentally buy one
The ridiculous post title is actually the name of the cards “Hybrid Back Fortunes Printing Cash” in case you thought I was having a stroke…
On a positive note, they are printed on paper - apparently a noteworthy thing

Re: Hybrid Back Fortunes Printing Cash
thanks for the heads up but no worries, wouldn't buy the 'originals' either. at least this deck probably took 1 x 50 minutes to cut and paste together. more time than the original decks.

Yeah, it's their parody of Fontaines. The previous one, Chinese Checkers was a parody of the A1WW checkerboards. Both projects are severely delayed due to C19 lockdown in Hong Kong in Jan.

UPDATE on the deck
https://www.instagram.com/p/Cb-VHQNvXtp ... =copy_link
Well, the one who creates the Anywhere deck - a parody deck to Anyone deck - TROLL DECKS, who suggests this deck, had decided to run away with the money from the pre-order money. The printer, HK Playing Cards, will continue on with the printing - expected to be finished by May.

Re: Hybrid Back Fortunes Printing Cash
Nice they are making good on it, but the trouble does seem fitting the project - it was a cash grab after all - now in the purest sense.
As for parody - “ an imitation of the style of a particular writer, artist, or genre with deliberate exaggeration for comic effect.”
I would say it was a low effort use of someone else’s IP, with very little work done in comic effect - which is a grey area in the courts but here seems quite pale.

Re: Hybrid Back Fortunes Printing Cash
in their defense, the original source was very low to no effort. i would argue they put in more effort changing it than creating the original.

Sure, couldn’t happen to a more fitting company, that is arguable, though I would say that them creating a brand out of fontaine was either a lot of hard work or one hell of a lucky break - either way, it is their IP and brand.

Troll decks ran away with it? So where does that leave their own Anywhere Chinese Checkerboard deck? I had thought Troll and HKPC were the same company.laitostarr777 wrote: ↑Thu Apr 07, 2022 5:24 am UPDATE on the deck

I did pre-order the hybrid fortunes so at least it looks like I'll get them eventually. But sad for the AWCC backers.

Hey, UC got quoted there in the update! Thanks for the notice
Still, if anyone knows more, are Troll deck actually linked with the Fortunes production and were the ones who ran or someone else screwed HKPC over?

Re: Hybrid Back Fortunes Printing Cash
There's more effort put into the name of this deck compared to making a fontaine deck. Might actually get 1 cause its like 50+ fontaine decks for the price of 1

Re: Hybrid Back Fortunes Printing Cash
Finally got my deck. I must say , as a Weird Al fan, I love a good parody. This deck is great as a Fontaines parody deck. The tuck is extremely colourful and they also have 2 fun details. The first is on the sides, saying that the deck is Made in Universe. The other one is on the bottom, where they say this is '1 of ####' and 'last edition'
The card backs are all arranged in the order of Fontaine's first deck to his most recent, up to the Fever Dreams. The Army of the dead and Halloween decks are the Jokers. Can't recall all the Fontaines release and in what sequence, but I believe almost all of them are there. HKPC does repeat 3 decks, the Chocolate, Babylon and the Denim Illusions with 2 different designs. There's also a very nice touch with the 2nd Chocolate back where it says F*** the resellers. If I recall correctly, that's referring to the incident where Zach rereleased the Chocolate deck a few months later with 100% of the profits going to the BLM incident.
Some of the face cards are altered to match the deck they are from. The Ace of Spades are nicely done. Much better than the usual Fontaines. Sadly none of the courts are changed to reflect the few custom courts that Zach did like Chinatown and RipnDip.
I've attached pics of my fave cards from this deck. I like how they mimic the Holo deck and the Illusion decks. I wasn't quite sure about the Fire and Christmas backs, until I realized that the Fire deck is parodying Army of the dead, and Christmas for Halloween. The Christmas one is very nice.
But my absolute favorite cards are the 2 misaligned cut ones. I love the statement on the back one! By including this and the F resellers Chocolate back, 2 of the more controversial incidents surrounding the Fontaines; shows the depth and detailed thought that HKPC put in designing this parody deck.
The release of the deck was quite delayed, but in the end, worth the wait. So if you love parody decks or something fun, I highly recommend getting this one.

Re: Hybrid Back Fortunes Printing Cash
Here's the official product page for this deck:
https://www.hkplayingcard.com/product-p ... nting-cash
Note how the tuck box actually says "hybird edition", not "hybrid edition". Either that's just a bad mistake, or it's deliberate, and all part of the parody.
I have the deck, but here are some more pictures which I found over on an ebay auction:
There's also a gilded version of the deck available, which they were handing out to anyone who bought a brick:
Over on Portfolio52 it says that this deck was printed by Hanson Chien. But is that actually the case? I can't see anything on the deck itself that says that.

Well, I am the one who input the data on Hybrid Fortunes deck on P52, and yes I can assure you that this deck is printed by Hanson Chien. HK Playing Cards said that themselves!EndersGame wrote: ↑Mon Jul 25, 2022 9:33 pm Over on Portfolio52 it says that this deck was printed by Hanson Chien. But is that actually the case? Re: Hybrid Back Fortunes Printing Cash
Thanks for the follow-up info. Hanson Chien doesn't have their own factory though, but uses other playing card manufacturers to get the job done, both in Taiwan and in China.laitostarr777 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 25, 2022 11:05 pmWell, I am the one who input the data on Hybrid Fortunes deck on P52, and yes I can assure you that this deck is printed by Hanson Chien. So they may have produced the deck, but they would have outsourced the actual printing to a manufacturer that other creators might also use.
