Now that I'll be moving into a new place in July, I'm thinking about getting a display case for my display-worthy collection.

I haven't been paying much attention to the General section for some time. I check in today and see the GOAT is still around these parts! For those decks that are deemed unworthy for your display, can we get another deck brutality video like when you packed that DotY donation a couple of years ago?theCapraAegagrus wrote: ↑Tue May 17, 2022 11:00 am Now that I'll be moving into a new place in July, I'm thinking about getting a display case for my display-worthy collection.

Yeah, I've pretty much stuck to my lane here. Simply put; The other communities that I frequent are more active in many subs (so I tend to go to those places more when work is slower). I still love interacting with you guys, and I know that posting exclusively here is limiting my audience, but I don't often have much to say about new decks and the like.
I have more than enough decks to make some more deck destruction videos. It's something that I would have to get to after the move. Maybe my best friend can take me to his father-in-law's home, where he has tons of land, and I can finally do the video of shooting through decks? I have 4 different calibers that I could showcase the differences of between decks. I also have 5.56 incendiary rounds that could make a shot or two much more interesting...

2022 is officially the worst year of my life. I may be back in the game, boys 'n' gals (meaning: I will probably be returning to the New Decks sub). I'm nearly-certain that I have a fractured heel. Going to Urgent Care this afternoon. Earliest in-network podiatrist that I could book is on June 3rd.

I am reminded of the time I tore my ACL. I could still walk, fortunately, but arranging to get medical attention for it (and, this was pre-Covid) was agonizing. And, each meeting with the appropriate specialist involved setting another appointment for another few days or week or two down the road with the next person in line who had to weigh in on what was the problem and how best to proceed. Ultimately, I had to have surgery to rebuild it (from my own hamstrings... the body is a weird, weird piece of equipment.) All this while I was brand new to my desperately-needed job, while we had a newborn in the house and two rambunctious little kids, and while my then-wife and I were going through a divorce and still living in the same house -- a house that was being illegally foreclosed upon by the bank. My life was a freakin' country song, except I didn't own a truck. Even at the time, I would pause for the laugh track that I knew had to be playing in the background of the sit-com that my life had become. But, as funny as it all was, I wasn't laughing, myself.
I'm not telling you all that to try to compare my past situation to your present one; your year sounds truly awful and I'm very sorry you have to go through all this all at the same smurfing time. Rather, I'm telling you all that to commiserate with you and show solidarity. You already know, intellectually, that you're going to get through this, that you will eventually make it through to the other side of this sh*t show... but that doesn't make it better right now while you're going through it. All I can say is that I hope you cope with it with whatever means you have for coping, and that we're here to keep you company while you do.
And, we will continue to irritate you with our differing opinions about comic book-based movies. Because, that's what friends do.
But, for whatever it's worth, there are a few pretty sweet new decks out there to get your hands on when you can.

Re: Last person to post wins. . . . .
Luckily/thankfully, my dad recommended a different podiatrist that was able to fit me in on Monday, so at least I'll get a first look/opinion sooner than 2 weeks out. I think the #1 thing that will suck is if I can't even help move most of my stuff from place-to-place. I'd feel pretty bad for my family and friends if they have to do all of the heavy lifting. Work better not give me any grief considering that we spent half of the past couple years working exclusively at home, and experienced little-to-no problems.rousselle wrote: ↑Thu May 19, 2022 1:08 pm Dude, that sucks. Re: Last person to post wins. . . . .
Update: It's clearly not a fracture, as I healed tremendously over the past 3 days. It ended up being a severe case of Achilles tendonitis as a result of me walking on it Wednesday, as opposed to staying off of it. In the future, I'm going to baby my injuries as to not make them worse...

I was hoping to be ready by tomorrow, but it looks like I produced a minor setback by applying some pressure yesterday. I'm a person who actually likes being in the office for a few days a week. We all need some socializing to stay sane.

Re: Last person to post wins. . . . .
Since Top Gun was my favorite movie as a kid I had to watch the sequel. Glad I went for doing it Tampa Bay's Football team style. Top Gun is okay for being an 80s movie but the new one is just hilariously predictable and as blatantly stupid and unrealistic as the original. I guess they did it on purpose to catch the 8os vibe?

Well, must see doesn't have to mean good. Maybe must see because other than updated camera techniques this film uses 80s like storytelling and (predictable af) plot twists.
And I'm saying that as a person who is quite capable of enjoying popcorn movie and putting my brain to just keep me alive mode aka not thinking about movies too much.

Re: Last person to post wins. . . . .
My boys and I watched the original Top Gun on our big screen as preparation before going to see the new one at the theaters (still haven't gone yet, but we will.)
I hadn't seen the original since it was out in theaters, and I gotta say... the cheese was strong in this one.
Yikes!
It was very well made; great production values. But, OH EM GEE, the plot was sooo by the numbers, and the pacing was sooo poorly managed. And yet... the actors were convincing, the action scenes were quite the spectacle and yet easy-to-follow, and it was truly a fantastic popcorn flick.
True story: I was in high school when the original was released, and I knew somebody at school who saw it and signed up to join the Navy a day or two later. Not making this up. I seem to recall reading at the time that the Navy had an unexpected jump in recruitment, and from then on, they were far more interested in working with movie companies... but only on the condition that the Navy was portrayed in a positive light.

Actually on thinking about it I think he said it was a must see because it was so bad it was good…. Or something to that effect - he may have even stopped me on saying “you mean its so bad its good?” He is a bit of a film buff and may have just wanted me to be able to discuss it with him after seeing it as a treatise on bad films…

Re: Last person to post wins. . . . .
Well, I don't think the first movie was a bad film. It was an exemplary demonstration of a very specific category: the '80s Jerry Bruckheimer Action Flick.
Have you read the title piece in Steve Martin's book, Pure Drivel? I highly recommend it. Funny as hell, and at the same time, a perfect deconstruction of drivel.
Top Gun (the original) isn't just '80s drivel... it's Pure Drivel.
Crap, I'm talking myself into being even more excited to see the sequel now.
(On a related note, my kids are asking when we're going to see the new Jurassic Park/World movie thingy, as well.)

On a side note: I rewatched The Batman and my verdict stands: Top 3 Batman movie alongside The Lego Batman movie and The Dark Knight.

My son reminded me that it was the remake of Independence Day that he thought was a treatise on all that is wrong with film - he actually liked the new Top Gun
Whipped out the telescope, as Independence Day reminded me how long its been since I checked the moon for aliens - Just a low magnification shot for tonight, will try for higher tomorrow…

That's how all military-film contracts work, if you want to borrow real equipment. People criticized Man of Steel for portraying the Army as "good guys". Hell, the Army barely even hesitated to shoot at Superman. Seems realistic, actually.rousselle wrote: ↑Mon Jun 06, 2022 1:10 pm True story: I was in high school when the original was released, and I knew somebody at school who saw it and signed up to join the Navy a day or two later. There's no way that The Batman is on the same level as any of the Nolan movies. I'd have to re-watch Batman '89 to compare, since I haven't seen that one in aeons, but it could be close to it.

For me it's the pacing, overall style and story. I agree with your take about the end and I would add that a smart person like Alfred should have smelled bomb asap, when seeing the envelope he got from the Riddler but apart from these two things I like what was offered and just prefer it over Batman Begins and The Dark Knight Rises.
I definitely have to watch the '89 Batman as well.
Did you watch the Lego Batman Movie?
