Re: "Pelted Primacy" Limited Edition Playing Cards now live
Yikes! I vaguely remember seeing this posted the first time around.
I love the gigantic watermarks on the images. I understand being worried about people stealing your work online, but this is being completely paranoid about it!!
thanks, Randy

Re: "Pelted Primacy" Limited Edition Playing Cards now live
I'm not really into furries but if he improves it I think I'd get a deck for collection. There's a lot of work to be done though.
He updated the tuck box
The price is quite high, an international backer can get The Name of the Wind for $16, this one is $22 for a single deck. Considering the quality, that is very worrying.
The goal is also high, some of the recently funded decks really surprised me so I won't say it's impossible for this to get funded. But it's not very attractive right now at all.
I messaged him (pasted below) to see if he'd change it up and he did change the tuck at least.
If there's anything I missed anyone want to point it out? Some people might like Furries. Should he do two way courts or is it okay to treat these sort of like Jokers? The pips are interesting so I didn't tell him to change them but I can see that most cardists won't even bat an eyelid at these.

There's a few things you might want to think about for this deck.
1. Make the index smaller and align them towards the side, makes it easier to play poker and for fanning purposes.
2. Make distinct illustrations for all the court cards instead of re-colouring the same ones.
3. Fix the layout of the pips on the face, don't make them look clumped up.
4. The new back is great, remove the pic of the prototype, the back on that one makes people go cheap deck! (that happened with your previous campaign). Certainly don't keep it as the first image for this project (He did this).
5. Fix the tuckbox, don't let the sides (the part that says The USPCC and Linen Finish) be shorter than the front and back.
6. On the tuck box, remove the standard playing card deck from the bottom. Umm, these aren't standard. Move the Pelted Primacy name lower to where the standard playing card deck words are right now.
7. Center the words Poker Size and change the font to the same one as on the sides.
8. About the Linen finish, consider Magic Finish on Bee Stock or Bicycle Stock.
Hope you consider these things, and after you've changed it up, visit some cardistry forums with the designs (should do this before releasing onto Kickstarter). If the project fails fix it and come back.

I commend you for your effort, Sid. I just don't have the drive to try to get someone to make what is basically a novelty deck into an actual collector's item (personal opinions, of course).
Re: "Pelted Primacy" Limited Edition Playing Cards now live
That's quite understandable, there's just too many decks on Kickstarter. Some are down right horrendous especially that Brite Neon deck, I'm also surprised by that 4 Horseman project making its goal. But hey anything can happen.MagikFingerz wrote:I commend you for your effort, Sid. For this one, I'm just trying to make the cards more practical, and the original tuck was bugging me.
If it doesn't succeed now, maybe when his illustration skills have matured he can change the courts. With the current illustrations and design this is of course a novelty deck.

The paw pips are cute and fit the theme well and the art is decent. Not my cup of tea personally, but at least it's not another zombie/steampunk/Cthulhu/etc. deck.

Re: "Pelted Primacy" Limited Edition Playing Cards now live
So there was a time about a year to 18 months ago where (one could argue the standards were higher and the quality was better) there were many successful KS decks. And much like the way the west was won, everyone with a pickaxe went to California to find gold. Now, there's all this crap on KS because people think it's a money-making opertunity. Slowly but surley, these garbage "projects" are failing... the playing card community has spoken/ is speaking. The many successful projects of yore were not successful "just cuz," they were successful because they were good decks.
Does anyone else pray that this is just a phase and all these eyesores will eventually go away once more and more aweful decks don't get funded? Or do you think these untalented leaches just trying to make a quick buck are here to stay?
Adobe should do background checks on people buying Photoshop. Maybe that will help eliminate some of this junk.

As long as people continue to have successful campaigns on Kickstarter, other, less talented people will try to emulate their success on Kickstarter.
Thanks!

I think Mike is right, but I do believe we're experiencing a peak right now. Hopefully it will settle soon.

I know the White Allure will be completely funded soon but besides that, The Voyager is another deck I want to see get funded because it looks better than most stuff already out. Not having other items available along with it is the reason for slow progress.

Yes, I'm hoping the Voyager deck gets funded. It's not that far from it to be honest. Just not enough people interested.Bikefanatic wrote:I know the White Allure will be completely funded soon but besides that, The Voyager is another deck I want to see get funded because it looks better than most stuff already out. Re: "Pelted Primacy" Limited Edition Playing Cards now live
Three updates on this project.
DESIGN UPDATE #1
Hey guys,
Thanks for checking out my project and backing it! As you can see, I've got quite a project going. I just want to let you guys know that I will be implementing some slight design changes with the cards. Nothing major or disruptive; but here are some things I plan to be working on in the next few weeks, as more decks are pledged for:
-Updates, as necessary, to the tuck box layout (finished)
-Different, more minimal border style to the cards.
-Smaller indexes and pips, aligned to the sides of the card rather than over the borders.
-At least 1 different illustration for the Court Cards (2 illustrations total per court card)
-Will be working on a second back design for backers to vote on.
Please check back frequently for more updates :3 Hopefully the project is a huge success ^^ Thanks for your pledges!!
2-way Court Cards
Hey everyone.
I have received notice from others through the grapevine that the designs I have are nice, but aren't standard for actual usable playing cards. With that note, please dont remove your pledge, as I will be implementing new 2-way court card designs in the next two weeks or so, for your consideration. Please bear with me in this transition, as I very much want to make a product people will want to buy. Also, as more orders come in, I start to see more international pledges coming in. I would like to consider lowering the shipping costs for international orders, but since some have already been claimed all I can do is set up a pledge for international buyers, and issue refunds at the end of the project equal to the difference in the already claimed rewards. Let me know what you guys think. Its all in your hands, erm... Paws.
Thanks guys.
BACKER REWARD UPDATE (PLEASE READ!) :
Hey guys,
As you may have noticed, there was a change in the backer rewards, with similar ones being made as well. I have marked the single deck and early bird specials as sold out and replaced them with the same rewards with smaller International shipping costs. This is due to the overshooting of the shipping prices on those items.
IF YOU HAVE REQUESTED A REWARD ALREADY AND YOU PAID $10 FOR INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING:
I have a small list of backers who ordered from outside of the US. For those who have already requested rewards with $10 as the shipping, then in the end of the project I will refund you the difference in shipping costs (the refund will occur soon after the funds are made available to myself). You will still receive the appropriate reward. Sorry for the inconvenience guys. But as I said, your shipping differences will be refunded accordingly, at project's completion. This of course only applies to those who ordered from outside the country.
Again, I am sorry. Thanks for reading.
Re: "Pelted Primacy" Limited Edition Playing Cards now live
Hi.
I am the guy running the Pelted Primacy Kickstarter project. I have recently read through some of the gripes about the deck design, and have been taking them to heart in hopes of garnering a stronger aesthetic to the deck design. I really didn't want to come off as a guy who saw $$ signs with a card deck design posted to Kickstarter, but I guess that's what a lot of people have been saying, here or there. I find it's near impossible to change someone's mind about such things on the internet, so I will just keep my chin up and continue working on the project. I have recently made updates to the project page, but lately they have gone mostly unread. Hopefully the following can at least be heard:
-I have reworked the overall card layout, including reducing the size on the pips and indices, as well as making at least an attempt to use the illustrations I had already made as 2-way designs and not 1-way (to make it seem less novelty-like)
-I have redesigned the tuck box from before it had gotten many pledges (which has already been addressed here)
-I have recently changed the reward system to block any further backing for the overshot shipping rewards, replacing them with the same number of remaining rewards with adjusted shipping costs for international backers (this has also been addressed)
-I updated the stretch goals to be a bit more "attractive" to possible backers, as opposed to just allowing for an additional reward or a vote.
-I added reward options to have people purchase a place for themselves or their furry-based characters in the deck as a court card design (which will be organized more as a 2-way design from the start)
I understand that, looking at what projects succeed or fail, there has been a surplus of deck designs that haven't exactly had either thought, heart, or aesthetic value put into them, and that some designers literally just wanted the money for themselves in the end. I have started work on this project in the beginning of my last semester at Keystone College, and at the time I thought I could handle producing a design that people would want. Looking back, that's not the case, nor was it ever. If this project doesn't become funded by its deadline (which is 99% likely) then I will take the designs back to the studio and try to make a more cohesive and usable layout for the deck.
Who knows? Maybe I should just stick to printing some of these decks without the USPCC quality and Bicycle© logo from a third-party printing service and just sell those decks to close friends and avoid Kickstarter altogether. Just a thought.

Re: "Pelted Primacy" Limited Edition Playing Cards now live
You need to add the new two way backs to the main page. I do not look at updates until I am already a backer or ready to back. Your problem will be getting the people who have written your project off to come back and look at it. You can try updating your main image to show that the cards have been redesigned. Good luck with your project.djkyota wrote:

10-4 over and out

I appreciate the feedback, and thanks for the suggestion on the main image. If I can get an official two-way court completed today (and I mean a completely new one and not one of the old ones forced into a two -way style) then I will surely add it to the main image.
