Inserting images into posts?
All:
I'm a newbie here, but have been using online forums since the 1990s.
Can anyone tell me why the following image tags are not loading images?
At least they are not loading when I look at the post. All I see are the red x's indicating that the image was not found or was not able to be loaded by my browser.
I have double-checked the URLs by copy/pasting them into my browser's address window, and they load that way just fine, but NOT withing the image tags.
Perhaps the site where the images are hosted (archive.org) does not allot "hotlinking"?
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

Could it be because the images I am trying to display are .gif files and yours is a .jpg file?

Re: Inserting images into posts?
...okay, now THAT one works.
Is it because it id a .jpg, or maybe because the site hosting it allows hotlinking?
Hmm.

Re: Inserting images into posts?
Ok I know what is going on
The link does not work because it is not the link to the pic itself. It seems it goes first to that archive site then it redirects to a second link which is the image link. I try that link and it does not work. It must be because of that link within a link thing

Hmm. what makes you think it redirects?
Thanks for trying to figure it out, Pete.

Re: Inserting images into posts?
I see no redirecting. click on the link, and do a right-click/Properties on the image trhat comes up. You will see the exact same URL as is in the IMG tags.
No redirecting.

Re: Inserting images into posts?
yes there is... click on the link you put intially
It will bring you here
http://wayback.archive.org/web/jsp/Inte ... Fheart.gif
Then after 5 seconds it brings you to this link which is your gif pic
http://web.archive.org/web/200303221544 ... /heart.gif
Problem is you cannot use this link for the pic as both links start with the wayback archive load

Re: Inserting images into posts?
That's odd.
When I click on it, it takes me immediately to the second URL you mention, and stays there.
Perhaps a diff in our browsers? I'm using IE7.

Re: Inserting images into posts?
Hello again RS
No I do no think it is the browser. It is definitively that your site has to load first through that first URL. Here I am using your gif file to try it on my own
See it works fine. The archive website is what is preventing your pics. I would save your pics on another free storage site maybe and try

I was looking into trying Shutterfly or Photobucket earlier today.
I'll set an account up and give it a try, thanks!

Re: Inserting images into posts?
Just to clarify, the site where the images are currently stored is not "my site", but is http://www.archive.org" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; (AKA "The Wayback Machine"), a site where web pages from millions of web sites from throughout the decades are archived.
I had a personal web site on AOL's "aol.member.com" web space, where I displayed images of a few cards from each of dozens of decks from my collection of playing cards, but AOL deleted all of the aol.member.com web sites back in October 2008. My personal backups of my playing card web site were lost at about that same time, due to a hard drive crash on my home computer. CD and/or DVD backups I had made of my site have been misplaced (we have moved twice since all of this happened and are now living in anotherf state), so the archive copies on The Wayback Machine are all that I have left of all of the work I put into building my playing card web site from 1996-2008.
Fortunately, I have been able to download many of the images from The Wayback Machine onto my personal computer, and hope to rebuild my old web site elsewhere.
Until I am able to do that, I need to store some of these images on one of the "image storage" sites, such as Photobucket or Shutterfly, so that I can share them here (and elsewhere.
Any recommendations about such "image storage" sites would be greatly appreciated.
