Disagree with everyone, I far prefer the left. Wonderful that it looks like everyone will get what they want, at least eventually.

2 completely different court card designs by JR for LOTR . Normally it's just a recolor of the backs, maybe the courts if you're lucky for a different deck.
Fans win either way regardless of which design we prefer. Only loser is our bank account if we like both or are completists!

Re: The Lord of the Rings - By Kings Wild Project
I think people are jumping the gun a bit. So far there's no information on exactly how the add on/stretch goals will work. You may have to buy the standard deck to get access to the artifact version. He also hasn't said which version of his other designs will be made available. It could be the hybrid version or a different version of the one posted above.

Re: The Lord of the Rings - By Kings Wild Project
While not to my exact liking but even the left version is anything but standard.
I doubt Jackson will hide the artifact deck behind a paywall, unless it's some fancy tuck swap with a gilded version like his Legacy or the book special editions he did with older releases.

Re: The Lord of the Rings - By Kings Wild Project
It's gonna be plain and simple. Both decks will be easily available and behind zero paywalls. Both editions will have Standard $12, Gilded $30, and Legacy $200 versions. I'm not trying to hide anything at all. The Standards will be the base, the Gilded will be the standards with Gilded cards and seal, SAME TUCK, and the Legacy will be the Gilded inside a black walnut or hickory case with the Silver coin.
The only caveat with the "Archaic" (right deck) edition, is that I still have to get it approved by the Tolkien estate and it will be released mid-project, hopefully. Nothing will be limited, Nothing will be a Kickstarter Exclusive, all I want to do is to pound Theory 11's LOTR deck into submission
The Fellowship Edition - (Left Deck, Full-color version)
Standard $12
Gilded $30
Legacy $200
Printed by the USPCC
No Foil
Tuck By Clove St.
The "Archaic" Edition - (Right Deck, Original design, with a gold foil background
Standard $12
Gilded $20
Legacy $200
Printed by the same factory that printed Mistborn (relax, I don't have to tell you the name of the factory, that would be the same as me telling my competitors trade secrets)
Gold Foil background.

Re: The Lord of the Rings - By Kings Wild Project
Hopefully there will be a pledge for 2 standard decks that will converge into 1 each if the other one gets approved? Minor nit pick, I just hate having to adjust my pledge halfway through a project. But I will be there, money-in-hand! Let's take down T11 together!!
(Full disclosure, I will most likely be picking up T11's version, too )

Might as well make my plea pre-campaign - any chance of bringing down the price of the Legacy edition a bit? Seems a bit steep - would sell plenty at half that price…

Well, guess I'm gonna spend $500 bucks on this campaign.
I've spent way more than I care to admit on playing cards, but I'll still buy just about anything that Lorenzo, Jackson, or Gio make.

Relax, as if the handling of the cards will give you a competitive advantage.JacksonRobinson wrote: ↑Thu Mar 31, 2022 7:55 am(relax, I don't have to tell you the name of the factory, that would be the same as me telling my competitors trade secrets)
Kind of a whack stance to ride the dick of a company (USPCC/Clove St. Press/....) if it stands for a certain standard/quality but if not then buhuu - trade secret.

In any industry, if you do the leg work yourself to find a supplier/manufacturer that has something that others don't you do either of two things:
1. Make them sign an exclusive - Like T11 did with Studio on Fire
2. Or you keep it to yourself.
Example: Do you think Lotrek would give me the name and number of his card printer?

Lol, relax. Of course I do; I got raised to name things by their name.
Thanks for explaining the obvious. I always forget that this printer produces cards with features that we've never seen before ... in a quality unrivaled ...
Customers that want to know about what they put their money on the table for are a real pain in the ass, eh?

wat does this new printer do that nobody else does? i m still confused why you cannot tell us the name. it’s just printing some cards. every card producer tells people who they use to print their cards. this is becoming bigger deal than it should be

Re: The Lord of the Rings - By Kings Wild Project
He can but he won't for the reasons he stated above. It's his choice.
To be fair, when people started to roam around and look for new printers a lot kept it non-mentioned. The blue DMC Elites come to mind. LPCC and EPCC don't name their printer. And I'm not sure but if I recall correctly the new printer Penguin uses is kept unnamed, too.
At the end of the day, I'm going to get the deck regardless of the printer since I like the art .

Re: The Lord of the Rings - By Kings Wild Project
LOL, man, that sounds awesome! I don't think I ever said those things but that sounds like a great manufacturer if they have that. Do you know the factory that Legends prints their cards in? Do you know the factory that EPCC prints theirs in? I never said they have some magical formula that they dip their cards in. I just said they do things that others can't. In my case specifically, the one thing is foil lamination with a registered CMYK design. This is something that USPCC can not do, and I don't work with Cardamundi for my own reasons. Foil lamination is done in many places. I have just found a company that does it to my satisfaction and actually is easy to communicate with and has been very accomodating.Harvonsgard wrote: ↑Thu Mar 31, 2022 12:49 pm Lol, relax. You're not strong with reading what I just wrote .
You do you, all's cool. Just the others handle it the same way is kind of a dumb excuse. Stick with the I'm not gonna name it because you don't have to.

Re: The Lord of the Rings - By Kings Wild Project
As for the printer issue - I’ve been around long enough to know in business if you get a competitive advantage you use it - a good printer at a good price may be all it takes, some speciality in that printing may seal the deal - in the end, the quality of the cards rides on Jackson, not the printer.
I can see the argument, I like knowing who prints a deck, I like knowing how its going to handle before I get it - but after checking out one of these decks one will know what to expect from the rest - and if they handle poorly I’m sure someone here will let JR know…
Last I saw, he has a return policy as well

Re: The Lord of the Rings - By Kings Wild Project
As someone who own the Robin Hood deck I don't really care who Jackson uses as long as it isn't EPCC. I don't normally expect great handling from an art deck but I'd still prefer them not to feel like a stack of bathroom tiles.

No matter what the final decision of the printer, I am fine as long as it is produced beautifully. Just please stay away from USPCC, I hate seeing beautiful decks got rekt by offset center
Would be cool to see another KWP deck done by Cartamundi

Glad he does. I still dislike the "linen" structure of Cartamundi cards and while not hating it, the soft feel is not something I'm looking forward to feel.
I'd take the off-center gamble over that all the time. Especially since Jackson replaced brutally offset decks in the past without hesitation. KWP customer service = A+

I assume this is for the standard edition which he'd already said was USPCC. It's the heavily foiled archaic deck that people were wondering about and which he refused to reveal.

Regardless, there's another thread here in the General Playing Cards section, "Rouge's Gallery" . This is where you can see the misprints. It's quite eye-opening. You can also see from there why Laito is quite upset about USPCC's acceptable margin of toleranceshunterino wrote: ↑Tue Apr 05, 2022 1:44 am I assume this is for the standard edition which he'd already said was USPCC. Re: The Lord of the Rings - By Kings Wild Project
While USPCC's lack of giving a shit about white borders is well known it's hardly a big deal (except for those who are unlucky enough to get lumbered with badly registered decks). They print ten gazillion cards a year so their 0.5% substandard decks is quite a big number, but most decks are fine. The way people always mention this is a little overly dramatic and if anyone will replace your deck for poor registration it's KWP. So I wouldn't get too worried.

It is ridiculous that USPCC can't get their junk together when it comes to registration, and also, people are overdramatic about it. If you get crappy registered deck email us, and will replace it. We have always done that.shunterino wrote: ↑Tue Apr 05, 2022 6:09 am While USPCC's lack of giving a shit about white borders is well known it's hardly a big deal (except for those who are unlucky enough to get lumbered with badly registered decks).
