All of this back and forth comes down to a matter of brand philosophy. Producing limited luxury items is a highly effective way of building an exclusive high end brand, which is precisely what TGW is doing. I totally understand the desire to be given the opportunity to buy any and all of the amazing things that he has in store for us. The thing is, the high end extras that some of you don’t want are a significant feature of the brand, rather than the optional accessories that you seem to view them as. You really are asking Omar to alter the entire vision and philosophy behind what he has already grown into a very successful high end brand. You want him to change the target market that he has successfully captured just because you want what he makes, and you think that it should be accessible to everyone even though that concept runs counter to the very essence of what he is creating. It’s kind of akin to going to Elon Musk and asking him why you have to pay for a big battery, heated seats, and a touch screen navigation system if you want to purchase the top of the line Tesla, when all you really want is a nice luxury car to get from here to there without all the bells and whistles. The answer is appropriately that there is a lower tier model designed just for you. The problem is that you still want what you want, even though what you are asking for is in direct contradiction of the very nature of the thing that you say you desire.

It might help to remember that we are talking about buying little slips of paper that no one needs. The countless number of little slips of paper are distinguished from each other in three major ways: design, quality, and branding. Asking for any one of those to change in order to fit what you see as your ideal is like asking someone you are dating to change who they are to fit your needs. Better to just move on to someone who is a better fit. Likewise, that crown jewel of a deck that comes with the Heir to the Throne tier might just not be for you. Not quite so sure why that would get anyone all worked up, beyond the fact that it’s kind of like the unobtainable crush you wish you could have, but you know comes with some baggage you can’t live with. 😆

well, it was a discussion that was asked for by the creator of the deck and the thread. just like you everyone was welcome to share their opinions and thoughts on the question asked. whether the deck or box or brand is for me or not is irrelevant to my ability to state whatever i like.

perhaps i am different than most, perhaps not, in any aspect of my consumer life, i do not buy the ''brand''. now a brand may have some items i like just as a no name manufacturer may, but i personally do not buy anything based on brand. in some cases quite the opposite. there are brands out there that no matter what they make i will not buy from them if their complete brand is built on hype and bullshit, they use shitty business practices or stand for something i am against, for examples.

i get it. to some, brand and image is a big deal to buy or to build. idgaf. make a product i like and make it available at a reasonable price and i will buy it.

CourtCurator, I totally get your point, but there really is nothing wrong/outrageous with telling a creator what you want when that creator specifically asked you to do so.

Omar has always been top shelf and loves the hobby. I appreciate his desire to please as many people as possible while still building his brand.

It’s all good. I am glad that you are speaking up, and I totally appreciate your viewpoint. In fact, I would be happy to see your suggestions in practice. I’m just pointing out that they do not seem to align with the TGW brand strategy, which is a significant portion of how these slips of paper differentiate themselves from each other.

I agree. Just seems like the general vibe was one of unwillingness to accept (and maybe even some anger towards) the nature of the brand strategy. I’m just trying to point out that it might be more important to the broader vision of the TGW brand than what is being recognized.

You won't like the answer. The only way I know is to post quote A. Then quote B; copy. Edit post with quote A - paste quote B. Then rinse repeat if you wanna do more.
STLBluesNut wrote: Tue Nov 09, 2021 9:42 ami don't think the gap would be very large though. while this method of selling may make more money, it feels a bit more shady to do it this way.
I wouldn't call it shady but yah it indeed kinda hacks or takes advantage of humans' standard behaviour. Which, we both 💯 agree on isn't necessarly good for us on the consumer end.
Same goes for buy X to get Y. That's why I e.g. didn't back and was pretty vocal about it, with the Tempest campaign, while not in the slightest being interested in the Prism deck. You can only influence things by a) voting with your wallet and b) being vocal about what you dislike and like. B) alone makes obviously no sense if you still back campaigns.
You want to reclaim your mind and get it out of the hands of the cultural engineers who want to turn you into a half-baked moron consuming all this trash that’s being manufactured out of the bones of a dying world.

Not to turn this into a tech support thread, but:

After clicking the quote button on one post, which takes you to the "Post a reply" page, you simply scroll down until you see the posts of the thread in reverse chronological order. There, you can click the same quote button for the posts you want to quote, and that will paste the quote directly into the textbox above, wherever you were typing last. You can even mark parts of those posts below before clicking the quote button, and that will only quote the highlighted text.

No copy-pasting or multi-tabbing necessary :)

Awesome! Sorry to divert a bit but I hope this feature stays [with the P52 planning to integrate/change the UC forum "style"].

Looking forward to the launch of this campaign!!!

The only "FLUFF" is a wood and metal box that will probably weigh 5-6 lbs when finished. It's finished with a piano black lacquer finish overtop of gold foil ornamental inlays. The top was 6 months in the making. I search far and wide for the perfect sculptor to make Kevin Cantrells design a reality and manufacturers to cast the sculpt and plate it and box makers to make the box. It will worthy to be the centerpiece of anyone's card collection. :D
Man this looks very cool. Definitely makes AoP's Standards collector's box look like a pine box compared to this! And thinking of this, I can now see why you've got 6 decks total for this set. Just wish you didn't follow so closely to that set. At least AoP spaced out their deck releases to spare our bank accounts.

Now looking April 15 to May 15th. But here’s a sneak peak at the Successor Sarcophagus.

The first prototype arrived in my office recently and although I’m going to be changing quite a few things (better color matching the side detailing with the lid, the thickness of the lid, the lacquer coating) I’m quite pleased with how things are going.

I hope the lid gets more matched to the sides. Lid has a sort of a cheap feel to it. Might be just the lighting though or I guess you won't be able to hide that it is plastic with a coating - which I understand since the alternative would be even for premium backers outragously expensive but jk.
Another thing is the name. If the mould can still be changed, I'd remove the "Successor" on the lid. Might be just me but luxury/premium comes with minimal branding in my realm. Having Successor on the box and the lid makes it feel pretentious and not luxurious for my taste. Having Successor in the box would be enough imo.
Overall if the figurine could be deeper embodded into the lid it would feel more premium as well.

Overall still something of the best I've seen in the card scene regardless. Tip to the hat. Great work Omar.

Plastic? Lol. No. It’s wood. And the box weights 5lbs. And no the mold cost more than a small car and will not be changed or altered. Nor would it be consistent would the artist’ vision. The figure is the maximum height that can used in the alloy cast method. In fact the figure is a separate piece fastened to the back plate. It was the only way to create a lid sculpt of that size and complexity without it costing a small house’s worth of money. The other thing worth noting is that Kevin Cantrell is anything but minimal. His style is extremely ornate and intricate. His branding is elegant but brash. This isn’t 1st playing cards. ;)

Apologies, I can see it's unclear with my wording but I was referring to the figurine, not the box itself. The gold sheen on the sides looks great but of the sheen top figurine somewhat cheap to me, that was what I meant.
As with minimal I mean amount not intricacy. Might be just me, but I feel like someone thinks I'm retarded, if he writes the name of something multiple times on a product (unless of course the multiplicity is part of the design itself aka LV monogram allover print or like you mentioned 1st playing card back design).

No worries. If I came off as defensive I’m so sorry! Reading it back I can see how it could be interpreted that way. I promise you that the lid is full metal. And I understand your note regarding the logotype. That’s Kevin’s specialty. Logotype design and branding is what he does. So I can’t blame him for showcasing the twelve different ways he figured out how to write successor :D Here are some pics of the metal sculpt in varying stages. So you can appreciate it better.
