Re: Bicycle "Venexiana" deck
I like these
Was wondering is the K of Spades hat too big? noticed his hat doesn't stick out of his box but the Queen of Heart does.
I'm not familiar with the theme, are the courts characters from something called Venexiana?

Re: Bicycle "Venexiana" deck
Following what sqmiller said about the courts, I think they should be consistently either inside the frame or outside, the latter probably looking better. Also I'm not really into the "dirty" background, I think it would look better if they just had that brownish white without the stain effects.
Just to be clear, "Venexiana" basically means "from Venice" right?
On the kickstarter/crowdfunding issue, I'm not sure if choosing anything else is better right now. Nor kickstarter itself, for that matter, but at least they seem to be taking some measures against the recent scams and whatnot. But I do believe that if a designer/producer has or can get enough support in the deck collecting community, that that would be enough to be able to avoid crowdfunding sites altogether (and preferable to their customers as well).

Re: Bicycle "Venexiana" deck
These are looking quite nice, much more refined than most of the Kickstarter decks these days! I approve of the Venetian theme (though you are a taking it more literal than my Aurum deck).
If I had to make a constructive comment, compared to the box and the court cards you are showing, the back is very one-dimensional and has the least visual interest of the elements you've shown so far. It is in no way bad, but to my eye lacks a little visual "oomph." The tuck uses the same tones but has a far richer look, primarily due to the better visual layering, cross hatching details and subtle shadowing.
All in all, nice work. I'll probably grab a couple.

Re: Bicycle "Venexiana" deck
Really very nicely done, right up there with the best of the KS decks. I agree with the rest on the the hats being inside/outside, definitely more attractive with it sticking out of the frame. Cant wait for these, coincidentally I am going venice in june as well

Hi Tom, yes "Venexiana" means "from Venice". I like this word, it's at the same time strange and familiar.
For the "dirty" background... I really like it. It gives the feel I want them to have. We cannot please everybody, can we?

About kickstarter, unfortunately I'm neither a US nor a UK citizen, so my alternatives are really limited. Besides JSC seems to has potential, as it has some unique features that no other platform has. We'll see.
Thanks!

Hmm, for playing games it's nice but I have to admit I'd like this deck more if it didn't have that dirty background. Won't stop me from getting it though.Lotrek wrote:For the "dirty" background... I really like it. It gives the feel I want them to have. We cannot please everybody, can we?![]()

Re: Bicycle "Venexiana" deck
I think that the dirty bg gives it the dated look that really goes with the theme of this deck, hence im in support of it, dont want to see it gone =)

Re: Bicycle "Venexiana" deck
It's not that I don't like the dirty background per se, but decks with that never look good in fans. I think just a faded off-white color would keep the vintage look without needing stains. Also: to make a dirty look work you have to make each card's background unique, which means a lot of extra work.
And I forgot the most important thing in my last post: THINNER BORDERS!

Re: Bicycle "Venexiana" deck
From what is posted here, I really like this deck. The artwork is very nice and I like the back as well, it's not too 'busy' and fits the theme nicely. Never heard of the Jump Start site, but I think I might check it out if that's where this will be.

Looks nice, it's on my watch list. I just wish more cards were already out to be purchased instead of reaching funding then taking months to receive them.

Re: Bicycle "Venexiana" deck
Sorry, but what measures are KS taking aside from taking their cut? A clause in the project creation agreement which does absolutely nothing? I don't see it and they have been pathetic in their responses to my emails about Core and Army Men.MagikFingerz wrote:On the kickstarter/crowdfunding issue, I'm not sure if choosing anything else is better right now. As for the borders, I had similar comments about that. Fortunately, I'm not married to thick borders, so I'll do that change.

@ sqmiller and volantangel:
Well, I see we are going to have a battle here about that dirt on the cards...
I'm glad that those against it, still like the deck!
If I get enough funding I'll print a clean version to make everyone happy

Hard to explain. I would take a picture if I could, but I won't be able to until I get home in a few weeks.Lotrek wrote:MagikFingerz wrote:It's not that I don't like the dirty background per se, but decks with that never look good in fans.

Good to hear about the borders

EDIT: You didn't comment on how you plan to do the backgrounds, unique or all the same?

I absolutely cannot wait to pay for these.
I personally like the dated/dirty look, but no matter what you do, these are a purchase for me.

Well, I think that nothing would be more fake than "all same" aged backgrounds!
But I'm planning to post here a version without the aged background, to check reactions.

Yes, I took it literally since now I'm really into completely custom courts.
The back will be revised, I think you're right.

I too think that the aging adds a little extra to the cards, plus i like the way you did it, not over-the-top like many of the distressed, vintage series.

I won't bother voting, if I need a clean deck for tricks I can just use a different deck.
