if they make a physical deck of that it looks cool.

edit: i kind of knew what NFTs were. digital collectibles. i just tried doing some more research on what, how to buy, buy with what, ETH as a currency, etc. i think my brain is melting. how much ETH people are ''spending'' on some of these NFT's which are basically kindergarden grade clipart. Being ''worth'' thousands of dollars? i guess if you could sell them to someone else and then convert your ETH back to dollars somehow? idk. its all foreign to me and hurts my brain.

I have been in the NFT game since September. Been lots of fun, lots of learning and the money has been good. However, compared to my friends who got in the NFT game early, say March April May timeframe, they have all quit their jobs and are doing NFTs full-time and have $2-$3 Million bankrolled from being in early. It absolutely blows my mind. I am scared for all of it crashing down and wrecking a lot of people.

It's a when not an if IMO, all the cryptocurrencies and NFTs are backed up by each other, I don't see how it can not collapse. None of it is real.

Not to mention that a HUGE part of why I like collecting cards as a hobby is the physical aspect

so the article i read on Forbes about them had 3 links to popular NFT sites. all of them were bought with ETH. ETH is about $4200 right now. some of the ugliest shit going for .5 ETH+ lol. anyway, you still have to sell the item to someone else for more than you bought it to make money because NFTs are basically worthless and only demand driven. it has no inherent value. not unlike physical collectibles in ways.

however, my question is, how do you get that back into dollars? sure, i could dump some money into it and buy and sell and possibly turn .5 ETH into 20 ETH but until you convert it back into dollars it is still worthless. i cant go to a car dealership or a grocery store and pay in ETH, or any other crypto currency for that matter.

its a double layer of not real. buying a virtual item with virtual currency all driven only by demand. if interest is lost in either, you are boned.

It is a time suck and will be a huge tax problem come the beginning of next year. The goal, similar to stocks, is to buy low and sell high. Plenty of awful art, but plenty of quality projects that offer utility / tokens in the space. Once in a while, yes, you just sell your ETH for the cash and then sit in cash. Confusing at first, but once you are set up and know the ropes, it is seamless. As with anything, you just gotta do your research before you buy into projects. Some people like the "art" they are buying and some buy just to flip.

i suppose as long as you can cash out if you are able to increase your ETH amount with buying and selling it is similar to investing in physical items. either way, there has to be someone else willing to buy what you bought for more than you paid. just like that one goober on ebay a while back always putting up these ''museum grade'' playing card singles for thousands and thousands of dollars. he can say they are worth whatever he wants and pretend he is rich but until someone buys them and he gets the cash he just has pieces of paper in his hand that couldn't buy a bottle of water.

That is true for what most would consider real, too. Nation state borders, money, laws, contracts - all just in existence because humans mutually agree on their existence.

I understand the mindset of someone wanting to make money in this scam but I don't get the mindset of someone wanting to pay money for a .gif, .jpeg, .wav or whatever, lol.

Anyhow, better work on that court design than the 2049 deck, imo. Back design is rubbish though.

Me neither tbh, but keep in mind we already pay for digital music, movies, video games etc, and in those cases we don't even own the actual files, only a license to use them. Relative to that, NFTs are actually more tangible. And I do get the mindset of wanting to own a unique IRL artwork.

Huh? I guess you mean legally own them?
Because I have physical memory medias (hard drives, sd cards) that have all of my music, movies, etc... on them.
I can multiply them, watch/listen them offline anytime I want - that kinda defines owning them for me.

What I meant btw. is more paying money for something that exists a myriad of times and only a digital fingerprint makes it unique. Of course artists should be payed for their art even if it exists only digital.
Anyhow, all power to people having fun with those. I guess my Neanderthal brain is simply not capable of understanding that concept, haha.

I'll stick to the old school way of "if you can't hold it in your hands, you don't own it."
"When I like something, I buy. No matter who did it, how many were printed or how many (re)colors exist.

When I don't like something, I pass. No matter who did it, how many were printed or how many (re)colors exist."

NFT’s are a symptom of irresponsibly loose government monetary policies. All the imaginary commodities (NFTs and Cryptos) will come crashing down at some point when the markets move away from risk assets (all of which are valued at absolutely insane levels right now). There is tons of money to be made, but it will all go poof very quickly when it all topples down. The real winners are the initial sellers cashing in on the frothing greed currently driving the market. Resellers/collectors are taking on all of the very significant risk. Buyer beware; you are buying a bridge to nowhere sold as a bridge to the future.

Not like classic currencies never crashed. Currency is always backed by faith; doesn't matter if it is called dollar or dogecoin. The only difference is that most folks trust one illusion more than the other.

That's probably one of the best 3d art/cyber courts I've seen on playing cards so far. Pity about the background, pips, backs, almost everything else shown, come to think of it. Why must the future/cyber stuff be so cluttered and busy? Clean lines and minimalism dies off in the future?

3.22 ETH is the equivalent of around US$12,500 - see the listing for the Joker. Of the other cards listed so far, the Ace of Spades is attracting the most interest.

If you want to learn more, I've written up a full story about this here:

Bicycle Goes Digital By Launching their NFT Collection of Playing Cards

Besides the NFT, buyers also get an acrylic case that holds a digital screen displaying the NFT, a printed counterpart of the actual playing card, along with a physical copy of the rest of the deck. It's quite a collectors piece.

Image

Next week they'll be selling physical decks in a limited print run of 8008 (individually numbered), as part of the "Main Collection". Buyers of these will get a uniquely numbered NFT corresponding to their deck.

I can see these decks being quite desirable for collectors, because they will come inside a special metal case that houses the actual deck, and they are physical items that represent a new era in playing cards.

Once the 8,008 physical copies of the "General Collection" get released, I can see those attracting some interest from collectors, and it may even get the `crypto kids' interested in playing cards.

I do think it was a good move to create physical playing cards corresponding to the NFTs.

it would have been a waste of the design if they hadnt even though the NFT sales profit will dwarf the sales of the physical cards. after all the money they wil make on the NFTs i hope they make the physical deck reasonable.

Well, it seems that the 8008 ‘General Collection’ NFTs will be released on Dec 22 at a price of 0.08ETH (or 299USD) and each purchased NFT will receive a corresponding numbered physical deck.

https://bicyclecards.com/nfts/

This is totally not the direction I thought this would be going and I am personally disappointed by USPCC in trying to jump on the NFT bandwagon and gouge the market like this (Market value for the NFTs at the current price is 2.4 million USD. :? ).

If I want to look at digital pictures of a deck, I will go online to see someone’s photos of the physical deck. HARD PASS

Re: USPCC NFT

I think there are definitely two different audiences they are trying to appeal to here:

1. The Unique Collection will appeal primarily to those already involved with crypto and in the NFT space (they'll especially want the NFT - the deck/display is just a bonus), and they'll be prepared to pay $$$ for these. And it may get them interested in physical playing cards.
2. The General Collection will appeal primarily to existing playing card enthusiasts (they'll especially want the deck - the NFT is just a bonus). And it may get them interested in NFTs. The only drawback here is that the price may be well above what they should be aiming for.

I think it's clever and well-thought out to appeal to two different markets. I'm just not sure they got the pricing right. I guess time will tell, once the General Collection drops, if they get snapped up right away, that will prove that they got it right; but if they don't sell, that will indicate they should have put them in a lower price bracket.
