Re: Kings Wild Project - Official Thread
2022 subs paid for, I'm a little confused tho. I've subbed for No. 13 Club and Vintage Reimagined. Does the immediate charge mean that I'm covered until March? Also, just out of curiosity, what's the shipping price on a single deck?

Re: Kings Wild Project - Official Thread
Yes, you have paid up front for the months of January and February. You won't be charged again until March.
I don't know about internationally, but 1 deck shipping in the US is $6.50.

I've spent way more than I care to admit on playing cards, but I'll still buy just about anything that Lorenzo, Jackson, or Gio make.

Re: Kings Wild Project - Official Thread
If I remember correctly, like a year ago, before I started using delayed shipping, shipping for one deck was around 15$ and for 2-7 decks it was around 25$. Yesterday I resubscribed for no13 club and it was 26$ for the three decks.

I'm a little surprised these leftovers haven't sold out yet.

I'd say that a lot of especially seasoned collectors have kind of a KWP fatigue.

Re: Kings Wild Project - Official Thread
As a new collector, I can honestly say that I haven't been impressed enough by the designs of the Kings Wild decks to pull the trigger and purchase any. I'm not sure if I just haven't seen the right decks yet, or if they're not marketed as heavily, but would say that there is a genuine benefit to having KWP decks in a collection? Are they still high quality or luxury-oriented playing cards? Honest ignorance here .. not trying to be an ass.Harvonsgard wrote: ↑Sat Dec 04, 2021 12:06 pm I'd say that a lot of especially seasoned collectors have kind of a KWP fatigue.

Re: Kings Wild Project - Official Thread
In my opinion, there are a number of really good decks designed by Kings Wild. Typically, the top liked designs are easily available, so you just need to go through most that show up and see if you find some you like and order them directly. In the US there is free shipping over a certain amount, so I would suggest holding back until you can order at or above that amount. The original Currency (Federal 52) related decks Jackson did definitely put his talent to everyone's attention early. A few years ago he was going through a bit of a slump, and then came out with Maduro and Tigers, which showed some real creative magic design and packagng. Those are definitely worth checking out. He just produced what I think is his best deck this year, Alice in Wonderland. You definitely should check it out. What is nice about Jackson is his sheer range of artistic talent. I can't think of another playing card artist that has shown anything near the range Jackson has, which is kind of the point of his subscription club (now No. 13 Club) (to just experiment with designs constantly).
Is there a genuine benefit to having KWP in a collection? I don't think so. If you don't like something, can't afford it or don't want it at a given price; then don't buy it/them. A collection should reflect your individual taste, interests, and budget.

Thanks for this input! Definitely helps put KWP and Jackson in perspective. I need to look a little more closely at their offerings of the past and present.Bradius wrote: ↑Sat Dec 04, 2021 2:38 pm In my opinion, there are a number of really good decks designed by Kings Wild. There is a benefit, I'd say: you'll have some beautiful decks then, haha. I'm a % with Bradius, if it's not for you then move on. But yah, if you go through the sheer amount of decks he has put out I'd say you'll find some gems.

Re: Kings Wild Project - Official Thread
Yeah, I think I was a little out-of-place speaking too fast about KWP -- I went to the website and checked out every deck they showcase there and found many decks to which I was immediately drawn -- pardon the poor pun. A lot of the decks that I would have classified as a "no-go" for my collection are actually strong concepts and designs -- they just don't meet my personal tastes, but I can definitely see where they would fit a niche in the collector world. I'm a fan of neat and clean design -- almost minimalistic. Many of the designs are gorgeous in their depth and style of illustration, but involve a level of detail that pushes past my personal limits.Harvonsgard wrote: ↑Sun Dec 05, 2021 12:31 am There is a benefit, I'd say: you'll have some beautiful decks then, haha. One of the things that I think is unique to some of KWPs' designs (might be in other design houses, but I haven't seen it as much), is the design/printing of the "aged background" or canvas of the card. I'm used to trying to keep my decks clean and pristine -- a crisp, white background is my preference -- but in decks like "Postage Paid", the aged parchment look is so integral, and while it was an initial turn off, upon reflection, I actually love the look and concept. It makes total sense for the theme of the deck. With the ancient wood -cut design of "Beowulf", Jackson did an amazing job of recreating an era and presenting it in a fashion that is totally consistent with the theme -- it's just so different from anything that I've seen before that I think it made me uncomfortable in a "how and where do I even display a deck so different from the rest" kind of mindset.
Which has brought me an "Ah-ha" moment about my playing card collecting ... very similar to how I view so many other aspects of life today -- It's easy to celebrate our similarities with those who share our passions and tastes, it's every bit as important to celebrate our differences in a way that we are educated, informed, comforted, and encouraged. I know that may be a little too deep and cheese-filled for some on an early Sunday morning, but I'm actually feeling guilty for my earlier critique of KWP without really knowing the depths and mastery behind the artwork presented. I judged and blabbed, when I should have taken the opportunity to really dive into some research and explore those areas that make me the most intrigued and uncomfortable. Sorry about that, to any who I may have offended with my casual flippancy. Again, I wasn't trying to be an ass, per se ... unfortunately, I was just talking out of mine. lol
I will definitely be investing in a number of KWP decks -- "Postage Paid" will be one of the first -- and I look forward to their continued creativity!

Happyakrz, everybody's aesthetics is a bit different. Again go with what you like.
A bit of backstory on Postage Paid. Jackson happened to be visiting a card collector that had a complete deck of cards that all were mailed and had addresses and cancelled (mailed and cancel marked over the stamps by the post office). Jackson got inspiration from that deck to make this design. Many of the addresses are of significance to Jackson and several subscribers.

Re: Kings Wild Project - Official Thread
Table player sets were the best 12 days of Christmas. I'm tired of gilding and all I see now is gilding. I was looking forward to the 2021 KWP Christmas ornament but unfortunately looks like 2020 ornament were sitting idle and needed to be cleared out. Bit bummed that this year there is no free shipping for the month of December. IIRC, last year, whole month of December had free shipping irrespective of the amount you spent. However, I do understanding the current situation with shipping all round the world.

I have been buying too much anyway. Time to let some others pick up some rare King's Wild stuff. Yes, the flag gilding is interesting, but those gild edges would be a mess if they get out of order. Not that I would likely mess with them much. i just feel that designing them so they can't be out of order is just turning them into poodles. The one thing about King's Wild is there is something for everyone.

If you can't sell it - gilt it.
Re: Kings Wild Project - Official Thread
Does anyone know the reason why KWP is getting rid of delayed shipping for their subscriptions? Due to this international buyers are getting screwed pretty hard on the shipping front (ie: $14 shipping for 1 deck to Canada). I tried searching around but I didn't find much, of maybe I missed an update or something.
