VARIUS Playing Cards by Montenzi (KS)

Unread post by montenzi »

------------------

Hi UC!

Yes, I have seen two more topics about this deck. :D If possible, please merge with this one (posts with comments, without images) as I'd like to control the first post (edit, update etc.)

Moderator note: I have locked the previous threads on this topic after merging them. You can find previous discussion on this topic here: viewtopic.php?f=8&t=19151

Working title: VARIUS
Printed: Cartamundi, cold foil on the back. Most likely, cold foil on both sides of the cards.
The number of decks: Three. All boxes and back designs are different
Courts: The same on all three decks. It will help to reduce the price by maybe $5.
KS: This Kickstarter is for borderless backs only. But I am going to produce more decks with the same (or updated) courts later. There will be another project for decks with borders.
KS: November (maybe this week)

I will add more images soon. Everything is work in progress

The problem with merging topics is that it's the oldest post that is always the first post. I'm going to re-merge this whole thread with another thread, and then figure out a way forward. I think I'll likely split the master thread into two threads, lock the older one, and then Montenzi can have the "first" post of the new, unlocked thread.

Edit: done!

The red one looks the nicest of the three.

That court is so sweet. I liked how there was the tiniest hint of lime green in the leaves of the flower she is holding. I am a sucker for your multi-colored floor to ceiling both-sided use of cold foil. Anyway, nice job.

This WILL be my first Montenzi deck. Very nice courts and love the full bleed. I'm in.

I'm not seeing any hint of lime green in that flower. I moved the pic from my laptop screen to my monitor. Still don't see it. Sure it's not your screen settings? Or is it mine? :? :D

I uploaded another image. There is green on flowers. It's hard to see as my 3D images are very close to what you'll see on the cards. Also, the colors on foil are not always visible in some lighting conditions.

I see green as well. The leaves, the center of the bloom and the outer four thingies.

Cool courts indeed. I know that Montenzi fans and tuckists will brutally disagree with me here, but it feels kinda lackluster and boring to me, to have a tuck almost only featuring the back design allover.
Much love for borderless backs as well from my side. These patterns work dope as borderless.

To make it clear, courts are the same on all three decks. QoH (WIP)+teal deck:

Not always but it worked perfectly for my last decks. I will produce different style tucks later, but please don't expect gold foil + black paper + embossing. It's so boring! :D BTW, the name is on the front of the box - huge progress

In the new back design, I can see spades, hearts and diamonds, but I can't see clubs. 3 out of 4?

:D It was not my intention to represent all suits, but you can find clubs in symmetry.

The old red

The new red

The single shade of red and the design of the new back looks like it does not match the other two. Why the change?

I have to agree with brownsl. I am more in favor of the first red version. I get the symmetry perspective, but that was a bit more of a stretch for my feeble brain.

3+ here. The new red looks like it doesn't belong.

I was very confident in Purple and Teal backs but not so in Red. I don't like the Red color scheme, and I cannot change it for the better one. Maybe there are four colors instead of three for teal/purple. I don't know. Also, I wouldn't say I like the fact that the flower pattern is too obvious. Why one color? It's simple - it is almost impossible to add more than one color to such designs (I tried). All decks will be available individually (not in bundles). I am more than happy to launch a campaign with two decks only, but I want to have that simple red in my collection  I may still tweak this back

p.s. I printed prototypes in foil (at home), and I like what I see.

And, if it became possible to get my hands on any of the prototypes... I'd love that, too!

I wouldn't get too attached to any renderings here. I'm certain by the time this deck goes into production, the designs will change several more times. Montenzi is like a mad scientist!

:ugthink:  :ugthink: LOL! True! I already have a version with clubs in the design. It's a process... the final version might be different even if I "confirm" this one. I posted this design to get feedback. But I know for sure that both teal and purple will not be updated! BTW, my all-time favorite back design is No.7 Classic, then two designs from this project, then Tiki V3 Ultra, then Tiki v3 MINI, White, and Retro, then all other No.7

Hi UC,

It's a quick follow up.

1. I am back to my "design" hobby.
2. I'll launch a new Kickstarter anytime soon (next week? )
3. It will be a two decks campaign without the red one. I may still print a 3rd LTD deck without foil with a completely different back design and updated courts.
4. Printed by Cartamundi (foil).
5. I'll start posting art in my Instagram tomorrow.
6. Courts/backs/boxes are ready but AoS/Jokers WIP.
7. I remember about HT prints and have some ideas on how to compensate for delays.

p.s. As usual, I already know that I'll tweak this KoD

Awesome to hear your new deck is ready to launch! You've been a major pioneer in using Carta's coldfoil and creating designs which enhance the foil. Can't wait to see what you're doing with this deck.
