Re: P52 Debut Deck 'Odd Fellows' by Stockholm 17
Now all of the Sir Octo decks will have red gilding. The coasters look cool but if there were coins made to look like them then I probably would have pledged.

Re: P52 Debut Deck 'Odd Fellows' by Stockholm 17
Best of all, Sir Octo foil edging is FREE! Now that's what I call a stretch goal. Not more $ to throw on recolored/foil edged variants of the same deck design. All decks are completely different with the mini deck being cheaper than the original.
Then again we are talking about P52 /UC deck. These are done by designers who are collectors for collectors who appreciate design above all, not jumping on the shiney bling. Just hoping more designers actually see this KS project and learn from this. Not shake their head and say, what a missed opportunity for more $.

Re: P52 Debut Deck 'Odd Fellows' by Stockholm 17
I'll admit I don't know what the norm on cost is for gilded decks (except the knowledge I have on the cost of gilded decks from KWP) having said that just the Sir Octo deck with US shipping is $30 and I feel it's apt to have gilding for that price for a KS exclusive deck. Of course later at retail the value would go higher. Also I'm sure they (S17 and P52) had planned it out to have gilding for this deck. I did think $30 shipped just for cold foil decks was slightly on the higher end. Of course, people with trifecta, EB pledges, etc. get a good deal with the bundled pricing of Sir Octo deck + gilding thrown in there for "free".

One way to have an idea of the cost of gilding is to note that Lorenzo charged $8 to gild a deck for Eye of the Ocean. To me it says that those who are charging a $20+ markup for gilding are certainly taking advantage.

I don't know what the cost is either, but Jackson said recently that gilding is by far the most expensive aspect of his card production.GandalfTheWhite wrote: ↑Thu Nov 04, 2021 11:02 pm I'll admit I don't know what the norm on cost is for gilded decks (except the knowledge I have on the cost of gilded decks from KWP)
I've spent way more than I care to admit on playing cards, but I'll still buy just about anything that Lorenzo, Jackson, or Gio make.

Re: P52 Debut Deck 'Odd Fellows' by Stockholm 17
A gilded deck at this price range (especially as part of a bundle) is a really nice deal. However, it would be a waste of gilding if it wasn't a nice deck already, which it is.
Jackson has said gilding is a huge expense for him. Not just the cost of gilding, but the cost of shipping the decks back and forth. Jackson is really hoping to buy his own gilding machine before too long. I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't get a gilding machine before the end of next year.
Alex with Jocu has gotten so frustrated with gilding that he is planning to give up gilding after his most recent experiences with the service. For him, besides the huge time issue, he has had numerous decks wasted due to problems gilding some of the decks. Again, it has been such a huge problem, he just doesn't see value in it going forward.
Personally, i thing gilding is way over-used these days. I am trying to resist the urge to get everything and be more tactical. However, when a sweet deck comes along at a great price, I get a bit excited...

Re: P52 Debut Deck 'Odd Fellows' by Stockholm 17
I'm a sucker for gilding especially when it's an unconventional color like orange or purple or green gilding. But I do agree it's been way overused, especially with these new gilding patterns like fractal gilding and such. I was also hoping the odd fellows gilded deck would have an odd color gilding (like purple or teal) instead of red, but it is a nice upgrade especially when we don't have to pay extra to get it.

i cannot agree more with most of what has been said above. this campaign and these 2 gentleman have been classy from the start. obviously they have been, and always have been, focused on delivering a great design for the collecting community at a fair price. $177k on the campaign is nothing to scoff at but they definitely could have milked more out of it. instead they went after value instead of the bottom line. we are lucky to still have some creators like that in the community.

As for gilding the production cost are $1 or $2/deck which at a $5-7 deck (print, production) is indeed the biggest chunk. But of course everybody was milking it to the extreme since collectors love to go instead of .

Well I was right! El Sapo Cubano 888 is the last odd deck.Bikefanatic wrote: ↑Sat Oct 30, 2021 8:27 amI agree. It's possible for a normal size deck because of the shadow shape of the stretch goals.
The reasoning behind the soon to be release seems fair. I don't know if I'll jump to get it.

I dropped my Oddest pledge. Since I am not that interested in the non-deck items, I was able to get a second odd box and 2 more decks of each and reduce my cost by about $40.

Re: P52 Debut Deck 'Odd Fellows' by Stockholm 17
I am not sure the cost of the El Sapo Cubano deck, but in typical squirrel hunter fashion, I decided to bag another Oddest reward (probably snapped up brownsl's pledge ). I really like this lighthearted design by Lorenzo. i also think they packed a lot of value in the overall rewards, not just the top tier. i can understand the reluctance to get the all in tier, especially if you are not into unut sheets. Honestly, I am not into uncut sheets myself, but i do like the other stuff, which still packs a bit of value into that tier even without the uncut sheet. I am also glad that many backers that want an El Sapo Cubano deck have a decent shot at getting it if they are fast.
There are currently 1,567 backers for a total of $185,209 at the time of writing this. The highest funded United Cardists deck was No. 7 by Montenzi with $41,000 in funding and 559 backers, which was another fabulous campaign.

Re: P52 Debut Deck 'Odd Fellows' by Stockholm 17
deck looks great but i will echo the sentiment i have shared other places, maybe even earlier in this thread. i am really really worn out on mid campaign deck releases. the campaign started at a great deal of $21 early bird for 2 decks. then there is a 3rd deck added. kind of irritating but not too big of a deal. then adding in mini deck. well, your pledge is over double what it was now, but do you want to triple your pledge? here is another deck.
the whole campaign they have talked about wanting to make sure there was enough for everyone so they didn't limit or time the number of oddest fellow. didn't limit the sir octo deck or any of the other items. now they are releasing this deck with a production of 888 for almost 1600 backers. so back to having to set a calendar and timer reminder to make sure you get one. with the recent add on trouble KS has been having, this could go very badly for a lot of people.
just tired of mid campaign decks and having to adjust the amount i thought i was spending initially. show us all the deck releases upfront even if they are a locked stretch goal please. we are buying a product. we dont need the campaign to be some kind of experience or event. show us what there is to pledge for and let us pledge. your designs speak for themselves there is no need for all of this added fanfare.

I'm with STLBN on this. In most campaigns I can happily skip these limited releases because they are basically fancy recolors, but in typically brilliant Lorenzo fashion, he has a funky and beautiful new design. I'll still probably skip due to price and gilding.

I really agree with this one right here. The campaign details, like this one, tells the story if there is one. The best support to an artist/designer is to buy.STLBluesNut wrote: ↑Mon Nov 08, 2021 9:31 am we are buying a product. we dont need the campaign to be some kind of experience or event. show us what there is to pledge for and let us pledge. your designs speak for themselves there is no need for all of this added fanfare.
Like someone said before using the Ronco Showtime Oven slogan, "Set it and forget it" as of pledging for what you want and that's it.

more sales is always the goal of selling something. i completely understand that. however, i would rather decide that upfront. knowing i am pledging for 5 decks rather than pledging for 2 and then end up at 5 at the end. it feels more like the old bait and switch to me.Harvonsgard wrote: ↑Tue Nov 09, 2021 1:18 am That's the goal after all. I’m worried it will go down like 10hun or ink beast. Overloaded server. Pissed off people and a creator who isn’t to blame because Kickstarter refuses to fix their website for spikes.

I guess this is kinda popular.

yeah, phone included as well as computer. point is/was not everyone can be available at the time a time/quantity limited item is available so they get screwed because of this desire on creators and buyers parts to have these limited items. so you have someone who is supporting the campaign left out in the cold. but hey, the people who are lucky enough get theirs and the creator gets their money so its all good right?
