This back looks like a distressed version of an old Ellusionist deck, but I don't recall off the top of my head which one.

Wait. Yes, I do. Sultan Republic. This is a variation on the Sultan deck. blank out the elements that appear in the middle of the circles, and you have the basic outlines of this back.

It's almost as if Edo's work is... derivative.

Remove the elements inside the circles, enlarge the elements between the curve at the top, the curve at the bottom, and the vertical lines that connect them, and you have a very close match.

Step 1: remove the elements from inside the circles:

Step 2: enlarge the elements between the curve at the top, the curve at the bottom, and the vertical lines that connect them:

I did this in five minutes using "Paint" which came with my computer. Obviously, I am not an artist, and yet, I'm halfway there from converting the Sultan Republic back into the Boskarta back.

Now you're a bit... human Allan aka searching for patterns when there are none. How many decks are out there that have two circles as a back design? I for example thought about Verum Videre when I saw Steve's post.
It's a camera viewed from the front - how do you wanna do that without circles, lol.
98.2% of artists work (aware or not) with referents and references. That's what they do. Edo's style is derivative. Jackson's style is derivative, ... πŸ€·πŸΏβ€β™€οΈ

Is Boskarta a camera? Well, then. Ellusionist stole their design from Boskarta!

It's not just the circles; as you say, those are ubiquitous. It's the curves at the top and bottom with the vertical lines that join them that triggered me, more, I think. However, you're clearly right. How many different ways can you place two circles vertically? I didn't recognize the camera motif until you pointed it out to me. D'oh!

Edo's designs are still derivative, but I guess I just assumed the wrong source this time. :)

Almost every artist is derivative. That was kinda my point.
Daniel Schneider takes USPCC courts, cleans them up - get's loled.
Jackson takes less know (especially to younger collectors) antique courts, cleans them up - get's wowed.
Federal52 is derivative πŸ€·πŸΏβ€β™€οΈ. I don't quite get the point.

Art is art, imo. I personally only care if it looks good to me and/or if it provoces interesting thoughts/reactions for me.

to be fair, daniel schneider got most of his shit because the way those courts were so hyped up. they were everywhere on social media as the greatest new courts that were years in the making and you couldn't even tell a difference unless you zoomed in to near microscopic levels. like he had done the greatest thing in playing card history by spending years making lines straighter. that is why he got ridiculed, at least by me. and for being a DM cronie.

Texture of the tuck looks nice. I like the back design a lot. Not enough to chime me in though.

Definitely the tuckbox can be subjected to sensual pr0n by our fingers x3 feeling that texture on your hands. And the cards printed by Legends, thats definitely a plus!

The back design is in shape of a vintage camera: I don’t see there’s an argument that the artist is imitating from Sultan Republic - logically, how would he imitate from the said deck while he never even thought or seen the deck in the first place?

Pretty nice! The only downside is the seals don't stick well to the tuck - if you consider that a downside
