Hanami and Sensu 2nd Editions

Unread post by DoubleOOJ »

Hello everyone! We keep getting asked if we are going to do a reprint of our Hanami and Sensu decks.

We are considering releasing 2nd editions.

In order to maintain the status of the 1st editions for our original supporters and collectors, we will not be reprinting the 1st editions. However, we want to allow those who missed the first printing to enjoy our decks! So, we made some changes to the original designs to create a 2nd edition.

This is our first time creating a second edition, so we would love to hear what you think!

When can you expect to see the new Hanami and Sensu?
We will move forward with printing them soon. They are essentially all ready to go, but we wanted to share them here first for feedback. (^_^)

What has changed?
Here are some of the new features of the Hanami 2nd editions:
  • Silver Foil (original had gold)
  • Red & Black indices on Fusion faces (original had black-only)
  • Narrower borders on Fusion faces and backs
  • New tuck style
  • Modified tuck designs and gradients.
  • Card backs (new color and tweaked art)
  • Removed the inner black border on Fusion faces
  • Printed by EPCC on Classic Finish (originals were LPCC Emerald)

Here are some of the new features of the Sensu 2nd editions:
  • Narrower borders on faces and backs
  • Modified tuck designs
  • New tuck style
  • Border on faces now the same when rotated
  • Card backs (new color)
  • Uncoated tuck
  • Slight color tweaks
  • Printed by EPCC on Classic Finish (originals were LPCC Classic)

We also had a question about naming. Do we simply call it a second edition? Or give it a name? For ex. Hanami Hanafuda Silver Edition. Any ideas for Sensu??

We’d love to hear what you think about the new editions of Hanami and Sensu.

Thank you for taking the time to read our post! (^_^)
We look forward to reading your feedback!

I would call it something like you suggested (Silver edition). 2nd edition to me is more of a pure reprint with incredibly minor tweaks.

Thanks for the input! That’s what we were thinking too, but we weren’t sure where the line is drawn and wanted to see what the community here had to say.

I'm fine either way with naming conventions. Nothing comes to mind for Sensu, but I'll noodle on it. I will definitely be getting the updated Hanami cards, and will probably get the Sensu just to be a completist.
"I have no response to that."

Happy to hear that wingedpotato. We really appreciate your continued support! (^_^)

Currently, we are thinking something like Hanami Silver Edition and Sensu Classic Edition.

I like the silver editions. Personally I would put somewhere on the tuck V2 or something in the manufacturer copy to show that it's a later version so it's not passed off as something else in the Secondary market down the road.

Ageed. We marked the bottoms of the tucks with a “-2” on the sku and “Second Edition”.
And of course we’d change it to Silver or Classic or whatever we decide on.

Here’s a mockup of the bottom of the Sensu tuck:

The decks are now live on Kickstarter - for 2 weeks only! We’d love it if you’d stop by and take a look at the Kickstarter.

To get the decks out sooner, we already invested the funds to start the printing process. In fact, they are at the manufacturer as we write. (^_^) We decided to run a short 2 week Kickstarter to offer our fans and supporters the decks at our discounted KS prices. We also set the KS goal low - in fact, it already funded. (~_^)

If you want the decks at the discounted Kickstarter price, you will need to pledge during the campaign. If you miss the Kickstarter, the decks will become available on our website at full retail after the campaign.

Note: If you are shipping to the EU or UK, we had to get a bit creative so that we could properly collect and remit the required VAT/GST as required by the new laws. We go over it in detail in the project.

Thank you, as always, for your feedback and support! We really appreciate the community here. Have a great day! (^_^)
