Re: Culturae Animalis
Jack's transparency was really great to witness during the campaign. He surprised us by adding in the silver "error" deck (nicest error deck I've ever seen) at no extra cost to the backers. He was completely open and engaging through the whole process and he is one of my favorite designers already due to his professionalism and his quirky, whimsical, unmistakable art style. Kudos to Jack and thanks for sharing this, Ted!

Re: Culturae Animalis
Thank you Ted, and thank you @montenzi for the
Small note - they still aren't up on my website shop (the website shop needs an update and I'm working on it but as I'm so busy with various projects I have no idea when it'll be ready to open properly) but the remaining decks are available for purchase directly from me, and I'll make the process very smooth and simple. just email at jackbrutuspenny@hotmail.com. Silver decks are a little cheaper than the golds and it's all still in support of abandoned animals!
Thank you everyone for your support, and for all the nominations in the DOTY awards too!

Re: Culturae Animalis
Got my set directly from Mr. Jack Brutus Penny himself earlier this week (though there were a few hiccups ), and finally got around to opening them. Definitely regret not backing the Kickstarter since you all got the silver included with your pledge rewards, but was happy to pay retail given the amount of transparency in the pricing and the cards themselves are just gorgeous and well worth it. Not a deck for performing sleights with since the gilding is pretty rough and edges will catch, but that's on par with other EPCC PRC-printed and gilded decks I think. Regardless, artwork is awesome, tuck case is beautiful, and Jack was nice enough to work through shipment issues. Looking forward to any future projects!Decknowledgy wrote: Jack's good gesture of not wasting the misgilded silver edition and printing a silver tuck for it has made this project even more interesting: so basically the Gold and the Silver come together as a set! Don't know how many people know about this, but I certainly only did today while taking some photo shoots of the misprinted silver deck. Didn't realize until halfway through that it was the silver all along
Anyways, he said that this will be up on his online store soon. Originally he had an extra debt of $4000 for the reprint but is now reduced to $2000 due to after market sales. Hopefully, the gap would be filled in closer when sales go up on his site That's one responsible man and project creator here!

Re: Culturae Animalis
A small update for this group here following the Cultural Animalis deck of 2019. I'm still not yet ready to announce anything, but I have secretly been working on expanding the world around the Culture Animalis deck in tandem to creating the artwork and narrative to my next luxury art deck. I never plan to make second versions and new reprints as a limited edition art deck should be totally and utterly that, in my opinion. But I will be building this world in a depth I dare say no other playing card deck ever has been. More information to come. And for more regular updates please see my instagram page.

Re: Culturae Animalis
Just ordered a deck today from his website. They look beautiful. Don’t know how I missed the KS. Very excited to hear news of a next deck and a world-building plan around the theme.

Re: Culturae Animalis
Thank you for your support and participation in this project. That's exactly how I view it, as participation in an on-going project as all my creative work from hand-made Japanese white clay illustrated mug cups and clay cufflinks to my written novels, short stories and riddle books as all in the same nonsense universe. I very much look forward to the expanded world-building around the Culturae Animalis cards specifically, and revealing the next luxury art deck 1.5 years in the making. Launch is being planned for approximately 2/3 months from now on KS, and the more people intrigued and telling others about it, the more chance it will be successful, bring a new and innovative deck of cards to people's hands, and help my charitable causes. So all the support you can give it truly appreciated.
I can't wait to bring it to you. As an artist I spend years developing a concept and working on the artwork and it gets to a point where I literally can't wait to show people and reveal what I've been pouring time, energy and passion into. I want to show you everything now, but there are so many hidden elements and secrets to all my work (some for Culturae Animalis still not discovered by anyone to my knowledge), that I need to fight to keep my mouth shut. All I can say, for certainty, is, you won't have seen playing card deck or campaign like this one coming ever before. Whether you like the art design-work or not.Harvonsgard wrote: ↑Wed Feb 17, 2021 9:56 am Castle looks great. I can't wait for the news to come and to see more of the next deck.
Thank you so much for the kind words. I appreciate your support immensely. Please do read my reply to Siege above! I look forward to bringing this next project to you and definitely if you liked the first, I promise you won't be disappointed by the one coming.
GENERAL REPLY
This community was integral to the success of my first luxury art deck. I don't use words lightly and feel I can claim both the luxury and art status with ease, but as an artist I appreciate my work is less accessible to the masses and entirely dependant on taste. Having entered the playing card design arena in addition to my other creative fields about 2.5 years ago, I have learnt about the communities and can say, though it is a lofty goal, that I aspire to be viewed as individuals like Lotrek and creatives like Uusi, with the focus on the art and narrative of the cards medium. What I promise is that, though with the energies put in I can't release more than a deck every few years at most, you will always see a depth, intricacy and whimsical rabbit-hole of hidden narratives through all my designs, the nonsense universe as a whole, and even the campaigns themselves. I view it all as a journey, a peek through the looking-glass, and hope you join me, bring your friends along too, and enjoy the ride.

Re: Culturae Animalis
Yes! A peek through the looking glass indeed. That is what draws me to certain styles and narrative themes like this deck. Something about the artist being able to represent their own journey through the “otherness” (nonsense as just a different kind of sense that’s not linear). It’s also been intriguing me that over this past year of Covid and uncertainty, two of the biggest card designers have been working on decks all about “being at sea”!

Re: Culturae Animalis
There is certainly something incredibly and oddly appealing about being lost and scared in an inexplicable environment. I imagine it is the journey of discovered you must take internally and within the world in order to find your way back to 'reality', to reason. Whether lost at sea, found in a foreign and unknown environment, or simply confused within a maze of words and masked behind images, as you say, very little is true nonsense but more a different way of sensing and interpreting that is non-linear, that is out-of-the-ordinary.Siege wrote: ↑Fri Feb 19, 2021 8:20 am Yes! Re: Culturae Animalis
Great to hear you're working on another deck, Jack!
Collectors just loved the Culturae Animalis deck, and rightly so. It was truly unique, and you gave thought to so many aspects of the design and packaging, it was amazing.
Congrats all round, and looking forward to see what you come up with next!

Re: Culturae Animalis
Thank you very much EndersGame for our kind words about Culturae Animalis. If you did like it, and especially for the depth of thought in all the various aspects, then you really won't be disappointed with the next deck and campaign. I started the artwork as soon as Culturae Animalis fulfilled, so about 1.5 years in the drawing. I plan to launch in a few months so will begin trickling more information in - but do take a look at the other forum page on UC with some initial artwork - I just uploaded the details and thought put into designing just the custom tuck seal. I hope you join me for the next journeyEndersGame wrote: ↑Wed Feb 24, 2021 7:58 pm Great to hear you're working on another deck, Jack!

Re: Culturae Animalis
It took me a while to get my hands on these. Super happy to have them now. The art being amazing lays at hand but handling might raise some eyebrows when reading gilded, EPCC and printed in PRC.
After some breaking in, they handle surprisingly well. Only dribbling and riffling face up remains somewhat clunky. Faroing works fine and back up even effortless. Fanning is superb. For a gilded deck incredible handling.
I don't really practise fans therefore, excuse my execution in the pics below.

Re: Culturae Animalis
Thank you, thank you. Far too kind.
I was just surprised - and that was after I got them and being amazed by their handling - to hear that people said they don't handle well, so I just took some snapshots of what is currently my go-to EDC deck (who would have thought that this would ever be a gilded one, haha).
Here is something more catered to the gallery :

Re: Culturae Animalis
So ready to share some news. With the new campaign for Sensu now live in pre-launch at: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/ja ... enny/sensu
I am slowly going to reveal some of the special features of the deck as well as the campaign. For the deck I'll reserve that for the Sensu deck thread. But for the supporters of Culturae Animalis - this is what I am working on...
Over the last year, I have taken extracts from each of the 52 Culturae Animalis cards and blown them up and hand-coloured them in. I used the Sensu pallet to tie it in with the new campaign, except with each suit/culture having one unique culturally-significant highlight colour. I have also been writing 52 short whimsical nonsense stories to narrate the scene and world behind the deck. In the upcoming campaign, you will see how this all comes together. But to begin with, I will be offering free digital art to all backers and more digital art via stretch goals. This will all come in a few forms - but allow me to present, here, one piece of art provided for free through the campaign as mobile device homescreen/screensavers. I have been testing and using it myself for a few weeks now. The Culturae Animalis Ace of Diamonds (Matsumoto castle).

Super excited for this deck. I will be buying more than my usual 2 of each as I want some to give out to friends and play with. I would say only about 1 in 20 projects get bulk buys from me but this one looks to tick all the boxes!

I may well have plans to release digital artwork for all backers in various forms. And through the campaign, if I receive requests that I think would be good ideas and I am able to bring to everyone, then it would be my pleasure to talk to the community and try!chicken_ql wrote: ↑Tue Apr 13, 2021 1:51 am Do you happen to have a desktop wallpaper like that haha

So with the Sensu project in fulfilment, all backers should know that bonus digital screen and poster artwork from Culturae Animalis was completely redrawn and provided for free. Here is one of the digital wallpapers not yet revealed anywhere else - from the Ace of Spades in the Culturae Animalis deck.

I hope he limits purchases to just a few copies each or some greedy heartless bastard (such as myself) will buy them all
