I opened my craft deck and didn't notice the JoD & QoD issue, after reading your post i checked mine again and yes same thing !

Makes a heart flush way easier. Good to know if anyone brings that deck to a poker table.

Card Experiment wrote:As many of you are already aware of, we had a situation where 2 court cards of the Goketsu Craft deck were duplicated during production. This is entirely our fault due to a lapse in the vetting process during pre-press. We have already arranged for the replacement cards to be printed and we are awaiting USPC to put us in the printing queue. USPC is estimating the production to be completed in December. We will be shipping the 2 replacement court cards to backers of Goketsu Craft deck at our own cost but it will probably be mid January that the cards will reach you.

We sincerely apologize for the misstep in production.
  1. It admittedly would've taken real chutzpah to try to fob blame off on somebody else when they posted the photographic evidence themselves, but - credit where credit is due - this is a refreshingly straightforward and transparent apology. "This is what happened; here's what we're doing to fix it; sorry we messed up." Very good.
  2. This was probably the only financially viable option for them - I'm sure it's already costing them a pretty penny to redo just the two missed courts - but I don't know how satisfactory the final result will be. How likely is it that colors and registration on the separately printed replacement cards won't be noticeably different? Can somebody with USPCC experience weigh in?

No clue about USPCC but speaking from experience with offset printing and today's standard; either
A) very likely if they put QM and effort into it - Today's offset process is completely digitalized and standardised. So they have all the colour and stock profiles they need to replicate a quality that is not noticably different for the customer or
B) unlikely since - well, USPCC.
For example my Federal52 Black Reserve Note has very noticable different gradientes of black througout the deck. Dunno if the printer just went for it and didn't check the sheets or if the overrun decks are actual set-up/maculatur sheets that were used for deck production.

I received my Musha deck and noted that it has the back that the campaign page said would be the Goketsu back. Update #4 also shows the backs labeled, then Update #5 shows the proofs and you can see the backs switched, so they had some quality control/proofing issues across the board. I checked the other updates and at no point did they acknowledge the back switch or even seem to be aware it happened.

I haven't opened mine, but if that's true, that's unfortunate... Looks like this project is full of bad luck on the production side... Update #4 and #5 does look like the backs were switched and the creators themselves didn't even notice

Why can Card Experiment get USPCC to reprint the mis-printed cards while Riffle Shuffle can't?

Both messed up and it was their fault. USPCC offered both to reprint but at their cost. One bite the bullet because they care - one didn't because they assume the backlash will be small when they offer a cheaper solution...

Not exactly. As you said, both messed up and CE stepped up and took full responsibility and is working with USPCC to resolve the issue as best as possible. On the other hand, RS tried to pass the blame onto USPCC for BOTH the error and the reprinting of the single card.

'We have reached out to USPCC to print replacements, but USPCC would not take partial responsibility, and they would not offer us to print the "9 of Hearts" replacements due to machines not being able to print at this quantity.'

I don't understand what they mean by the 'machines not being able to print at this quantity' and that is why I posed the question of why can CE do it and not RS?

Anyways, it's pretty clear to me which company cares more about their customers as opposed to the bottom line.

Is there a difference in print run size of the decks themselves? Hypothetically, to print a single replacement card for a 1000 deck print run, you'd only need to print 1000/56 = ~18 decks of just the corrected card, which is obviously a quantity they don't print at. Then again, even at a 10000 run, the number only goes up to 180, so it's still well below the 1000 minimum. Maybe CE solved it in a different way?

To replace a faulty card I assume they print only a few sheets, especially when the customer has to pay for it.

I think the nail has been hit on it's head. CE chose to work with RS choose to not. CE paid for it, RS blamed for it. In the end we know that's a BS line of not being able to print at this quantity and it's to deflect blame from themselves onto USPCC. USPCC does print promotional decks that come in very low print runs. They also print for magic use and various other very low run items.

Good on you Card Experiment! Card Experiment is pretty great. :)
TL:DR It's completely up to you.
We can still be friends.
I actually like playing cards.

As far as I know, Goketsu Craft was never sold on retail? If there were, it should be the shop owner pledging though the campaign and should be responsible for following through this mistake if customers ever come back to them, imo.
