I like these new ones very much! But I have to say that I prefer the 52+joker deck. The Republic courts have more detail in the eyes and some of the ornamental work is better, but they also have that stroke around them that the 52+j proved unnecessary. Still, absolutely wonderful.

I'm very pleased with both versions. My only gripe would be the tuckbox. I dislike having repeating art on it. My biggest plus is the borderless back; I really dig that.

The price doesn't put me off. I pulled the trigger on Junkanaroo, which was quite a bit more. However, as some others have noted, these look a lot like some other decks they have done. I am also not a huge fan of most monochromatic decks. I might pick up one anyway though. Mostly because I am a bit of an Uusi fan.

I appreciate that they have been up front that this is a 1st issue. So, just be aware that if this design is popular, or they simply run out of this issue, then they will certainly be remaking this design in new issues.

That said, I did look at the cards and they are really similar in most cases to the 2020 52 Plus Joker deck. They had photos of the hearts and spade courts. The King of Spades was fairly different, but the other courts I saw were much more slight in changes. The tuck, backs and Jokers are different.

Uusi is really pushing it with the $30. I'll most likely grind my teeth and bite the bullet - despite having the 52+J version - because I like that back pattern a lot.

Finally got my Republic decks from Uusi. As others have said already, they're very similar to the 52+J deck, but there are definite differences. The obvious differences are the back design, Ace of Spades, Jokers, King of Spades, and tuck box. I think a nice touch of subtle continuity is the foiling of the inner tuck of the 52+J deck is very similar to the foiling on the outside of the Republic tuck (which has a solid matte black inner tuck). The Republic deck is a paler off-white while the 52+J deck is more yellowed, and the courts are bordered on the Republic deck, which I prefer. I was disappointed with the handling of the 52+J deck, which is understandable since it was printed by EPCC China. Fortunately the Republic deck is printed by EPCC Taiwan, so the handling is much smoother. I really wish Uusi would go back to USPCC like all their Kickstarter decks used to be, but they seem to be sticking with EPCC.

Uusi is one of my favorite designers and they used to be "must buy", but I kind of went away from them after they started doing tarot decks, which I am not into at all. However, I was really happy to see and get their Junkanoo deck, and I am very happy with both the 52+J and Republic decks. Between the two, I prefer Republic: more detailed courts, full bleed back design, and better handling. I hope this is a sign Uusi will start putting out more poker playing cards again along with their tarot decks. A Gentleman Wake x Uusi collab would be phenomenal, and an Annual UC deck from Uusi would be even better!

Quality over quantity. Uusi is my favorite publisher currently. Besides their outstanding artwork, I specifically like that they aren't like others, pushing deck after deck.
Same goes for collab with TGW, they already have Pagan so no need for another deck with 5+ alterations, imho.
Not that I would really mind since, I'm far from being a completist but I love to keep the not-like-everyone-else image I have .

I really respect Uusi's work; it is fantastic art, and they go quality all the way. I'm glad they are able to command a premium price for their work.

That said, this deck, like their original Blue Bloods, is a deck where I can see and appreciate the brilliant design and effort that went into these, but at the same time, acknowledge this particular deck just doesn't sing to me. The completist in me would like to pick it up anyway, but as I've mentioned in other threads, I have to stop the insanity, and the $30 price point for this deck makes it a little easier for me to train my brain to let it go.

Glad they went with the Taiwan plant to have these produced. Definitely looking forward to their future efforts. Still, giving this one a pass.

I have reached out to Linnea and Peter several times. We discussed it quite a bit in 2021 and just recently again. But It seems they have too many things on their plate currently. They didn't close door on it tho.
