Mayan Legacy by Plan52 (working title)
Hello all together,
As the saying goes, "After the project, is before the project."
Now that we have successfully financed our Pixel Kingdom with your help, we are deep into preparing printing and fullfillment, while our Artist is already working on the preparations for our next deck.
Actually, the artist is already in the middle of it since the end of October.
During the Kickstarter preparations for Pixel Kingdom, the incredible Oskar Alvarado ( https://www.instagram.com/oskaralvarado_art ) has started to design the "Mayan Legacy" (working title).
As with Pixel Kingdom, we hope to bring the deck to life with your feedback and support.
Let's begin with the Kings. Looking forward to your feedback.
Best
Marco

Unfortunately, it is very quiet here at the moment.
Nevertheless, today I would like to present our King of Diamonds in the possible final version.
About feedback and opinions, I would still be very grateful.

I like it very much! The theme and the style is very fitting and I'm looking forward to more pictures. Just the index should go more with the style, it looks a bit "anotherworld-ish" at the moment.
Remember Earth clearly.

Re: Mayan Legacy by Plan52 (working title)
Hello, thank you very much for your feedback. We are currently using a more rounded version of the classic index,
We are still in the process of testing some options. I think once we have the typo of the tuckbox design, we'll go deeper into that. Maybe then we'll set the tuckbox typo as matching all cards, or we'll shade the index with the pip colors. Until then, we'll use the classic round index.
You want more pictures, so here we go
We chose a jade-like theme for the black cards and tried to reflect that in the pips and index.
So the question here would be. How do you like the color, instead of the classic black?

Re: Mayan Legacy by Plan52 (working title)
The draft section is most of the times very quiet here. Don't worry about that.
The subreddit r/playingcards on reddit is sometimes a better place to pool some comments about designs.
In general, I like what I see here. Mesoamerican themes are always very interesting for me.
Some areas that can be improved:
• I like when black and red suits are somewhat easy to tell apart, which mostly is achieved through a flipped colour scheme. Your four kings are, while nice, not really easy to tell apart.
• Suits/pips - I know, this is a trade of topic as some people want/insist french pips but for me personally it makes no sense to have an Aztec/Mayan inspired deck to go french suits. Full custom pips/suits would be my approach. At the bare minimum I would go with Spanish/Latin suits (conquista and stuff)
I second what masagin wrote about the index but just like the pips I can see why you wanna keep it standard-ish for a more familiar feel.
• The petro-/hieroglyph in the back ground. It's the same icon on both kings and throughout the card. Of course a smart sleight from a graphic design point of view but as someone looking for intricacy and details, I would love to have something that sells the illusion of an actual codex passage longer than just for a second glance.
I do of course understand that the extra amount of time this would take, doesn't necessarly translate to better funding so, I can see that this will be left unchanged.

Re: Mayan Legacy by Plan52 (working title)
Color definitely goes well with the overall court colors. I'm more of a playable card collector and these are a cool deck to be used as table playing cards. So I'd like the classic black color but not sure if the black color would go with the court colors.

Thank you for your feedback.
We went back to our torture chamber and redesigned the index parts to better fit the overall style.
We also went with the idea of different frames for each king.
Hope you like it

I like this, a lot!
Left my heart in SIERRA MADRE
"Finding it... that's not the hard part. It's letting go."
"One makes a trip by day, but by night one sets out on a journey." -Moominmamma
I dream of a world where wars are fought only by having dance offs. I also dream that a Finnish playing card designer would exist. The former seems more likely to happend.
Money can't buy you happiness, but it can buy you a penguin. Have you ever met a sad person with a penguin?
Are lobsters mermaids to scorpions?
"I did not hit her, it's not true, it's bullsh*t, I did not hit her, I did naaaht! Oh hai Mark!"

Your index pips aren't the same size, the spade is recognizably smaller than the rest. Might be just a mock-up problem but definitely keep an eye on that pre-production.

Spaces between K and pip are different too.Harvonsgard wrote: ↑Wed Mar 03, 2021 11:40 am Your index pips aren't the same size, the spade is recognizably smaller than the rest. Might be just a mock-up problem but definitely keep an eye on that pre-production.
Move on, nothing to see here.

I also really like what I am seeing thus far. I cannot imagine me not backing this deck. My mom made me an aztec blanket 50+ years ago and I still have it. Love this theme. Love honoring my Aztec heritage. Look forward to seeing more as this progresses.

Thanks everyone. You are right. Something went wrong there. This should be better now
