It's unintentional - or, more accurately, is done with no evil intent.

Not only is this the only forum I've ever used which has such a rule (and I've used tons of forums), but the one I have used for the longest time only allows editing a post for a minute or two after it has been posted, so I don't even think of appending something to a post I made more than a minute or two ago here, even though it is not only allowed, but encouraged.

Again, my apologies. I will try harder to develop that habit here.

Has anyone contacted the authors of the forum software to see if there is a plug-in (or whatever) which would prevent what you here refer to as "duplicate posts"? When someone tries to post after a post they have already made in a thread, the plug-in could say something like "Making two posts in a row within a thread/topic is not allowed on this forum." and, ideally, would provide an option to automatically append the attempted "duplicate post" to the previous one.

Seems like it would be a win-win if that could be done. The mods wouldn't have to scold and/or clean up after clueless mooks like me, and those mooks could add their thoughts to a thread without annoying anyone who would have considered them doing so in a subsequent post a violation of local etiquette and rules.

Totally true, I guess my thought would always be AMAZON first. At least that way you know the shipper and it's fast and many times is FREE delivery. And AMAZON ships globally. But you can't use PAYPAL on AMAZON.... curses!

Can't say why (although the No PayPal thing plays into it), but I rarely use Amazon for anything but books and music. I have probably purchased no more than ten or twelve items on Amazon, but have purchased...well,at least 350 items on eBay (My user rating is 347 as of yesterday), nearly ALL of which were decks of playing cards (which is another reason I gravitate ther and not Amazon - old and obscure decks just aren't found on Amazon, just recent stuff). I have been using eBay for more than fifteen years now (I started using it before it was even called eBay - it was called "AuctionWeb" (I remember thinbking, when they changed it, "eBay"? Well, THAT'S a dumb name - it'll NEVER catch on!"

Because that is a solid teak high gloss finish box and is worth probably at least $45. Can be used for other purposes too, like jewelry box or for storing wristwatches, etc.

No, I'm not selling or buying that box.But if you have good quality wooden boxes (not like pine or other common wood) you should check how much you can get on E-bay.You will be surprised, and you don't need to put any decks in either

Given the fact that it's a swap - i don't think he has any intention of selling them, no matter what the price. I think he's just using it as a way to advertising those that he wants to swap, but I could be wrong.

No, that is not what "Swap Playing Cards" means.

It basically means individual cards rather than a complete deck.

It started back in (I think) the 1930s or 1940s, when kids started collecting one card each from various decks of playing cards. The "goal" was to collect as many different backs as possible. Often, the cards were displayed in photo albums (which, back then, had pages made of construction paper, and adhesive "corners" were used to hold photos (or, in this case, playing cards) in place, back side up, on the pages.

Often, the kids would obtain an entire deck, put one card from it into their collection, and keep the rest to swap/trade with other kids at school who had similar collections, thus the term "swap cards" was born. I have heard that sometimes the kids would organize a specific day at school where each of the kids who collected swap cards would bring a full deck to school, and the swapping would commence!

This was evidently popular enough at one point that specific albums were manufactured for it, with covers with titles like "My Playing Cards" on them.

the kids(mostly girls, apparently) often collected only cards with backs of a specific "theme" (flowers, landscapes, pets, etc), or divided their album into sections each containing only backs with a given theme.

I have run across some of these albums - some still containing playing cards, some empty - at antique stores.

I said that mostly girls had these collections because I have met a number of older women (at playing card collector conventions) who had such collections when they were little girls, some of them still collecting single cards (or "swap cards") to this day. The CPCC (Chicago Playing Card Collectors) Club was originally formed by some of these people.

I think that little girls collected them back then in response to boys collecting baseball cards and such.

If you search eBay for "Swap Playing Cards" you will see lots of auctions with "swap playing cards" in their descriptions. I think these are marketed towards buyers who are still collecting individual cards (rather than decks) rather than they are looking to actually swap cards.

I have met many people who only collected one specific card from every deck. Most often it is the Spade Ace or the Joker (I guess because they are the cards that most widely vary from deck to deck), but sometimes it is a much-less-unique card (say, the six of diamonds)

I once went through a period of months where just such a collector had beat me to dozens of antique stores in Southern California. I knew this because EVERY SINGLE DECK IN ALL OF THOSE STORES was missing the Jack of Spades!

Since the focus of my collection is decks with custom courts, the missing Jacks of Spades made every one of those decks undesirable to me - Gaaaah!!

I make almost all of my eBay purchases via Buy It Now, but I don't think I've ever abbreviated it as "BIN" for some reason.

I would have "got it" had the Buy It Now price been shown on the forum/windowed version of the listing, and it did not occur to me to view the full/eBay version.

Lesson learned!

(It says "unspecified" here, but when I brought it up it said that shipping was $48.15(!!!!) from Ohio to Oregon.

I left a question asking if they were purchasing the decks a ticket on a plane to ship them.

ETA: The seller replied that the Shipping charge was a mistake, but that he/she could not edit it at this point (I assume because someone had already bid on it).

I went to place a bid, but the auction had ended ONE MINUTE BEFORE I GOT THERE!

Robert, supposedly a "multi-quote" ability is going to be in the forthcoming version 3.1 of the software ("phpBB 3.0.12" is current), and I've seen software that actually welds to or more consecutive posts by one person into one automatically, but most of the implementations allow you to pick multiple posts in a single thread to "multi-quote" and then when you click "Post Reply" create a skeleton with each of those messages already quoted into one reply.

It's actually pretty easy to do, just "Quote" the first one, "Cut" the entire message out, hit "Page Back" (left arrow usually) and quote the next message you want, then Paste the first message up top and you're done (other than adding your own verbiage to both - i.e. your responses).

It's simple enough to do - I just welded 6 posts into 2 for instance. Anyone that created two or more posts in a row can do it for themselves with very little effort or confusing steps.

No big deal, really - but try to be neat and not post 2, 3 or 4 posts in a row. (it wouldn't hurt to cut out some of the 'blindly' quoting either, but another subject for another day - I paid for unlimited storage space, so it's not a problem in general)

Hopefully we'll be seeing version 3.1 of the software soon, it's been "under construction" for almost 2 years and the reason it's taken so long is that they shoe-horned almost all of what was originally planned for version 4 into 3.1, so it should be a significant upgrade!

There's an easier way than that. After clicking "Quote" on one post, just scroll down and click "Quote" again on another one (posts appear below the "Post a reply" window in reverse chronological order).
