Pike and Clover (2nd ed), and also Rare Triumphs tarot
So I am planning to launch my new Kickstarter on Monday. Here's the link to the Kickstarter prelaunch page where you can sign up to be notified when the launch happens.
There will be two sets of cards included in this project:
- A second edition of the Pike and Clover playing cards, some small variations, most obviously the colour palette ...
- An extended version, Rare Triumphs, with the addition of knights and the trump suit to make up a full 78-card tarot deck.
Couple of pics attached to give you an idea.
For those who are unfamiliar with the background or want to read more, here are the links to the old threads for Pike and Clover, and for the Rare Triumphs first go.

Re: Pike and Clover (2nd ed), and also Rare Triumphs tarot
I am looking forward to getting mine as well. Ian is not a well-known playing card artist. At first glance, his artwork looks a bit clumsy. It took a little bit for his art to grow on me. However, I really like his style. I agree Harvonsgard that this (and all of Ian's decks) are underrated gems.

I also have not received my decks yet. Ian is one of my favorite playing card artists and I am looking forward to receiving the decks. I like his original style and I do not know of another artist doing similar type decks. I always look forward to his releases.

The style is "clumsy" on purpose, mainly because it's citing classic European patterns which may look clumsy from the modern point of view.Bradius wrote: ↑Thu Dec 03, 2020 10:38 am I am looking forward to getting mine as well. This definitely has Origins Rouen vibes and it looks fantastic. I will have to keep my eye on this for my wishlist.

Ian does have two earlier released decks available on his website, which is a good source for his decks. I am sure he will have extras of this available soon on his website.

i only discovered Ian Cumpstey deck at deck no. 3 or pike and clover v1. I agree with above statements, his decks are gems and seem to be under the radar....

Nothing yet, but it's only been a bit over a week since posting. If everything is right with the world it should be here by the end of next week.

Re: Pike and Clover (2nd ed), and also Rare Triumphs tarot
My two Rare Triumphs decks came in. I am fine with the tuck and glad I didn't have to open the cellophane wrapper (which I would have done to at least one of the decks. The artwork is magnificent, as expected. The handling is surprisingly awesome. I mean really awesome. I would be interested in others opinions on the handling of this deck.

Aren't they Cartamundi cards?

Re: Pike and Clover (2nd ed), and also Rare Triumphs tarot
The box says "made in China", so it is not printed by Cartamundi. Since this is likely a small run, I am thinking MPC, which is really putting out some nice handling decks on their higher end options.

Re: Pike and Clover (2nd ed), and also Rare Triumphs tarot
The tucks are made in China, but the cards are indeed Cartamundi.
From a KS update: "Also, I heard from Cartamundi this morning that the printing of the cards themselves is now complete, and that the cards will be shipped to me next week. So that's all good news."
From the campaign description: "Cards printed by Cartamundi, slimline stock, B9, linen"

Okay. I stand corrected. These seemed stiffer than I would expect from Cartamundi.

Re: Pike and Clover (2nd ed), and also Rare Triumphs tarot
I absolutely love the handling of these deck(s), although, as someone else noted, of all of the projects that I have from Ian, this is the only one with a tuck box that is difficult to open and feels... less awesome than the rest.
YMMV, but I prefer the tucks from all his other projects. Hey, Ian! Are you reading this! You did *great* with the decks! Now, go back to the earlier kind of work you did with the tucks!
