That tuck box has too much of a Tom's Town vibe... the faces would need more to be tempting

Agreed, too much white space on the courts for me to take a stab at these.

First thought that came to mind: Kevin Cantrell is suffering from a major case of writer's block.

Hi all, creator here! I have been thinking whether I wanted to write on here or leave the topic creep-free :D But since I have received similar comments on different outlets, I thought I'd share here too:

- TUCK CASE. The tuck case is inspired to many (we are talking 10+) different signs of those times, so I was confused when a couple of people told me that it looked like Tom's Town (please don't hate me, had no idea what it was!). I went to look into it and, indeed, a part of the lines pattern is identical to something in a brand or a label. What I think happened there is it got copy pasted by mistake in the final design. I can assure you though it is just a rather small part (specifically on the side), and we'll be redesigning it today. I am not looking for a lawsuit :D

- WHITE SPACE: I cannot disagree here either. Here the designer took a quite strong stance when I brought the issue up (you can see in the Custom Deck Drafting Board section the topic). She thinks that figures needed to be airy, because that was the style back then, and any more background would have been too much and would have taken the attention away from the figures.
I think this version is a straight improvement on what we had before. I heard conflicting opinions, some people don't like the white space, others do, others don't mind, so I figured it would not be a dealbreaker (hopefully that will be right!)

I'll be here if anyone has a question, I will not be interfering otherwise :)

Meh - I don't really buy that claim that "figures needed to be airy" and "any more background would have been too much and would have taken the attention away from the figures". As someone that is an hour outside of New Orleans, LA where "Guns, Jazz and Whiskey" is a required past-time, there is nothing airy about those subjects. The court singers should be on a stage with a 3-piece band - the drinkers should be at a bar...the coppers should be walking down Bourbon Street. I don't feel any connection to the court members. They are lifeless.

I see your point - however, the scene is set in NYC, and the big theme around which the deck revolves is Art Deco. You probably know the Great Gatsby, the feel we wanted to go for is that one. What you see is full figures, overdressed, emancipated. The 20s (I'm talking for the upper class here) where possibly the first time in which people were able to be unique, and in which their uniqueness was more important than what society dictated (take flappers as an example)

This is the stylistic/cultural theme that we aimed for

I do agree that it is partial and that there is a lot more to those times than what we show, but I do think that also what is in the deck is representing a specific part of society, and that society is in line with the style. Obviously I am not trying to change your mind, just to explain what we come from :)

For some reason this reminds me a lot of the recent "The Greatest Swing Dancers" deck that was on KS. Not my cup of tea, but best of luck!

Hi all! I hope it is ok to bump this thread, it feels like a better idea than creating a new one - please feel free to delete if it is not.
So sadly we didn't hit our goal in March, due to both a few mistakes in the design and campaign, and to a rough overall global situation.
This Saturday we will be relaunching the project. First things first: here the preview link in case you want to get a notification (launch is November 21st, 9am ET, 4pm CET).

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/17 ... s-relaunch

First off: I did not write much on the forum for reworking the project, but I did have quite a lot of feedback from PMs with several members of UC, and the feedback I received is invaluable. Therefore, hoping that it is not against any rule of the forum (but I don't see why), I'd like to offer a little thank you to everyone on here: I'll add a free couple of stickers to all orders from forum members, and throw in a 5th deck (Sharpshooter or Colores de Colombia) for all pledges of 4 or more decks - all I ask you is to send me a PM here or on KS with your username, or to comment on this thread. This little gift will stack with any other freebie of the project (for example, EU-friendly shipping to pledges of 4 or more decks). I know it's not much, but I hope you'll appreciate the effort on my side :)

We have changed quite a few things. First, we added a second deck. The deck of the previous campaign (now renamed Bee's Knees) will be a limited edition with gold foil on the tuck and metallic golden ink on the cards.
The deck we added is now the standard edition (Sharpshooter), which will land at around $10 with EB prices (substantially cheaper than in the previous campaign), and will feature a borderless back so to make everybody happy. The tuck case I am especially proud of: is an art deco take of what the NYC skyline looked 100 years ago.
Everything will be USPCC Bee stock.

The biggest feedback I had received was that there was too much negative space on the court cards. We have reworked the pattern and figures on the Sharpshooter deck to account for that, and created a whole different background pattern for the Bee's Knees deck that I believe entirely solves that issue.
Besides that, we designed new jokers and aces for both decks, and obviously the whole tuck case of the Sharpshooter edition, which

The lore of the project remained unchanged, and I for one think we did the absolute best that we could on this one. Feedback, as always, is much appreciated. I'll drop some pictures here below for those of you that want to see more!

The backgrounds on the spade courts are definitely an improvement. Much better than having them standing in a void.
I've spent way more than I care to admit on playing cards, but I'll still buy just about anything that Lorenzo, Jackson, or Gio make.

Thanks! That was a frequent feedback here on the forum and elsewhere. We actually also reworked the other background deck, both by making the golden background bigger and by cutting out a slice of the court cards, I think the result is better!

Thanks for posting the new campaign! Could I kindly ask a mod to fix the first post?

BTW out of curiosity, did you receive the email today? Because KS sent me the good luck email for starting the campaign about an hour ago, and it seems like a few people are coming to the project right now
