Ironman Mark 85 Playing Cards

Unread post by shermjack »

This deck is available for pre-order in China on EPCS's website for Singles Day (11/11 from 00:00 - 24:00). Shipping will not be until the end of the year or later.

5,999 decks printed and 2,000 available in China. I am not sure when and where the remaining decks will be sold, but I am sure that they will be made available worldwide (maybe through Riffle Shuffle, but don't take my word for it). This is a fully licensed deck from Disney.

The tuck is pretty cool because the Arc Reactor lights up when you open it up, but that's about it. Though the courts are all custom, they are quite boring along with the rest of the face cards, but since I am a Tuckist, that really doesn't bother me.

I wish they would have done a full color courts instead of the line drawings. It looks like the logical evolution of the fanning tuck designed by Kevin Yu. Very cool and serves as a great crossover, appealing to both the Comic/movie fans and card collectors.

But it doesn't look cheap at all. Any mention how much is the deck?

Agreed, they could have done much more with the cards, but I guess they spent all their money on the tuck and copyright

They were on sale today for approx 45US, but the retail price is supposed to be 100US.

Is it real? I'd been dreaming about having such a Marvel deck where arc reactor lights up, and here you go.

MPC is owned by QP Group, right? If yes, then this deck is produced by MPC or in the same facility as MPC's.

I love that these things bring more people into the hobby. I love that these kinds of things generate excitement. I have no doubt that to different eyes this looks incredible and amazing and they can't wait to play with the deck of playing cards.

This looks to me like another rather boring and unimpressive deck in a flashy transformer box that doesn't transform into anything but hey it lights up. I am not against flashy boxes, not at all. I am however noticing a trend with the kind of deck design housed in this kind of flashy box. From what I can see of the playing cards in that flashy box. This isn't for me.
TL:DR It's completely up to you.
We can still be friends.
I actually like playing cards.

as for me, an expensive deck of cards. In Poland, you would have to pay about PLN 300 for one deck :/

I wish! Then it would be under $10  I get what you're saying though- it's all about the tuck. I just like Iron Man (before Robert Downey Jr. made it cool*), I like the gimmick, and I like that it's licensed.

A company called Onnit had these Ironman kettlebells, looked really cool. I like Iron Man too but not enough to get this deck. I won't enjoy playing with the cards.

Iron Man Mark 85 by Card Mafia

Announced on their most recent Kickstarter, apparently coming in March via their web site. 5,999 made, 3,999 through their web site available. I expect these to be pricey;

When i see the cards, the design is..... could be better
But what drives me in this are a few things.
1. Cuz it’s Marvel. MCU makes me side up with Marvel when DC failed me
2. Fanning tuckbox and lights: cuz its interesting, reminds me of when i got that Helius sun, Luna Moon, and Ester star. PS: I hope there is a way for us to be able to change the batteries in case the light fades
3. It’s licensed by Disney, nothing might go wrong with licensed product

On a side note: I wonder if these decks will make it to be sold in HongKong Disneyland?

A meme on Insta

Screenshot_20210204-120403_1.jpg

EXCESSIVE PACKAGING WITH LITTLE CONTENT has been a theme for playing cards in 2020, particularly cards produced by companies listed in Hong Kong aka China. (Hong Kong has to be a front since Kickstarter can not be operated within their firewall)

Don't forget there's also this that's funding at the moment:

+1 for MCU over DC. ‘Nuff said. Try to watch Wonder Woman 1984 if you disagree.

Of course I’m going to buy this deck for all the reasons already mentioned. I do feel bad about encouraging lazy card design covered up with extravagant packaging. But how can I miss out on a light-up Iron Man deck? I’m only human.
