Unread post by Decknowledgy »

Sequel to the Cobra Playing Cards: https://jpgamesltd.co.uk/buy-playing-ca ... ying-Cards
FALCON is the sequel to COBRA. Illustrated by Ade Suryana, FALCON takes everything you love about the first deck and gives it a fresh new look. With gorgeous line work and fabulous attention to detail it's perfect for card games and collectors alike.

Housed in the same elegant soft touch tuck box and featuring a gold foil FALCON logo. Traditional faces and numbers are accompanied by improved gold metallic inks on the courts and backs. Included for magicians is a blank face and a double backer.

Printed by Cartamundi on their exceptional slimline b9 stock with cardistry finish.

I like these. Part of me likes the minimal tuck theme they have going on and part of me wishes they were more detailed. But I guess if the tucks had more "bling" then it would really look like a T11 deck. Which isn't a bad thing.

I dismissed the cobra deck but now I think a predator-themed series would be pretty cool.

Which was exactly what was discussed in the original Cobra thread

We have a number of other 'predators' we're considering as a follow-up but Rick is a busy, busy man. We have a few concepts and themes not far off from what you guys are talking about - an insect, a bird and a big cat! :D

I didn't know Rick Davidson was behind these! I'm even more interested now... But I wish the series would all come out at once. Or at least the plan be announced. I'd like to know ahead of time what I'll be getting into since I like complete series.

This one is designed by Ade Suryana.

We can't announce a plan, because we honestly don't know. There are no plans for future decks, no design work done and no research has even commenced into what a 3rd deck would be.

I do like this deck and I liked the cobra decks. The appeal to me is the clean and simplistic look. Not sure how I define it but they look elegant to me. I will definitely be getting a few when available.

These are great. I haven't opened a slimline deck. How do people feel about it versus the original b9 stock?

Thinner, sturdier (not as easy to split on the edges), snappier, but finish is smoother as well (due to being crushed I assume)
Still feels more papery than USPCC though.

I received an email and checked out the deck at JP Games. I was wondering if Rick designed this deck, so I checked here and note that Ada Surana did Falcons. I would include the name of the artist in the description on the site. I like both artists a lot, so I definitely don't think using Ada for Falcons is in any way a step down from Cobra. While I might not add it right now, it is definitely going on my list of decks to get before too long.

Interesting... I would describe Cartamundi in general less papery than USPCC. More close to EPCC Taiwan classic finish - not regarding snap but the surface feel.

Ade was mentioned in the newsletter and is also credited on site.

Ada's great, too. If you do another deck in this "series" with a different artist, they've got big shoes to fill.

I like the clean look. That REALLY looks like an eagle on the tuck/Ace though, no?
