Re: Robin Hood by KWP - Aug 2020 Shorts deck
That is interesting. I kind of find it distracting for the most part. Once he really screamed his intro and nearly broke my headphones and eardrums in the process.
Anyway, it was good to hear about the progress and see the tuck for the gilded Robin Hood deck. While the box looks awesome, I’d kind of like more art on the cover than just text, but probably it will grow on me. I am guessing Jackson is trying to get a basic look so the boxes of future editions will look nice to each other. I wonder what he has plans for Dante’s Inferno?
I am glad to see Jackson’s health is so improved since his move. The contrast from his videos back in Austin are quite shocking. He really was suffering badly there.

I think he mentioned that he was going for a more vintage look on the tucks that look like vintage and old books. I suppose there weren't lot of art work on the cover of old books

My regular sub deck arrived this morning in my PO box. The extra full set I ordered still coming. Pick it up in the morning. Excited to crack open that lil box.

If you look carefully, you might note that one of the Jacks is actually one way with a little furry critter peaking out.

Re: Robin Hood by KWP - Aug 2020 Shorts deck
From KWP's Instagram it seems that RH decks will be released to public (but first only to members) on Thursday. I hope non subscription members like me get a shot to buy the standard ones and also hope they don't get sold out. *fingers crossed*

Re: Robin Hood by KWP - Aug 2020 Shorts deck
My understanding is that Robin Hood will be added to the KWP line-up of decks that will remain available. So, I think if the standard decks sell out, there will be reprints that KWP will make available. So, I wouldn't worry if they sell out. More will most likely be printed. Still, best to keep an eye out and fingers ready to pounce.

I think it would be wise for him to keep the Robin Hood - King Arthur - Beowulf series in print (does he have a series name for these?). I may hold out for a new RH printing just to see if the gold foil flaking issue improves. So excited for the new Arthurian on Saturday.

For those that are waiting until Saturday for the Robin Hood release. I think I can safely say "Fear not". I was just checking the members website, and it appears there are current....2,714 Robin Hood standard decks available. So, yeah, there are a LOT of these available.

Re: Robin Hood by KWP - Aug 2020 Shorts deck
I wasn't interested in the Sherwood Gilded decks as I already have 3 of the subscription gilded decks, and at $65 each, that is another $20 more than the subscription decks. Anyway, I just remembered that they went on sale today to members and they were already sold out. Not sure how fast they sold out, but it looks like it was a fast sale.
While I understand that the box maker evidently has a minimum order of 500, I would have preferred that they all be gilded gold, rather than making another "rarer than rare" deck. It just gives me another reason to drop my gilded subscriptions to be honest as other decks come out that are even rarer gilding.
I thought this was interesting the 300 gilded decks grossed $45 x 300 = $13,500, while the Sherwood gilded decks grossed $65 x 145 = $9,425. Wow, nearly $10k more. BTW, that $9,425 is the same as selling 628 standard decks (1,700 available)...
So then I look on eBay, just for fun....

Re: Robin Hood by KWP - Aug 2020 Shorts deck
I think Jackson wants the Gilded version to have a lower number run than the Limited, which is currently at 500 decks. That makes sense to me. Personally, I really like the extra releases such as the Sherwood Forest edition. At the same time, they clearly sell very well.
Unfortunately, it seems this particular release was marred by some technical glitches with the product not initially appearing in the Member's section. Lots of people on Instagram are pretty angry about it.

I've spent way more than I care to admit on playing cards, but I'll still buy just about anything that Lorenzo, Jackson, or Gio make.

Besides a lot of people angry about the glitch, the low numbers sold out under 3 minutes despite not showing up for many people. Apparently those who used the search bar could find the page; those who kept refreshing the member's section found nothing.

Not really a glitch... at least not a technical one. The Sherwood deck was in the Member's Area.Decknowledgy wrote: ↑Thu Oct 29, 2020 1:31 pmBesides a lot of people angry about the glitch, the low numbers sold out under 3 minutes despite not showing up for many people. By default, the page is sorted by 'Featured'. I believe what may have happened is that the deck was added without being marked as 'featured'.
Clicking the sort drop-down box and selecting anything else would've shown the Sherwood deck on the page. Or searching, as was mentioned above.

Re: Robin Hood by KWP - Aug 2020 Shorts deck
Well, you can look at the page now, and when sorted by featured it shows the Sherwood edition, but not the Limited Don't Tread on Me deck. This tells me that even when sorted by Featured, it should still show all of the decks, not just those labeled as Featured.Aces_Rye wrote: ↑Thu Oct 29, 2020 1:48 pm Not really a glitch... at least not a technical one. I think the problem may be that it is cutting the page off after the first row of listings, and the Sherwood edition happened to be on the next line.

Thanks for the update on the sale. I had no idea and glad I was blissfully oblivious. It is just another reason why I am tired of flash sales and these whole "ultra rare" events. Honestly, the standard decks are wonderful at $15. Plenty available. This is my favorite KWP deck for 2020.

Well, it WAS a problem at 12pm. See the angry posts on Instagram. I kept refreshing for 5 minutes. Then I had a look at Instagram. People were already posting solutions for the problem.masagin303 wrote: ↑Thu Oct 29, 2020 2:03 pm What exactly do you see on members' page guys? Same here, it did not show up for me. When I sorted it showed up but it was too late, all sold. Probably a good thing as I would have bought two decks. It saved me $130. I love JR's work but I have given up trying to get all of his decks. Definitely experiencing a bit of overall KWP fatigue but still looking very forward to the LotR and the Beowulf decks.

I missed this launch for a very different reason. We changed last weekend to winter time and I totally forgot
I was there an hour later and I saw nothing.

'these cards look like someone was sewing them on a sewing machine.'
I think it was the original idea for these cards. If they seem as sewed ones-it means good job was done.

Re: Robin Hood by KWP - Aug 2020 Shorts deck
Jackson had said, he drew inspiration from the Bayeux Tapestry. Here was what Jackson said about this deck from early in this thread:
An Easter egg at 1:13:00. That is why you should watch his youtube live stuff. BTW, there is a live event today. I think at 8PM Central Time.
Jackson did several YouTube videos of drawing this deck, which I would encourage you to watch if you want to see how he did it. Below is my favorite, but there are also some nice time lapse videos on YouTube as well.I will most likely be putting the names of each character on the card when I finish. The original inspiration for this deck is the Bayeux Tapestry. The Bayeux tapestry is a a piece from the 11th century that tells the story leading up to the battle of Hastings in 1066. On this tapestry (which is almost 224 ft long) Each comic panel is captioned with type that explains whats going on (basically a 11tch century comic book) For me the type treatment on the tapestry is almost as important as the images themselves. This is my reasoning for having the type on the cards.
An Easter egg at 1:13:00. That is why you should watch his youtube live stuff. BTW, there is a live event today. I think at 8PM Central Time.

I see the resale/flip market is alive and well. Current bid at $305: https://www.ebay.com/itm/303749536482
Missed being able to grab one due to the Shopify issues, but looks like I won't be getting one if this is what they're going for...

Btw, these two eBay listings both used a stock photo showing #1 of 145 (with no mention of it in the description). I could see a buyer being upset when he receives the deck he paid $400 for and it's a different number.

Re: Robin Hood by KWP - Aug 2020 Shorts deck
I just don't understand these prices. I am not sure they are a reliable indication of long-term market value. I have seen a regular gilded subscription decks sell for $200+. I think as more of these book sets hit, the value will stabilize much lower. I wonder if something similar happened with the Legacy sets back when they first came out. I am guessing most likely so. The bottom like is there will be 500 gilded deck sets in total out there, so not insanely rare in my opinion. However, maybe I should offer one of mine up for $400. That could help defray my monthly subscription bill.
