Regional and or local pips and suits
Hey all,
I am wondering if there are playing cards out there with regional or local specific suites, pips, etc. Couple of Wiki links to help with the context I'm referring to. Thank you!

Despite tarot decks using wands instead of clubs, not much else out there to my knowledge.
The only thing else are completely costum suits that replace traditional suits but I don't know if you're asking about them?

Of course they are and they are available in those regions because people still use them for their everyday plays. Being it German patterns or Swiss playing cards or regional Italian cards and many many more. In Europe there's a great variaty of regional patterns still produced and used today.GandalfTheWhite wrote: ↑Sun Sep 27, 2020 8:11 pm Hey all,

Thanks for the replies @Harvonsgard and @Masagin303.
Those links are exactly what I was wondering and looking for. Any idea if these can be found and bought online or would it be that someone local can only get these and might have to come up with ideas to get them to the US?

It will take some searching but you'll be able to get a lot of stuff online. For example, here you can get some Italian patterns from a Swiss playing card shop: https://www.playingcards.ch/de/italienische-karten I think you can get anything with a little help of Google. Lot of these are produced by traditional European card manufacturer - Piatnik. But unfortunatelly they don't have any central e-shop where you could buy all those regional flavors.GandalfTheWhite wrote: ↑Mon Sep 28, 2020 1:34 pm Thanks for the replies @Harvonsgard and @Masagin303.

I can send you some decks with Bohemian pattern and Austrian William Tell pattern cause those are common here in Czechia.
You can definitely get some Carte Doriche deck from someone here on UC, just use the appropriate forum for that. I only have one so I won't share.
Ian Cumpstey (aka Shimmering here on UC) just recently released the Commoners deck which is a modern take on German style decks but with modern indices printed with Cartamundi.
Maybe this discussion could be a good place to share some links to shops with these cards.

Also amazon.de could help greatly. Here's an example for "Piacentine cards" search query: https://www.amazon.de/s?k=piacentine+ca ... nb_sb_noss You just have to know what you are looking for.

And while searching I just found this reprint of a deck from 1917 Austria-Hungary by Piatnik.

Like you said, "..just have to know what you are looking for". This really really helps! Now I know what to look for. I'll do my search too and will share whatever I find.

You might like the information in the sidebar on this page. (R. Somerville store site)
Note: just linking for reference. Site says it hasn't been updated since 2011 and while it claims you can email orders, I haven't heard of anyone doing it, nor anything about the company itself.
edit: also just came across this site. (Collection of the Worshipful Company of Makers of Playing Cards. Saw them mentioned by Squiddle_Ink.)

Awesome, thanks! One of our fellow UC member had snagged Tahitian deck a.k.a Je De Cartes De Tahiti. This is another one of the example of what I am looking for. I will be keeping a look out for these on ebay.
