I went in on a Deluxe Collector's set of these as soon as the Kickstarter went live. I should have looked around here first before pulling the trigger.
My cards arrived yesterday,
delivered in a box that looks like Ace Venture delivered it.
All good, though, because the contents were wrapped many times over with bubble wrap.
Once I take it out, everything looks great. The case the decks are in is well made for what it is. An eye for fine stitching and craftsmanship is not the eye to view this with, though, and that's okay given the price.
You might notice the spec of...whatever it is, on the white deck. That deck -- the "Pearl White" deck, limited to 100 -- is the deck I was looking the most forward to. I was able to wipe away most of whatever it was, but I thought, "No matter; I'll just flip all the decks so that the other side is facing up." I began thus with the Pearl White deck and, man...talk about going from bad to worse:
That ain't it, chief. "What the f#*k am I in for now if this is one of the X of 100 limited decks...", I thought. I'll spare you the additional pics posted here and will instead
link you to them.
As you can see, the white deck is by far the worst. What's got me really pissed off, though, is that this is a QA issue. None of the blemishes or damage across these decks was caused from shipping to me. The damage occurred at some point before finally being packed for me. The rest of the decks have a myriad of wonky issues that I feel are completely forgivable for the cost (tuck fold dimensions are slightly off; ink on the tuck stickers for the numbers is thin on some decks, and bold/blotchy on others; minor blemishes on the tuck that you can only see if you have a discerning eye, and so on), but s#!t like the crease in the silver deck, corner ding on the green deck, and, of course, all the issues with the white deck, are unacceptable.
I've messaged them on Kickstarter with the pictures above. I don't expect I'll be hearing anything back from them, but we'll see what happens. I'm not at all confident in their production chain after seeing all this; however, their response to me will determine how I feel overall about them as a company/establishment/etc. If they refund me or can somehow ship another set of decks that are clearly A-OK, on their dime, then that will speak volumes to me. But if it's radio silence or they try to do some stunt like offer me a discount for future purchases:
I'll keep you all posted!
Oh, and before anyone berates me for funding this venture, I'd like to remind you that I'm still quite new to this and I don't know who's who, who all has done what in the past, etc. The marketing got me on this one. Honestly, though, I'd be supremely happy with these if the decks were all in good shape. They do look very, very nice for what they are. Anyway...stay tuned.
