:) I really do like it so much. It is so unique and I totally get what Harvon was talking about with the craziness in the details. I do get that each person has a different aesthetic when it comes to their favorite decks and that's what makes collecting so fun, to hear different takes on things. And I totally respect someones opinion if they didn't like it or liked it but not loved it. But for me, its really amazing and I couldn't be happier to add it to the collection! :ugdance:

I'm truly astonished that no images of the cards have leaked yet! 500 of these things circulating out there and no one's spoiled it yet (at least not far and wide). Would be incredible if that manages to remain the case!

I'm astonished, too. I was getting emails from people saying "it's an amazing idea but it won't last more than a couple of hours after the first packages arrive".
I had the same fear but...

I'll be honest, I was firmly in the camp with those who believed it would be within a day. I had my pitchfork all sharpened and I was prepared to form a band of vigilantes. I made shirts.

I am happy to see that collectors have respected your unusual request and it adds to the legend that is C R Y P T.

I’ve been thinking about this phenomenon too. I think it’s a mix of group/systemic dynamics and basic drive to seek reward and avoid punishment. The playing card community is relatively small; the number of people who bought Crypt smaller still. My guess is that Crypt owners (even that sounds cool!) are driven by a positive pull and a negative push-

Positive = maintain the mystery, increases curiosity around a premium deck, boosts desirability and thus market value; psychological payoff “I’m part of an exclusive owners club” - feels good
Negative = if I violate the covert group rule (don’t disclose) community tribe is small, I’ll be outed and shamed/rejected from the group (core innate fear)

Interesting Baconwise’s joke about pitchforks, whether intentionally or not, reflects the latter sentiment pretty powerfully. Interesting stuff.

Neither childish elitism nor the keyboard outrage of mostly internet randos are stopping me from posting pictures of this deck.
I simply respect a simple request of a humble Greek playing card wizard 🙂.

I already mentioned way back when, but the majority will never open the deck anyway so wouldn't have any photos to share! Particularly if they want to sell, so I had no doubt the secrecy would last a while and I'm happy to see that's the case. Of course just one rotten egg could have spoiled it and still could, but if that happens we can re-enact the walk of shame from GOT, only instead of throwing vegetables and faeces we throw cards and give them a thousand paper cuts. There are still many who complain about the secrecy because they don't want to buy it before seeing it and to them I say, just forget about it because it's not for you and not everything should be catered to your entitlement, nobody cares if you buy it or not lol.

I would have left them open to chuckle at the pitchfork comments before removing them 🙂.
I love the sweet irony that without UC I would have never found that crypt post. I like the choosen background, it contrasts the cards well.

Thus far folks had been courteous about not showing it off. The deck was released and sent to purchasers two months ago, if someone hasn't opened their copy by now they're not likely to do so and it's not going to ruin their experience at this point. So, I guess, someone decided to show some snaps of a deck they purchased. *gasp* HEAVEN FORBID! Quick demonize them for doing whatever they like with a deck they own. This is nonsense.

It's not shameful. They bought the thing they can do whatever they damn well please with it. That's the privilege they get when they purchase the thing, any thing. Not the actions of a loser. I don't know where this "reported it" nonsense comes from. Honestly, this whole thing at this point is beyond stupid, it's pathetic. A symptom of this candy ass world we live in where people think they can dictate what others do with their own property. One would think that the card collecting community is better than this. Apparently it isn't but it damn well should be.

Whoever posted pics if you read this. Your money is part of what makes these things able to be produced. It's money that comes form your pocket that makes this hobby what it is. ENJOY the decks you buy. If that means snapping photos and showing them off, by all means do it.
TL:DR It's completely up to you.

Sure, and kill the creators idea, why not? It's not like that's disrespectful, right?
Lotrek wrote: Sat Nov 30, 2019 3:37 pm This is an idea I was playing around with long ago but the details (including the name) came to me suddenly in the middle of the night 3 days ago! It was like an epiphany.

It is completely secret and nothing will be revealed by me. Preferably by anyone, ever. Imagine a deck that nobody can see unless they own it. No pictures posted in the web, only reactions and discussions about it. A treasure for those they own it, a legend for those they don't.

Funny to talk about respect/disrespect while posting what again earlier in this thread? 🤔
You can only demand from others what you're willing to give! I guess it'll take some more centuries until everyone on our cosy planet got that memo. Astonishing though seeing that everthing else gets viral so fast these days.

Crusaders spotted.

So, judging by the same logic being defended above, anyone who paid and purchase a DVD or Blue-Ray of a film holds the right to freely distribute and upload the film entirely online, be it public domains like YouTube, Vimeo, etc. then?

Of course, one may argue that CRYPT wasn't copyrighted so there is no legal obligation to follow. However, in the world of art, it is out of respect towards creators that the audiences would follow the methods and means proposed by the creators to experience the art to the fullest, including the thought process. Anyone who decides to go against these guidelines publicly is changing the narrative of the artwork. Therefore, they will highly likely draw criticism from those who WANT to enjoy the art according to what was originally intended by the creator. It's just a natural counterbalance.

So speaking of freedom of use after purchase, yeah, anyone can go ahead and post if they like. Yet, since Instagram has the report and comment function, according to the same "Rights to free use" criterion, people who don't like it have the right to detest, condemn, and report such an action. The argument that consumers dictate creators once the art is paid for is just another sad proof of toxic consumerist mindset.

I am sad to see that the inevitable actually happened and the photos were leaked - by an account created today, no less. Talk about bravery.

I saw some folks around the interwebs defending the leak as doing a favor to the community and to those who aren't comfortable buying a deck sight unseen. Why would those people who missed the sale be any more important than those of us who bought the deck, sight unseen from the drop? WE understood it was part of the experience created by Lotrek. We didn't have photos - only the reputation to go by.

If you bought this deck, either directly or on the secondary market, you absolutely have the right to do what you please with your property. It's important to remember that fact. However, the annoyance I have is that this was a unique request by a creator well-known for delivering incredible experiences. While I got to experience the thrill of a complete mystery, these photos will tarnish the experience for another collector who might just be learning about the mad scientist from Greece.

This isn't about consumer rights. This is about respect for the community and for Lotrek as an artist. This breach of trust just feels wrong.

This sub-human has been creating alternate accounts just to keep trying to post the photos on reddit, they specifically mentioned hiding the number so the original buyer won't be blacklisted because they're fully aware of how wrong it is. They are the definition of a troll with zero respect for Lotrek or the community and anyone defending their actions is just as pathetic. There are some great points being made explaining why it's wrong, but it's wasted on those too dumb to see or understand those points in the first place. That is all I'll say.

I saw the pictures posted on Reddit earlier today (which have since been revoked by the poster)

I purchased the Crypt deck myself. And I was surprised to notice that my deck is different in some subtle and some definitely not subtle ways from those posted.

I’m thinking that our benevolent Greek god has a clever and devious streak... maybe all of the Crypt decks are not the same and we vastly underestimate the genius of the master...

I don't see Lotrek being the one who's having a problem with this person posting photos. Do any of you see him name calling, reporting and condemning his customer? I really don't. Nope, What I see is people calling names and acting foolish trying to dictate what another person can or can't do with their deck.

I see people defending abusing a report function, meant to protect children and the most vulnerable among us, to bully another user because they're posting something they don't like. (I don't know having not participated in the images, it may be that they're riddled with all manner of hate messages and various sicko things that a person should be locked up for posting and propagating. It doesn't sound like it though.)

There is no good reason for this kind of behavior, really there isn't. The fabric of time and space will not become undone, there won't be nuclear wars due to this, there are no secret death ray plans being shared. Bullying is wrong, there is no justification for it. Trying to tell someone else what they can or can't do with their deck is wrong. No one would like it if you were on the receiving end of it. There is no Us Vs Them folks. We are all the same.

Opinions about it being good for the community or not. I think that's a reasonable debate to have. This crap that's happening though, I think it's stupid as all hell. I guess some folks need a cause, there's really a whole lot better causes to take up than demonizing a person for posting pictures of their deck of playing cards. Human trafficking, why not try and save a life instead of bullying one?

To be fair, the person reposting the pics now on Reddit isn't even the person who owns the photos. This dude stole the original guys photos on Instagram and is spamming them everywhere
