Decks you own that aren’t worth a crap to anyone but you.
This is a deck I got from an orthopaedic surgical supply company I worked for in the 90’s and I would bet that this deck is only one of a very few left on this miserable vale of tears we all live on... They are complete crap. They’re ugly. They won’t fan. They handle like doo doo. Did I mention they were ugly??
Bill Gates himself doesn’t have enough money to get me to part with them...

I feel like you created this thread just for me, lol. I have a TON of decks like this -- primarily adult-themed decks, obscure decks from Japan (anime/hentai, commercial stuff like Pizza Hut, and more), and stuff like female K-pop band decks. I've been reluctant to post any of what I have along that vein given how controversial those types of decks seem to be to some. I'd love to share that aspect of my collection, but not at the expense of my sanity in potentially having to debate those who have subjective issues with the decks. (I mean that purely from the standpoint of not having the energy to justify why I like what I like. I collect things like this to, in part, give me a respite from the judgment and subjective dot-connecting of others.)

Re: Decks you own that aren’t worth a crap to anyone but you.
Upon my return to the forums this year. I made myself a promise that if I bought a deck and it was close at hand at the end of the week. I'd snap a photo and upload it. Just one copy mind you, but I'm not breaking into a brick box needlessly to do it just for a photo. (Yes I do buy bricks and mixed. It's because of my personality and that I'm not the brightest bulb.) So far minus three decks this has happened (Including my snap of an anime deck I picked up) and it will continue to happen. Of the three decks I did not photo one was a bridge sized deck called VooDoo Tactical. It was a three bucks and I felt like, why not check it out. (I love how terrible it is!)
So if a deck comes in and it's in the right general area. (which of course they are) Then you will see a snap of whatever deck it is. If it's a deck that features long legs so be it. I may get a little creative with a post it note or I may not. Won't know unless I come to that bridge but it'll be included.
(Oh, a caveat as there is to all things. Casino decks from actual casinos. I don't and won't take snaps. They're just not that interesting to anyone other than myself and fellow casino lovers. If a person is a casino lover as I then they already have the thing anyway. I do not search out "rare" and "exotic" casino decks. While the casino's themselves may be those things the playing cards, well, they're simply not.)

I understand entirely. I like some of those sorts of decks as well and I don't really post them either. Same reasons really. It would likely make me angry if someone was judging me because I had a Pizza Hut deck in my collection. (In my case pizza slice deck) Sure I may have felt a little dirty buying it, but it was a thrill and I'd do it again! (Well, maybe not that particular deck. It's pure crap)TheCollector wrote: ↑Mon Sep 07, 2020 3:49 pm I have a TON of decks like this -- primarily adult-themed decks, obscure decks from Japan (anime/hentai, commercial stuff like Pizza Hut, and more), and stuff like female K-pop band decks.

See, this is making me feel a lot better... I just bought a couple of Virginia Slims decks from the 80’s/90’s... not because I’m a smoker or a feminist but because a girl I used to date back in those days smoked them...

Re: Decks you own that aren’t worth a crap to anyone but you.
Just as an aside... my mother grew up in Mississippi in the 30’s & 40’s and my grandmother was strict as all get out. Mom had some original Coca Cola playing cards and my grandmother threw them all away saying (insert maniacal television evangelist voice here) “they’re the tools of SATAN!!!!”.... they’re now worth quite a bit of money nowadays but her religious fanaticism was strong. Unfortunately, living in Mississippi there was a notable part of her thinking that wasn’t affected by her religion, if you get my drift... fortunately for me, my mom was a lot more open minded and raised me better than her experience had been.
That said, I really, REALLY wish I had those cards...

Man, those things are awesome. I have a few V-Slims in my "stash of well-handling decks for the future" along with Ohio Tallies, UV500 Ellusionist decks etc.House of Cardistry wrote: ↑Tue Sep 08, 2020 6:03 am See, this is making me feel a lot better... Re: Decks you own that aren’t worth a crap to anyone but you.
This is what I love about playing cards! It can sometimes take some digging, and other times it falls into your lap, but, by and large, there's a deck of cards out there for so many aspects of your interests, memories, etc.House of Cardistry wrote: ↑Tue Sep 08, 2020 6:03 am...but because a girl I used to date back in those days smoked them...
In fact, here's a neat one for me. You know the David Blaine "Create Magic / Microsoft" deck? Now I, personally, have no interest in collecting David Blaine decks; however, that one is different since I also collect Microsoft memorabilia! In fact, I have perhaps the largest collection of Microsoft pre-release software (beta version of Windows, Microsoft Game Studios games, etc.) outside of the Microsoft Archives, lol. The binders on top of my bookcase as pictured below, house it all -- some 3,000 non-duplicate discs and diskettes:
I recently launched a site where I'll be detailing a lot of my collection.
Anyway, I show you that to exemplify how serious of a collector of that stuff I am. It's what I've been collecting the longest.
Now, enter my interest in playing cards which began just a little over a year ago. Had this not happened, I seriously doubt I would have ever known about that David Blaine deck of cards in relation to his performance on the Microsoft campus where those decks were given away! It's just such a niche event that otherwise went completely unnoticed in the realm of Microsoft as a hobby for folks like me.
So not only is that a highly valuable deck for playing card collectors, it's also that much more awesome and valuable to me as a serious collector of Microsoft stuff! Additionally, I've landed quite a few really neat decks from various Microsoft product launches, corporate events, etc. from around the world.
And to bring this long post full circle in relation to this thread, while plenty of people care about that David Blaine deck, I have a bunch of these other Microsoft decks that I know hardly anyone else would give a hoot about -- which is just fine with me!

Here's a prime example of the types of obscure, brand-related decks from Japan that I just absolutely love, lol.

Re: Decks you own that aren’t worth a crap to anyone but you.
Here is one of the deck which meant for me - Consentino Playing Cards
Basically this deck of playing cards offered as a souvenir after his performance in my country. I bought the deck as soon as the performance ends, and then quickly lines up for a meet n' greet session with him. I come to him and have him signed the Ace of Spades, along with a photo together. The cards are... well... just like those plastic coated cards, though it's not that bad. Seeing this deck brings memories of me watching Consentino's performance back in December 2015.

Playing cards from magic performances always make good memorabilias.
Even if the quality are as low as plastic coated, at least you can used the cards as your autograph papers - get every performers' signatures XD
These kind of cards, they're starter magic prop.

Just a FYI because you're using that term as if it has something to do with quality; plastic coated simply means that the paper stock is coated with a polymer varnish/finish which includes e.g. Bicycle, Bee, EPCC, Cartamundi B9 and C9, ... basically all of the highest quality paper playing cards.laitostarr777 wrote:... the quality are as low as plastic coated, ...
The term was in the past almost always on the tuckbox as well but it isn't common nowadays anymore. I guess to avoid confusion with 100% plastic cards.

That is an interesting set of MS software. When I was in college, I took the first PC class they offered, and the operating system was DOS 1.03.
About that same time, my mom purchased one the first portable computers from Compaq. I think it was their first portable PC, so she could use it both at the office and home. It was the size of a briefcase and weighed like 40 pounds. The screen was of course a small tube screen (green monocrome).

One thing for sure, My Consentino cards doesn't have those small dimples of that Air Cushion finish, and it looked like Tally Ho finish but it's just not that smooth

Decided I'd dig out one of me owns. This deck here has been abused, it's been used and it's seen more far away places than most lives do. It's a deck I adore, it's worth much more to me than cash moneys. While you may be able to get your very own copy of this bridge sized beauty somewhere. This one here be mines.
