Re: Under the Skin Playing Cards
Well, I like what I CAN see. Maybe our resident Murphy's rep will let us know when they're available (and there's more pictures)

I'm curious about due to the tuck. The backs aren't intriguing though.

Re: Under the Skin Playing Cards
Interesting deck, looks like a half brick box is also going to be or is available.
I'm liking what I see of the Pips. Looks solid and I'm probably going to have to have some, the tuck is pretty sharp too. Yep, I'm going to need a little bit of these.

Re: Under the Skin Playing Cards
Well there both available now. So I guess there be at you favourite Murphys retailer soon. There isn't a half brick though from what I can see. Acelion is a new one on me as well, never heard of them before. https://www.acelioncards.com

I've seen that the decks are available on different websites as well but I can't find that half brick box anywhere yet.

Re: Under the Skin Playing Cards
Please stop that right this instant or else I might accidentally develop self-esteem.
My bad, y'all, I dropped a post in a fit of aesthetic pique and walked off thinking I'd have maybe a "wow those are bad and also did you used to go here?" by the time morning rolled around. If I'd known it would raise the general alarum and some no-chill weenus was gonna break the glass on the Emergency Pip within fifteen minutes I would've, like, brought a Carvel cake or something. Please accept instead these heinous affronteries that spit in the very eyes of God.

Re: Under the Skin Playing Cards
This educational programming brought to you by Carvel®
Today you learned that?
Thanks, everyone. Truly humbled by the warm welcome back. I'll try to be better about at least checking in regularly. (If only so I can work my way through the year's worth of deck-horny collectors sliding into my DMs for that Blue Damask I left on my P52 tradelist... )
Well. I was gonna roast these courts some more, but since it turned into a lovefest in here I feel like I'm obligated to pay at least a little of that forward. So here's my very best attempt at being charitable:
Taken in isolation, I could potentially see somebody liking them. Text on courts is a huge design turnoff for many, myself included, but one man's crass faux pas is another's bold experimentalism. The figures are aesthetically crude, but clearly purposefully so; you can see a solid grasp of anatomy and strong visual composition in the spades in particular. The rough, grotesque imagery of varying levels of sophistication in flat black and red reminds me of Tijuana bibles - and people do collect those. Maybe someone out there has been looking for a deck just like this one.
But.
Whether you can present some "legitimate" rationale as to how these courts "belong to" this tuck, from a harmonious design perspective - and I'm not at all convinced you can - you cannot possibly pretend that people drawn to this tuck are buying it and hoping to receive these courts. It's a foundational assumption of consumerism that what's on the box is what's in the box, and everyone knows it: buyers have been trained to expect it, and marketers know they have that expectation. So the decision to have the promotional materials showcase only images that are stylistically consistent with the tuck - and scrupulously avoid giving you a good look at anything else - might strike one as being, let's say, not solely in the interests of artistic integrity.
...or at least, a more cynical soul might believe so. But I, a gentle spirit of pure heart and trusting disposition, can hardly conceive such a thing.

Re: Under the Skin Playing Cards
The colored version does change things doesn't it? Much more interesting to my eye than the Mono version, which just repels me entirely.
