Babylon fontaines by Babylon LA x fontaine

Unread post by Harvonsgard »

Next collab from fontaine and a clothing brand. LA based Babylon brand it is this time. Looks like they are sold in a metal case? πŸ€” No pictures of the cards yet.

Who cares what the cards look like. This is awesome. Bound to be another sellout. Got to get me a few bricks. Love that box, tuck and back. It is a complete rebranding. The color combination is unique and bold. Wow!

Just kidding. Hard pass. Best wishes to those many that love the "f" though.

Update, just for kicks I check out Babylon LA website. Holy S... $36 T-shirts, and that is just getting started.Amazing.

:D I may actually pick up this deck. I'm completely serious. I'm probably going to grab up one, maybe a few bricks. I won't rule that out.

"Fess you nutter! why would you want this deck?" It's the anti-recolor and that cracks me up! It's a great joke. There is a certain amount of genius, yea, I agree with that. I'm still having a chuckle hahaha.

I must say, some of Fontaine’s decks with more custom cards are quite nice. Eg - braindead, ripndip. There’s a good chance there will be some customisation on the cards. Won’t judge too early :)

Seems to be an inverted version of the old Black fontaines. Maybe black face cards?

I agree, not a big Fontaine collector. Only deck I have is the floral one. That being said I haven't seen anything like this out there and it does look clean

Well there goes another Fontaine Deck, now is luring people with the UV patterns
I predict the aftermarket would sold around $150 - $200

I highly doubt it. Most of their collaboration decks are either 5,000 or 10,000 print runs.
The only fontaines that have a aftermarket price above 100$ are Red OG, 500 and Gold gilded Carrot V3 (which had already a retail price of 100$.

Yep, I'm gonna get me some a this. I don't care if 25,000 are printed, don't care about his opinions on whatever is going on in the world, don't care what his favorite shoe brand is or any of that. I dig this version of the deck and that video sealed the deal. :D This one, oh yea, it's a win. ;)

I agree that it's pretty cool, but practically speaking, I'm not going to bother with a blacklight pen or lamp whenever I want to enjoy a deck. The blacklight is also an added cost, and will end up in a box or drawer collecting dust because it's too much of a hassle compared to just picking up, say, any foiled deck.

Probably a neat deck for cardists that make videos though.

This is Fontaine we're talking about - decks that priced so crazy aftermarket. As you said that Red had priced 100$, this latest one has an UV hidden element, so I am pretty sure of my estimation.
What's next for Fontaine? Try to collaborate with Louis Vuitton? If they do, then the aftermarket price for that deck would be 300$

Good luck hunting for these in the aftermarket. Already seen Socal Playing Cards listing each deck at $28, limited to 2 per person. Fontaine fans consider Socal the place where the decks are sold "cheap"; let's see how the prices would go in other places.

The decks were 20 each plus taxes plus shipping, which ends up to be more than 8 bucks if you only got the single deck and single tin. If you were lucky enough to get the brick, it would have probably been around 3 extra per deck or 23 a deck.

The fact that Henry drove to LA and waited in line for hours with his wife for only 2 bricks and is only marking the decks up to 28 is very reasonable. He actually isn’t making much off each deck, so I would consider a Henry’s decks reasonably priced, if not cheap compared to the other resellers in the market. Ymmv :D

True, thanks for chipping in about all factors of the cost. I'm quite sure though that other resellers would not be so merciful with the price gouging. In fact, let's check eBay right now :geek:

I'm scratching my head here, I find I'm a little confused by the last few posts. That quote is just to get your attention. Are you making some kind of point about this deck in particular? Have an issue with the folks who want to pick up a few of these Babylon fontaines? Want to have a rant in general about marketing practices and the aftermarket of playing cards? I'm not quite following what it is exactly. Don't get me wrong, I love that you're having a go. I really enjoy opinions. I'm just curious what it is you're wanting to have a go at.

The question is who in the norm is capable to get this kind of drop by Fontaine? Apparently it's the resellers and the people using bots who can. Then the price shoots up. Like I've already said, I have no problem with folks who want to buy into this marketing practice, but if they want to, soak it all up and don't be a crybaby when one needs to pay hideous prices for these brands. And crybabies are what a lot of those followers who can't get a deck are being atm. After all, all this craze is generated by the followers themselves.
