Every Day decks
Even in a bit of the doldrums playing cards relax me and make me smile. I know a lot of you are like me and tend to carry a deck with you every where you go. I'd love to know what other folks have been using in their weekly rotations or just the decks they've been using most. So if you wouldn't mind inspiring me and sharing a smile. Would you mind sharing with me the decks you've been using most lately?
Here's what mine has been for the summer. Fuego! Tally-Ho Blue Circle Backs Grotesk Macabre Realms Whirl. and Red NoCs
(Sometimes I draw on the back of the NoCs too. Secret, don't tell anyone)
Constant desk deck for the past few years has always been a Liberty Standard deck. Red or Blue, current is blue.
(Sometimes I customize the face cards with a black pen. Again, shhhh, don't tell anyone.)

This week, black cherries, black parlour. Always on the desk, Bicycle No17. Although I am getting real low on these again.

Remedies and Bicycle Hesslers Riderback lately. Cherry Casino Tahoe Blues and Reno Reds - hated them out of the box but broken in - are as well in the rotation.

Re: Every Day decks
As new as I am to cardistry my everyday decks are Bicycles. I have the regular 808βs in red, blue and black and a couple of the Da Vinciβs plus a few others. I also have a deck of theory11 Medallions, some Svngali Sky Islands and a deck of Virts (FW2017). I have a few other decks that will be arriving this week including some blue Monarchs, Navigators and I went ahead and pre-ordered the upcoming Virts also. Iβve learned to buy a few decks of each and keep them sealed. I havenβt bothered to open any of the βgoodβ cards (except for the Medllions) yet. Until I can get some sort of handle on the Bicycles I donβt see any reason to ruin cards that cost 3 to 5 times as much... the Medallions I opened up just to see if there was a real difference between them and the everyday Bicycles....
Spoiler Alert!!!!
There is. Iβm just not good enough to make the most of the difference yet though. If you check out the videos I posted on YouTube youβll totally understand what Iβm saying!

Re: Every Day decks
Bikes are me second most used decks. Every deck of cards is a little different based upon many small factors but I love bikes they're almost all fantastic. Very few exceptions.House of Cardistry wrote: βSun Aug 16, 2020 7:08 pm As new as I am to cardistry my everyday decks are Bicycles. ../.. (The above mentioned RT gold labels and Penguin elite editions, wonderful truly.)
If you're killing decks (spending too much time cleaning cards too) and have access to any big box shops, consider some of the less expensive brands. Some are great for a little while and by then it doesn't matter so much. Maverick's can often be found less than a buck for example. Those are the go to decks when I'm helping someone learn to shuffle better of that sort of thing. They're bouncy and can stand up to some abuse (monkey thumb abuse even! but not forever) while inexpensive enough it doesn't matter if the dog eats a brick of the things and you can pick up card throwing as a second hobby when they're reaching end of life. Toss um out, literally.
There are some other brands that are also pretty inexpensive and will get the job done at big box stores. Dollar stores have some pretty useful decks too. Walgreens carries Theory 11 decks and some CPC designs as well as their house brand. Just saying you can taste a bit of the rainbow with a trip to town. No need to wait on shipping, nor break the bank on learners etc.
TL:DR It's completely up to you.

Re: Every Day decks
My current daily decks, which my kids and I use to play card games as part of the bedtime routine, are currently: Superior Rainbow (by CARC) and Green Paisley Christmas Deck (by Dutch something something). We might end up swapping in a Legal Tender V2 for grins.
For excellent cheap decks, you can pick up a brick of Bikes at Costco for about $16. Ellusionist right this moment is having a sale on some of their decks for just a few bucks per deck.

Re: Every Day decks
Today is Friday and that's fun so Fuego! is my deck of choice for the day. Sunday I'm making a little change though.
I've been feeling like maybe I'm a little harder on the faux aged cards than I should be. So I'm going to do something about it and explore it yet again. I've decided to set my summer decks aside for a week and carry the most faux aged deck I could easily think of Bicycle Vintage Classics. (Old parchment you say? Noes, that's just over cooked.) I'm going to commit to a solid five days with just this deck, well two copies of it anyway. This is by far the longest I'll have spent with some faux aged. I don't know if it's going to be a week of mind blowing change in my opinion of faux aged or a week of "why do I do these things to myself". I like the card back so it could go either way.

Re: Every Day decks
TL:DR = it was a rough week of only Vintage Classics.
After I used the Vintage classics deck for five and a half days. I have some thoughts that I decided I'd share. Day one was rough it started out just after the Indy 500 came to a close under the caution flag. I decided I would get a jump on the week and popped a fresh deck of vintage classics, VC's from here on. I was quickly reminded of my two favorite cards from the deck and they remain my favorites for good reason, I like them best in this deck. The Ad card and the Double backer.
If I didn't like the card back I don't think I could have gotten through the whole five days. I didn't want to use it on day two, not at all. I forced myself to. Day three was just as bad and by the end of the day my already cracked sanity was starting to fight with the deck. It was starting to be a force of wills with the VC's wanting to win and not be used anymore. They wanted to relax in their tuck box and sit on a shelf you see. I wouldn't allow it, I didn't even let them sleep in their tuck. I stuck a loaded piggy bank on them for the night.
The next morning I found that I had started to adapt my use of the deck so as to stop looking at the card faces. It was, interesting, since I don't usually tend to do that. It was interesting as I just started doing a whole lot of Lennart Green style, washing finding the aces type of deal. I ended up using way to much space and irritating my fat cat since she had to lay at the far end of the table inside of in the middle. But here's the thing, I started having fun with the deck. It took a few days but I started to appreciate what the deck was bringing into my world. I got two days of pleasure after I quite battling with the style of the cards. In some strange way I kind of felt like a kid again.
"Are you over your dislike of faux distressing on cards Fess?" My favorite cards in this deck remain The Ad card and the Double backer so the answer is absolutely not. I still don't like faux aging, faux wear, faux distress. Not even remotely. I don't loath it as I did before but I certainly do not appreciate it. Faux aging and faux wear is just fauxriculas and I wish folks would exiling it into the realm of the fauxed off.
I'm happy to be back to my summer decks (At least for a few more days. September changes the rotation.) with Grotesk on use for the day.

Re: Every Day decks
Glad you made it through the week. Luckily I don't own faux aged decks so I could never bring such challenge on me.
Since the summer is slowly ending where I live, I decided to put Ravn Sol into the rotation starting today.
I was going through my decks and since I only used Bee stock USPCC decks lately, I figured some Superlux stock with C9 finish from Cartamundi would be a welcome alternative.

Re: Every Day decks
Every day deck means every day destruction so I mostly use Standard or Riderback Bicycles and Copag 310. That's quality/price ratio which noone can beat really. I usually buy bricks of these so they last me for long time. From time to time I go to my shelf and pick some finer deck to play with.

Supreme Line Bikes are rad. Super thin though, not for everyone.

Re: Every Day decks
How would you compare them to Cohorts or Compag slimlines? I canβt imagine a card thinner than the Cohorts, honestly. I will say though, that after two days of almost constant handling (springs, riffle fans and Le Paul spreads, or at least as reasonable a facsimile as I can currently muster, lol!!) the Cohorts are holding up just fine.Harvonsgard wrote: βSat Aug 29, 2020 1:33 pm Supreme Line Bikes are rad. Re: Every Day decks
I currently don't have a deck of Supreme lines laying around so, I can't compare/measure them regarding their thickness. They feel pretty different. Supreme Line feel more papery if that makes sense to you. And they feel more air-ish than Cohorts.
I'm not a fan of the Cohorts though so my verdict would always favour the Supreme line bikes.
When it comes to card feel there're in my opinion only two buddies that you can trust for a verdict - your left and your right hand.

Canβt be said any better than that. Like most anything else, tastes and preferences are very personal and if YOU like something, regardless of what anyone else thinks or says... itβs right for YOU.

Re: Every Day decks
I'm curious what Supreme lines feel like as well. Haven't an opportunity to get me paws on a deck yet. I should do sooner than later though. I prefer Penguin Elite Editions over Richard Turner Gold Labels out of the box but I prefer both of them over most off the shelf bikes. Honestly, bikes are a great deck out of the box and I enjoy them just fine. After four hundred shuffles or so (10 - 15 minutes of playing with um) they're pretty much all fantastic.

Lol!!! I know that EXACT feeling! No lie, I have probably dropped upwards of $500 since I joined here on cards and instructional downloads... money well spent but good grief, man.... I gotta slow down!! I have several shipments scheduled to show up this week and next, depending on how quickly Kingβs Wild gets my order together and in the mail...

Re: Every Day decks
I'm changing things up. Here's me list September use. One deck I don't think will last the whole month. Time will tell.
Medieval, I really like this black and white version. I think it shows off the art quite well and is my preferred version.
Bicycle Neoclassic, it's perhaps my second favorite Whaam designed deck and I really enjoy the quirky pips and fun courts.
Aquila Standard, I like the solid pips on this version for the month. A very worth while deck, have a peek.
Paper Kings, I feel like some good bright colors. This deck handles really well for me so it's fun. I like fun.
GamaGo Pizza I usually want some Pizza in the middle of the week. We'll see how it works out.
(Box is a bit too big to really pocket carry though)
California hotel and casino casino 08 Green deck. The fires are horrible. I'd prefer and end to the drought in the west and Cali being green.
Rounding out my list are Blue NoC's V3. The V3's in particular. These things take a serious beating and don't give a damn. Damp microfiber cloth in the nukerwave for 11 seconds to clean them. (Be gentle wiping them down Microfiber is abrasive.) Loaded Piggy bank for a card press over night and they're right back in business. (No they don't recover from being shot with arrows, BB's or .22 bullets. They also don't handle darts or knives so well. They are a pretty good replacement when you discover that your Banshees are all busted to hell and you want to have fun with a cork board. Just gotta make the sound yourself.)

Re: Every Day decks
GamaGo Pizza deck is removed from the list and has been removed from any further use by one, Me, at any time in the future. It's just really not a good deck for anything really, at all. I struggled with it a week ago and I knew better but I figured I'd do some slight modification and see if I couldn't improve it. Naa, not worth the effort. I'm using it to start the charcoal now. Sure it's an extra step that I don't need to do but I feel like it's a fitting end for this deck in particular. I considered donating (gifting) it to someone else but I don't know anyone I dislike that much. In the end lighting charcoal with it was the best solution.
Replacing it with a Asteroid. That's a one spicy meatball!
(I can't think of a better time to use the carbonizing meatball deck than to replace the now charcoal lighting pizza deck)
I like the pips!

Re: Every Day decks
I switched it up a few days ago. I thought I gotta give the old phat Superlux stock a chance again and put one of the few Cartamundi B9 decks I own into my rotation - Axolotl. Fun deck that I backed first, but then backed out, due to B9 finish, before the campaign ended. Pleasant surprise when it landed on my doorstep for free, haha.
I've pulled out an old blue seal Bee as well, to counter the soft Cartamundi deck.

Re: Every Day decks
Changed up my Every Day decks for October. Here they are in no particular order.
I only have a half a brick so gentle use for this deck but King of Tigers GOLD because they are amazing! The end of the month will most likely see me buy more. If you haven't picked any up, get some. KoT's must be experienced, they feel really good.
Making a return to the line up Grotesk Macabre Original Edition. I like the copper foil on the tuck. I don't usually use it in the summer like I did this year. (I just felt like it) Grotesk is one of my favorite decks for October due to the creepy vibe.
Bicycle Majesty get slotted in this month because, I like them! I like almost everything about them. The color's great, the bold transition is fantastic. Purple is a good October color.
It's fair season in the states. It makes me think of odd attractions and Sideshow I love this deck. I'm down to only four copies that are still sealed but I'll combine a fresh deck (in deck case) with gentle use and pocket a used and abused deck for.. .
Cards and beer are great together. Bicycle Craft Beer great deck and well suited for my October line up. Why? Price! This is a user and I'm using it. Octoberfest yum.
Me Halloween deck has been the same for years and it ain't about to change this year. Eerie Limited edition version in purple. The only day of the year I use this deck, Halloween. Usually make a big deal out of it but this year is the rona so, it'll be quiet use.
My desk deck hasn't changed, bout due for a color swap though not this month. I'll just clean it.

Re: Every Day decks
Decided to jettison the Craft beer deck from the EDC list this month. (Used it three times and only drank once so something more fun is going in it's place.)
Whilst I was perusing the ole film library I saw Shutter Island and thought to myself, "Self, you're going to kick out the craft beer deck why not add a little Nanswer to the list? Maybe a Little Island?" So I am doing just that. Me swaps out the craft beer for the infamous or famous depending on your point of view. Little Island! Some folks don't care for Little Island, they may not get it or they may just choose to overlook it. Personally I think it's a great deck and I enjoy it. I like most of Eric's decks.
Today I'm carrying this wonderful deck. Pic is of the back of the tuck because the very simple mistake in uploads to the printer has become endearing and I love the deck more for it. (It's Sideshow btw)

Re: Every Day decks
Tally Ho circle backs. I buy them by the brick. Always have 2 decks on me. I have a deck that has travel with my to over 20 countries. The tuck is beat to hell and held together with packing tape, and the cards are still buttery smooth.

Re: Every Day decks
King of Tigers Gold is now in my daily rotation. Really, really like the feel of this deck (plus, of course, the shiny of the backs). Coming to dislike the indices, however. The 5s are difficult to read sometimes.
More additions to my daily rotation are pending.

Re: Every Day decks
In anticipation for the 2020 deck I've decided to put this beauty back in the rotation. 2014 Bee stock builds up finger strenght .

Re: Every Day decks
Update on the EDC front.
Since the recent mailday brought some new decks into the house the current rotation goes as follows:
β’ Fulton's October v2 - old (2010s) Bee stock is just nukeproof
β’ Uranium52 - I gotta test those Liquorice Press cards
β’ Fontaine Raspberry - A Taiwan printed deck a day keeps the doctor at bay
β’ Testament - for the Sunday service
β’ Venemous - awesome batch of chrushed retail stock; very buttery
β’ Chiaroscuro - great art + USPC stock = double win
β’ Cherry Casino Tropicana Teal - gotta have some around
β’ Glyph - awesome batch of premium crushed stock
