OATH'S PATREON -details

Unread post by Lotrek »

Hi all,

After a lot of thought, we officially announce the OathPCC Patreon! Our page will be launched on the 1st of September.

By becoming a Patron you’re essentially contributing to the creation of decks that need a huge amount of time in design and production. Your help will be crucial in our effort to produce some decks that will be even more artistically elaborate and unique than what you’ve seen from Oath so far.

1st tier: $5/month –“Patrons”: /b]You will be getting our love, updates regarding upcoming decks, exclusive previews, production updates etc. Note that these updates won’t be too regular because Lotrek is involved and… you know. However, we’ll try to make them as regular as possible.

2nd tier: $25/month “Silver Patrons”: You will be getting the above plus 2 copies of one of the year’s decks printed in an exclusive color that won’t be available to non- patrons. For example, if Silk was to be printed in 2021, Silver Patrons would get 2 copies of the deck printed in Silver foil.

3rd tier: $45/month “Golden Patrons”: You will be getting all the above (1st and 2nd tiers) plus 2 copies of PATRONS playing cards, a deck that will be designed and produced exclusively for Oath Patrons. It’s a bold move to announce and produce a luxury, high-end deck without knowing how many would engage themselves in becoming patrons but we wanted to reward those who will eventually do it, offering something really special and highly collectible. This deck will be strictly available to Patrons and no begging, crying or swearing will bring any result for non-patrons.

The number of Patrons for the Silver and Golden tiers is unlimited but of course will close at the end of September.

Thank you,
Lotrek

P.S.: I'm not sure if this topic belongs here, I guess it does since it technically announces a new deck but if moderators believe it should be under a different thread, feel free to move it.

It doesn't; that's what your company thread or general section is for.

That said, count me in 😅!

Lotrek, you mentioned that for Gold Patrons we would get two decks that are exclusive to Patreon backers. Can Gold Patrons purchase more than the two they get as Gold Patrons? Can Silver Patrons or regular patrons purchase them? I am just trying to get clarification...for my dog. He wants to know.

$540 a year for a few very rare decks is not worth it for me but the rest of you, enjoy!

If that's how it works then you're proving my point- $135 per deck (only 2 unique decks) is too rich for my blood.

I guess it depends on what you consider unique. I would consider a different foil combination a separate deck. I am thinking Icons reverse, Ambassador Platinum, Arabesque Silver, etc. So, it is not exactly the same as the regular issue. That said, I do get your point.

Is the price too much? For some, sure. However, I would rather give the money to Lotrek than a reseller, so I am in. Consider it a payment plan if that helps you swallow the fee. Anyway, there are several willing to jump in already. I am also super glad I don't have to have fast fingers.

I'm not going to chime in about the quality vs quantity vs uniqueness debate that this (patreon year cost) can enable. I'll just say that I hope this frees up some options for Lotrek and he's able to push himself as he chooses to accomplish wonderful things. :)
TL:DR It's completely up to you.

This is what I am going to tell my wife, “Honey, do you remember how last time I told you I would be donating money to some nice folks in Texas and help feed some families there? And once a while they send me a token of gratitude? There is another in Greece I want to help. You don’t mind, right?”

Of course, that is just a joke. I am not going to tell my wife anything.

Yeah. No kidding.

As I went back and reviewed the tiers, I think we are having the value of the tiers a bit wrong.

The base fee of $5/month is to participate in Lotrek's Patreon. No deck rewards. The incremental extra cost of $20/month is for two decks of a special variety of a deck Lotrek produces during the next year ($120 per deck on a monthly layaway). The next $20/month incremental cost is for two special decks just for his Patreon backers ($120 per deck on a monthly layaway).

Again, keep in mind that Lotrek started the description with "By becoming a Patron you’re essentially contributing to the creation of decks that need a huge amount of time in design and production. Your help will be crucial in our effort to produce some decks that will be even more artistically elaborate and unique than what you’ve seen from Oath so far." I think that gets back to the main purpose. :ugdance:

Don't get lost in calculations, multiplying and dividing to find a price per deck. Patreon isn't a way to get decks through monthly installments -although you can see it like this.
Primarily it's a contribution to help the making of exquisite stuff that needs a lot of time in planning, researching and designing. In return, you're getting exclusive stuff but what really counts is that you will see decks that without your help would be very difficult -or impossible- to bring into life. That said, if you feel that $25 or $45 per month is too much, you can just select the $5 tier which is really nothing but if we collect many nothings they become something and this is equally appreciated!

As I joked before, Oath Playing Cards is officially now a monthly "bill". I'm going for the Gold! :D

All this right here! This is also a way to show support for an artist & true craftsman. No disrespect to anyone else creating playing cards out there, because I love so many. But this is not someone who creates images and hands it over for someone else to produce. This man is in it when the ink/foil hits the paper. If you appreciate his work, show him some love and don’t worry about what you’re gonna get in return. The world needs less Jerry’s Nuggets and more of this kind of support right here.
