Just launched my 1st Kickstarter (probably PG13) - South Beach Playing Cards
Hi my name is Craig. I just launched my first deck.
It's a fully marked deck. It has custom Aces, Courts, and Jokers. And I got my artwork approved by USPCC. The prototypes I got from MPC look really good, so I'm excited to see how these come out if the campaign funds.
I know you all see new decks all the time, so I really am interested in what you think. It just hit 10% of the funding, so I'm excited.

Tuck Box: Topless girl silhouetteproject creator wrote:I didn't want this deck to be just a novelty deck with some pretty girls on it.
Card Back: Thong Song
Court Cards (Queens and Jacks): Boobs and Buttcheeks
Aces: Shapely Silhouettes
Jokers: Thong Song pt. 2
Heart Pips: Thong Song pt. 3
I get that this deck is probably a good representation of what South Beach is like, but let's not pretend this is anything other than a T&A deck. All of the subjects are anonymous so the only salient feature is going to be dat ass or dem boobies or those muscles on the dudes.
"But why male models?"

Re: South Beach Playing Cards
I don't mind the subject matter, it's sensible for a beach setting. But the courts have no color, and if there's one thing I would expect from South Beach Miami, it's color. I'm guessing the profusion of butts and blank faces belies a lack of ability to draw more.

Re: South Beach Playing Cards
There is absolutely a market for beach body silhouette marked playing cards with bumbum pips and whale tail jokers. Unfortunately that market doesn't have access to spending money on Kickstarter unless their parent does it for them. That market doesn't have credit cards either.
This must be one of those passion projects. Like, "When I grow up I'ma design a deck of beach body silhouette marked playing cards with bumbum pips and whale tail jokers!" kind of determination from the creators inner junior high self. He's turning it into a reality so I think that's very cool! I mean, he could have just stopped at making a prototype deck and been all "Dream accomplished!" but he's shooting for the stars and brought this glorious deck to Kickstarter. I for one love the enthusiasm. Even backed one other campaign at some point! Cool.
I continue to take a look at the offering and I'm not opposed to the tuck at all. I like it. Actually, I like it in three's best. While it doesn't scream beach to me personally, I do like it. Overall I'd say this is grand, just grand... ZOMG! There's a parrot on the 5oD! I'm so in.

TL:DR It's completely up to you.
We can still be friends.
I actually like playing cards.
We live in interesting times.

Merged threads after approving the creator's first post here.

Really do enjoy the feedback. I don't have time to comment any further at the moment. I'm at work. Just wanted to come back, so you didn't think I just posted this for exposure, and then ran away. I'll post again when I get home.

Re: South Beach Playing Cards
I think the theme is nice- South Beach is definitely unique enough to have it's own cards. I also really like the back. I don't love it because I think it just needs to be tightened up somehow. I like the flower and turtle but they seem a little arbitrary. However the color scheme is perfect. Which is why I hate the tuck. While the tuck does match the style of the aces I say lose them both. Pink and black are a nice, somewhat beachy combo but I say go with the back colors. The pink and black just look like they should belong on another deck.
I don't mind the silhouettes but I wish they were 2-way, more traditional courts and not on the aces at all. Again, I think the aces need to be a little more traditional. Maybe Art Deco-y like all the hotels down there? I like the little drawings on the spot cards, not so much the quadriptych octopus, but they all need to be non-full bleed. The heart pips should not all be asses, rather one of the little "Easter egg" drawings on a spot card perhaps. One out of four suits having thongs doesn't fit.
I think a lot of work needs to be done here but I think it's got potential. I doubt I will see all or even some of the changes I suggested above but I hope I do because I love beach-themed decks and the printer (USPCC). I wish the artist luck but if this project doesn't fund I hope it's redesigned with some of my proposed adjustments!

Re: South Beach Playing Cards
I just hit 22% funded, So I'm excited about that.
@ BaconWise ---"let's not pretend this is anything other than a T&A deck."
Clearly I'll give you that this is a pretty cheeky deck, but I didn't want it to be just that. I wanted a good stock and finish, so that it will actually feel and handle good. It's definitely a niche deck, but it works for me. BTW the Thong Song is so tired down here. You should come visit, just don't go around humming that song. lol
@Outsider ---"I'm guessing the profusion of butts and blank faces belies a lack of ability to draw more."
You're half right. I can draw faces (I'm horrible at teeth though) but my problem is I need to draw from a picture.
And then I run into copyright problems.
@Fes ---"This must be one of those passion projects. This whole paragraph killed me. I just turned 50 last Saturday and I am definitely well connected to my "junior high self."
@vasta41 I really liked this feedback. For instance, the heart pip just being an "easter egg" somewhere. I like that. I would do the same with the spades which are currently a sharks tooth. I originally wanted all custom pips, that were still the shape of the classic pips. But everything else I tried I wasn't happy with. I tried doing the courts 2 way, but I couldn't get them where I liked them.

Re: South Beach Playing Cards
nessigator, welcome to UC. There's alot of brutal, blunt critique and it's really cool to see you taking all the posts in such a light manner. It's always hard for 1st timers to enter KS now with KS being saturated with so many projects and the current economic climate makes it even harder.
Yours does stand out for taking on such a different theme. Not for me due to many of the reasons mentioned, but hope you find your fanbase in that area. Even if it doesn't, don't give up. Let's see what you can come up with.

I simply have absolutely no interest in this deck whatsoever.
