Royales by Kings & Crooks
New one coming July 28 from Lee McKenzie, don't know much about it. Promises something big for backers during first 24 hours.

Lee designed some of the first decks I ever purchased, Arcane, Artifice etc. Great artist, very interested in seeing more.

Re: Royales by Kings & Crooks
I was in when I saw Lee McKenzie, now I am SO in. Still love my Empire decks. Is this his first deck since Outlaws?
I haven't slept for ten days, because that would be too long.

Re: Royales by Kings & Crooks
I can't really tell that much from those photos, but it looks like another deck suffering from "T11 syndrome". I.e. great blinged-out tuck box, decent backs that disappoint because they pale in comparison to the box. Even if the backs have metallic inks, which I can't tell, I feel like they fall short for me.
That said, the back design is well-designed, and I love the thin borders. But I have enough of detailed monochrome decks in my collection already. Really hoping that we'll see some more pictures that prove me wrong, though!

And I thought I was the only one thinking "T11" when I saw the deck...

Re: Royales by Kings & Crooks
I'm there with bells on, np. I don't think there is ever a down side to a detailed card back and I don't think T11 has the market locked up on any form of playing card or tuck box. Outlaw was also a very detailed card back and tuck. It feels like he's liking that and is going to continue with this deck. Personally, no problem with it at all. From what I see, it looks like a solid design and I'm excited to see more.

Re: Royales by Kings & Crooks
I swung and missed on MetalLuxe for the King Arthur deck (not my fault due to misleading advertising but I digress) but I'm pretty sure this is MetalLuxe since Lee says all cards will be printed by the USPCC and "All of the Aces are beautifully embellished with enlarged decorated pips and metallic foil." Unless I'm reading that wrong? Odd that the word "MetalLuxe" isn't mentioned once throughout the project page... At least there will be no conflict with VXD.
I'm in for "two" decks but really one thanks to that amazing 24 hour free deck promotion. For $24, shipped I'm a very happy camper!

Re: Royales by Kings & Crooks
I'm glad that the decks turn out better than I've expected after the teaser. Lee and I seem to have a pretty different working definition of fully custom courts though.
I like the back of the Players ed. very much. Overall a very good deck.

so for some reason it isn't pulling up on KS for me. I had to manually look up Lee McKenzie and select it.

It's gold ink and foil on courts, Aces, and number cards, not Metalluxe.
Move on, nothing to see here.

Re: Royales by Kings & Crooks
Since when has USPCC incorporated foil without it being called MetalLuxe? Looking for previous examples. Sorry, feeble minded- I'm very confused.RichK wrote: ↑Tue Jul 28, 2020 2:00 pmI did same, buy Limited get Classic free.vasta41 wrote: ↑Tue Jul 28, 2020 1:28 pmI swung and missed on MetalLuxe for the King Arthur deck (not my fault due to misleading advertising but I digress) but I'm pretty sure this is MetalLuxe since Lee says all cards will be printed by the USPCC and "All of the Aces are beautifully embellished with enlarged decorated pips and metallic foil." So I don't think it's Metalluxe. What is MetalLuxe™?
It’s a proprietary technology that allows playing cards to carry a stamped metal application while keeping a long-lasting, playable, and extremely durable finish. This durable, high quality, premium application is achieved by first printing the card back, then applying a signature foil application. Then to ensure top quality, a customized coating for protection and durability is applied and then the Bicycle® brand classic Air-Cushion™ finish is applied.
MetalLuxe™ outperforms any other foil application because it is four times more durable, 30% more flexible, and has a premium Air-Cushion™ finish for superior handling. These elements combined ensure long-lasting, flake-free performance with every deck.
Move on, nothing to see here.

Re: Royales by Kings & Crooks
I think that line is a mistake. He mentions metallic inks all over the place and only foil for tuck boxes. They're metallic inks, not foil on the cards from what it looks like on the images. I think it's safe to go by the most commented upon rather than go on the one slipped up line. This however is just my opinion. All of the Aces are beautifully embellished with enlarged decorated pips and metallic foil
I think for further clarification, just ask Lee himself. I'm sure he'd be happy to answer and clear up any fog.

I'm in of course I am. These renders are in a word gorgeous. I love that he's offering a free deck to first day supporters. Kindness it's a big deal, I hope this becomes a trend from other creators too but I find that doubtful there is only one Lee McKenzie after all. In the time of pandemic this is a very, very cool thing to do for the card lovers of the world. I offer a humble tip of the hat and a heartfelt Thank you in response. It is things like this along with the design of the decks that make me wish I could go in heavy. I unfortunately can not order bricks at the moment so not going in heavy. I'll have to be content with what I am able to do and hold out hope that he will allow us to pick up an uncut or two as an add on in the near future.
I love that these decks will be dressed in metallic inks on the card faces. I have no doubt that this Classic Edition will be just that an instant classic. Quite the head turner, a real beauty. The 'Players' Limited Edition with it's full bleed back and metallic inks on card back and face, it's a stunner in my opinion. I don't have any criticism at all, from the pips to the courts to the jokers and the aces. They exceed my expectations from the teaser images I'd seen before. It's wonderful, just wonderful. Lee reminds me why I love playing cards.
TL:DR It's completely up to you.
