Im not seeing any controversy here. Just a bunch of fellow collectors and a creator having a productive discussion in a forum designed for such a thing. Its perfect. That's why I love UC.

I personally love the idea for the reprint to be more accessible for everyone else. No matter what people say or tell me, I hate the idea of having to pay stupid prices in the after price for any deck (of course that's not to say I haven't done that because for sure I paid stupid prices for some decks I wanted). As Bradius mentioned/implied, I support people's projects mainly because of who they are/have become and the credibility they have built over the years (of course the deck has to be somewhat decent at least to support the project, but this for me is secondary). HoTRS is a very classic deck, one deck that I feel EVERYONE (old/new collectors) should have without having to pay ridiculous prices. It's too bad the stock used in this deck is discontinued because they felt great! While it looks like even if Lorenzo does end up doing a reprint, it'll be slightly different due to the thinner cards and such, but if the original stock was still around, I would for sure be up for Lorenzo doing reprints in the exact same way the first versions were printed!

As has already been said: you can't please everyone. It's like buying something in the shop only to find out that they have a sale next day; you're cheesed off because you didn't know there was a sale coming, but others are happy because there is a sale on. (It's not a perfect analogy!)

I have one or two decks stashed away "for a rainy day" but the other 450+ (brag) I have bought for the art and for the art alone, so I personally would have no problem with a reprint. We all know that Lorenzo is a smart man and he will do what he thinks best after what I would presume will be a thorough investigation.

On a lighter note, I would like to point out that this discussion started on the 17th day of the month on the 17th page of this topic so, as far as I'm concerned, the gods have spoken.

This is my feelings on re-prints:

If a designer advertised the original version as an exclusive limited deck never to be reprinted, and then (s)he goes ahead and reprints a v.2 months or years later, then I would call B.S. This move is called "Pulling a Buck" (see the S&M fiasco).

If a designer made no such warranties of an exclusive, limited, never to be reprinted deck, then (s)he is free to do whatever they want. But I think designers have to be mindful of the balance that must be struck between their original loyal supporters and the new wave of fans who may not be able to access the original deck, either due to lack of availability or excessive after-market prices. As many have already stated, I think the proper balance would be a v.2 deck that is slightly modified to differentiate the reprint from the original. This way, the original deck's value is preserved to a good degree while allowing access to a fantastic deck for those who were previously unable to obtain one.

I wanted to add that I did go back and look at the HotRS Kickstarter and Lorenzo's other Kickstarter campaigns. In his first Kickstarter, Requiem, Lorenzo was very clear about the exclusivity language.

Requiem Card Deck will exist only here on KickStarter. There will not be a reprint.

That is fairly explicit language. I didn't find anything close to similar language in other Stockholm17 campaigns and certainly not in The House of the Rising Spades Campaign.

I say this to be clear that Lorenzo did not provide any language in the House of the RIsing Spade campaign to expect that this deck can't be reprinted. Lorenzo did not make such a promise. His further comments are also comments I can agree with. this just shows you have the personal depth for introspection. This is a great quality in a person. Not to get to zen but to be able to set aside your ego (the thing in everyone that wants to be right or not back down) and grow your opinion off of another persons opinion. First of all, the House of the Rising Spades made me realized that a deck of playing cards can be used to tell stories! It's amazing how Lorenzo can come up with these whole idea! When I am looking at the court cards - which are uniquely one way and full drawn, I fell in love with them. Each has their own lore and such. And the symbols implemented to it, I quickly suspect it is a code!

Before the actual contest, I already figure it out on some of the runes. So before the contest, I quite get some of it.... well... if only I am not so dumb enough to get stumped on the iG story part -3- If only I know the first part is a date to iG post, could have solved it already.

I love the lore that wraps around Room 17 deck - I would LOOOOOVE if Lorenzo creates a novella of the House of the Rising Spades (or since he is the expert in playing cards designing, would probably allow someone to write the stories for him). Also, I would love to create fanarts based on the characters in the House of the Rising Spade. Oh the deck totally touches my soul now.

Lorenzo released this news on his Instagram to announce this:
Teaming up with Rare Playing Cards, he will be releasing House of the Rising Spades Cartomancer SECOND EDITION. The changes from the original one will be: the tuckbox (yet to be revealed) and the 55th card which is a card with runes, will be replaced with another Joker that is the Fool illustration from the Keymaster Tarot. Printed in Cartamundi in B9 slim-line, since the true linen finish is gone (the Parlour cards is said to be the last one with the said finish)

Any thoughs?
My thoughts... well.... since pretty much most of the cards are remain the same, don’t think I am going to snatch this very quickly
