Wow this is really nice.
I've spent way more than I care to admit on playing cards, but I'll still buy just about anything that Lorenzo, Jackson, or Gio make.

Dope back design. I like it a lot. Looks like something that could be vintage but fresh and modern at the same time.
You want to reclaim your mind and get it out of the hands of the cultural engineers who want to turn you into a half-baked moron consuming all this trash that’s being manufactured out of the bones of a dying world.

Thanks! This is exactly what I wanted. And it's my take on the traditional Kowhaiwhai patterns.

---- original info from the fisrt post----------

Hi!

I'll launch this project on KS in May/June. It's still work in progress. The final design is subject to change.

Printer: Cartamundi and maybe USPCC or just Cartamundi. Cold foil: 100%. Gilding: maybe. Number of decks: 1-3 * LTD and 0-1 * STD.
Boxes: Letterpress or premium matte finish or No.7 style boxes with cold foil + matte finish (TBA).
Courts: Heavily modified HT V2 (white edition).

I have a couple of more back designs, but this one is my favorite. It will be used for the Limited Edition deck.
This time I posted some work in progress images on my Instagram (stories), and I'll keep doing this.

White color is paper, not foil. I am not sure where to use silver on this back. Metallic black over foil is also an option.

I have some crazy ideas about the remaining LTD decks... There is a probability that all decks will be Limited.

I like that back design, but haven't been interested in the Tiki series at all. Face cards will determine if I back this one or not.

It's not news! There is a conspiracy theory  about why each of my next decks is better by 7.95% As I designed No.7 after that post, the new Tiki is better by 15.9%. :D

But overall, HT v3 should be 7.95% better than No.7 and so on!

Hi!

Most likely, I'll produce one STD (White with borders, USPCC(?)) and one or two LTD decks (Red and ***, Cartamundi). Gilding will be used for LTD only. I hope I'll keep the white back. :D
Kickstarter date: TBA

RED LTD:

Red: foil
White circles: foil
White lines: paper
Black: inks
Faces: full bleed red foil  + some silver + white and black for contrast

Looks amazing, Alex! This is completely random, but your red LTD version reminded me of an incredible video I saw YEARS ago that showed a Hungarian sand artist named Ferenc Cakó. He uses his hands to manipulate sand into amazing images and this woven pattern reminded me of the hair pattern he uses. Take a few minutes to enjoy the video as well!

I planned to create the 3rd deck (2nd LTD) in Black. But black is too boring  Instead, I'll am working on a "craft" edition. :geek:

Red colors updated on both LTD backs!

I'll update this image later when I finish right/left sides and corners (WIP). The standard back will also be tweaked.

:ucstar: It's the most minimalist design I have created as I use just two curves here! If I remove the curve with circles inside, it's one curve + some symmetry.

The final (99%) version uploaded. Small tweaks are still possible. :D

:ucstar: Now I know where to use different back design variations  - next week, I'll start selling prints for the local New Zealand market.
Some prints will be available on my site with a worldwide shipping option. I plan to control everything - printing, shipping, quality, etc. That's why some series of prints will be Limited/numbered/signed.

It's a local NZ project, but you are always welcome to order prints when they are available

I need a quote from Cartamundi. As you may know, It's a long process.
  • I am thinking of printing two LTD decks only (TBA).
  • If so, it will be $25-35 per deck for 300-600 decks print run :ugeek:
  • The courts are the same on all decks, but full-bleed foil will only be used on the Red deck
  • I'll start printing boxes in New Zealand :ucstar:

Most likely I'll be using "scratches" on the red foil background to add contrast. Something like this (wip):

From what I can see, it's not bad with the scratches as it gives it an edgy, used look, but I'm not seeing the full picture. Will need to see how it looks on the whole card to get a better idea.

I'll reduce the amount of this effect and/or use lines and make it more directional.

But overall I like the idea to add some white. It's not a finished design!

With the Maori warrior courts, the scratches adds to the overall effect. But, yeah, seeing it on a whole card looks too much for me as well. Reducing it will help.

Look great!

I would like to see each court card have a different pose this time though. That would really make this deck to another level.

+1! And I know how to fix it :D I'll be using clean lines to build a white background:

Ok. I got a quote from Cartamundi, and we are working on some details. I need to finish KS by August/10 and submit files before their August/26th deadline to print decks by Oct/12.

I'll show a quick render of the "craft" deck. Courts: I don't want to flip courts to make them even more different - it makes no sense. They will differ in other ways.

It's a quick update.

I have to launch my Kickstarter this week to produce decks by Oct/12. If I am ready, I'll do it after 6-24 hours confirmation here and on my Instagram. The final designs and specifications will be posted on IG and Kickstarter. Follow me on KS to get notified: https://www.kickstarter.com/profile/montenzi

Most likely, I'll tweak the red back design as it's too busy when printed. I'll remove one curve and add another. Not a big deal.

Bad news: here is a problem with the RED gilding. Cartamundi does not support this color now. I made my 3D based on the information I had one year ago. As it's my first gilded deck, it's not an option to make gilding using 3rd party as I trust Cartamundi and don't want to take risks producing an unusable gilded deck. If you know how to help with RED gilding in the EU, please let me know!
Silver gilding is ok for the red deck, but I am thinking of using gold for the craft edition (or no gilding at all).

I think Cartamundi just introduced edge printing this year? I’m not sure how it looks like, would that be a reasonable substitute for gilding?
