It seems a shame that all this talent and detail is going to be reduced to a poker-sized cards, because you lose some of the detail.

Perhaps we need to have a new standard for playing cards designed by talented artists like Lorenzo, which are four times the size, so that we can preserve more details of the terrific artwork!

It's decks like these where I wish the designers would release a booklet of their art. Nicolai does it now for most of his decks. I'm glad Jody still does it and he sometimes even includes short stories written by a professional fiction writer.

Yes Lorenzo needs to start doing booklets as well. Even PDFs can work to cut cost of being saddled with unsold booklets.

I'm actually starting to hate the boxes around the indexes...

I think the boxes for the Indexes arose an making the style similar to nautical map designs. You are entitled to not read the sea maps, but if you get lost at sea or run into a reef, you have been warned.

I'm kinda 45/55 on the boxes. I do agree that they make 100% sense for the reason Bradius mentioned - not just nautical maps but most maps in general feature these boxes in the corner where the map's symbols are explained.
But, while I don't hate them, I don't find them visually pleasing either. If I could pick between a deck without them and one with them, I would choose the prior.
Not going to pass on that deck because of them though. If the back design is somewhat close to the level of the courts, I'm going to get this deck regardless.

I seriously do hate the oceans, though. Back in the day, about half of my life ago, my family vacationed to Florida. We went to a beach, and I swam to the plastic fence/border. Something bumped into me, I saw a shark fin, and I don't know if anyone has ever ran in water as fast as I did to shore that day.

My older brother saw an alligator along those borders, too, years before. I didn't believe him, but I sure as Hel did after my own encounter.

Now, I know that humans aren't typical shark food, but they have the advantage in their own neck of the woods. I'm not gonna 'play my cards' with the predators of the sea.

Stories aside; I took a longer look at those aces, and damn, do I love that AoS. I still hate those indexes.

I don't think a booklet is planned, but not sure. I don't recall one being mentioned. I think the problem is the time and effort involved in designing and preparing a booklet adds a ton to his already long workload. However, yeah, I would love one as well. My bank account though disagrees with me on that point.

I'm kinda split on booklets.
Yah, I enjoy their content but since most are cheaply bind broschures, I would prefer if artists with a good amount of decks out there would do a hardcover artbook. For example Obey releases a book every ten years to compile his body of work of a decade. Would love to get something like that from e.g. Lotrék, Lorenzo, Gio, ...

Keymaster got the artbook, so maybe he'll do one for Eye of the Ocean aswell if the demand is high enough. Seeing that he loves to do quests and stories (e.g. Room17), we might get blessed.

I think this is done because the rewards are essentially for 12 months of Patreon contributions. If someone came on mid-year it gets to be an administrative nightmare. That said, do jump on when it reopens. It is kind of a leap of faith, but if you really like Lorenzo's stuff, it is a great package. TBH, I back him mainly to support him as a now full time playing card artist after quitting his full-time job.

here is a close-up of the back design for The Eye of the Ocean, semifinal version (this is a rendering). Now this rests for a bit, while I focus on the number cards and all the rest.
The idea behind: a mysterious and ancient eye-like navigational mechanism is the key to find the position of the sailing island "the eye of the ocean". The back design features gold foil application. I am planning another color, probably a dark brown or burgundy, warm color. I hope you like it

Love the nod to the 'due di spade' there Lorenzo. It's just awesome, great job. I think this'll be the first of your solo poker-size decks we'll see the campaign for, can't wait!
