Mythology inspired decks list
First of all, not sure if this is the right place for it, wanted to put it on Buyer's guides, but I understand that's for companies, designers, etc... So I thought that this is the best place for it instead.
Recently I fell in love with Mythology themed decks after I found who Thirdway Industries (Giovanni Meroni) is and felt the need to acquire as many decks (from him and other artists) related to this topic. But realized there isn't really a list out there, so after asking for help on reddit and going through the trouble of gathering all, thought I'd organize it and share with everyone else so it can be useful to others as well
So far I have discovered these:
- Ragnarok by Design Imperator - Marianne Larsen and Nicolai Aaroe (aka isolatedthunderstorm.com);
- Helheim by Design Imperator - Marianne Larsen and Nicolai Aaroe (aka isolatedthunderstorm.com);
- Midgard by Design Imperator - Marianne Larsen and Nicolai Aaroe (aka isolatedthunderstorm.com);
- Odissea by Thirdway Industries (aka Giovanni Meroni); (Link by Giovanni with Ulisses journey explained in the cards);
- Dedalo by Thirdway Industries (aka Giovanni Meroni);
- Pantheon by Thirdway Industries (aka Giovanni Meroni);
- Omina by Thirdway Industries (aka Giovanni Meroni); (has some references to Odin and Janus);
- Eva by Thirdway Industries (aka Giovanni Meroni); (includes the myth of Pandora and Pyrrha);
- Monolith by Thirdway Industries (aka Giovanni Meroni); (not directly related by ancient mythology, but there are a lot of references, since the "Space Gods" are inspired by some Ancient Gods);
- Luminosity by Jody Eklund (Not necessarily with a story or characters inspired by Norse Mythology, but the art is);
- Primordial by Costa Pantazis;
- Skotos by KardecK;
- Secret Egypt by KardecK;
- Viking Glory by KardecK;
- Lords and Gods of Egypt by SVI Group;
- Anubis and Osiris by Steve Minty;
- Olympia by Steve Minty;
- Bicycle Gods of Mythology by Collectable Playing Cards;
- Gjallarhorn by Ethereal Visions Publishing;
- Walhalla by The Cardster;
- Märchen by Forge Arts and art by Nicolai Aaroe; (About German legends)
- Gods of Mythology by Collectable Playing Cards, art by Marci Brinker;
- Sishou Four Beasts by SiShou Playing Cards;
- Bicycle Sky Descender;
- Bicycle Realms;
- Mythical Creatures by Gent Supply;
- Valkyrie by Gent Supply;
Added some extra info and explanations when the cards are not directly associated with most well known Mythology Gods and Legends. Feel free to obviously correct and add something you feel relevant. Descriptions present on the Thirdway decks were given by Giovanni himself on reddit.
If you guys could point me out some more, that would be great! I'm not looking to include non-Poker sized/ cheap plastic/ common store decks, just those like the ones listed above.
I will add the links within the text whenever I get the chance. (just did it on Reddit and here isn't as user friendly )
Thx everyone for reading and helping out!

Re: Mythology inspired decks list
It's about cards, so I feel it fits perfectly here
Decks you might wanna look at as well are:
Norse mythology inspired
Bicycle Æsir - two decks blue and red back
Bicycle Viking - different editions (Blizzard King & Iron Scale) with different versions out there
Bicycle Viking King
Bicycle Valkyrie
Greek mythology inspired
Olympians by Skymember
Theos by Parama Playing Cards
Babylonian inspired
Enuma by Nemesis Factory
And there is that Trickster Gods deck that Sunish (Guru Playing Cards) created. I dunno in what state this project is though, as I don't follow it avidly. Might be still in the fulfillment and/or production phase.

Re: Mythology inspired decks list
Thanks @Harvonsgard for the mention.
I'm a very big fan of mythology, I love it.
Here is the list of decks I did related to mythological themes:
Divine Art Playing Cards - Inspired by Hindu mythology
Bharata Playing Cards - loosely inspired by Mahabharata - the longest epic poem ever written
Kalevala Playing Cards - Based on finnish epic 'Kalevala'
Mythos Playing Cards (unreleased) - Based on Trickster Gods from various mythologies
@AlvarezPt - Just noticed your profile pic. I messaged Sony 2 years ago to see if I can do a deck on Kratos through licensing arrangement. Never received any reply (as I'd imagined), and I do follow up while trying to find referneces to the folks associated with the game. If it ever happens that I recieve a favorable response, will post on this thread first

Re: Mythology inspired decks list
@Sunish No worries at all, mate
I'm a stupid piece of s*** for not mentioning two of my favorite decks out there! Fujin and Raijin Plainy Cards by Bombmagic are crazy good imho and are based on the name giving Asian weather gods.
Other mentions I forgot are:
Bicycle Celtic Myth
Bicycle Hercules
Plus, I don't know how strict you are and how much folklore and mythology intersect for you but Jocu's Fillide and The Green Man are kinda mythology based as well.

Re: Mythology inspired decks list
I guess we could throw the Sumi decks in here as well. The originals and Kitsune versions.

Re: Mythology inspired decks list
I played God of War years ago on my PS2 and the game is still one of my favorites of all time. I used some iteration of Kratos as my handle for years. If you succeed in making licensing arrangements, I will certainly be IN. Good luck, Sunish!guru wrote:@AlvarezPt - Just noticed your profile pic. That's definitely one for my "decks I would like to see made"-list!

Re: Mythology inspired decks list
There is actually a God of War deck but I didn't know if I should mention it. Kinda more in the fantasy real than mythology but I would say from a objective stance there isn't much of a difference between both. But it is you've guessed it apparently cheap souvenir deck quality anyways.

Re: Mythology inspired decks list
Wow, managed to miss quite a few then.. Thanks all for pointing them all out. I'm a tad busy now with all the corona stuff impacting everything (why I took a bit to answer) but I will add the decks, with proper descriptions and links, as soon as I get a minute to breath.
@guru - yoooo, that would be insanely cool! But yeah, they usually don't answer that stuff lol If you did a deck without their permission though, you'd get a message within a week lol
But yeah, If you manage to do it I'll deff be in! Got no idea how KW managed to get license for the LOTR decks, but whatever it is, worked.
@Harvonsgard - yeah, that's a cool deck, but prob cheap quality and stupid hard to track down. Same as the RDR2 deck that showed up when the game came out, not paying a fortune for souvenir-like decks. Cool to mention tho

I dream of a world where wars are fought only by having dance offs. I also dream that a Finnish playing card designer would exist. The former seems more likely to happend.
Money can't buy you happiness, but it can buy you a penguin. Have you ever met a sad person with a penguin?
Are lobsters mermaids to scorpions?

@Alvarez
If I remember correctly, JR mentioned in one of his early lives that it took years and persistence to get the LotR license. I guess you don't really have a chance with bigger franchises unless you now someone that you can pitch your idea directly or if the stars align.

This deck (above) was made available via Collectable Playing Cards after a previously failed attempt at getting funding by the original artist, Marci Brinker. (https://www.collectableplayingcards.com ... 45830.html)

Re: Mythology inspired decks list
Thankyou for all the new decks guys! I knew you all would help me complete this Aside from like 1/2 I will most likely try to buy all the rest!
@Harvonsgard
Yeah, guess it most likely needs a miracle and a stupid amount of persistence.
Still praying to see a God of war and ESPECIALLY a Pokemon deck one day.
