Hazbin Hotel Fan Art Cards

Hey All!

You may remember my stuff from the Star vs. the Forces of Evil deck.

Just for fun, I'm doing a few cards based on Hazbin Hotel (itself a creator-driven animation project). It's an animated musical comedy, really only a pilot episode so far, about a demon princess of Hell who attempts to redeem the sinners suffering in Hell, and her wacky misadventures.

This may or may not go anywhere, but since I'm making them anyway, I thought I'd post them here for any comments or suggestions.

I ran into some problems with that - I have yet to hear back from Disney about getting a licence to use their intellectual property. Plus, the show it was based on ended and the fandom scattered to the winds. Also, being the first deck I ever did, some of the early cards I'm not happy with, so I'd want to redo them.

Every card I have seen for both decks has been great. I would love to have both. Perhaps you could do a copper foil version along with the overdone gold [emoji6]

This one took forever to draw - many of the elements I've never done before, like the guns, the 1940s style syringes, and the mink stole.

Honestly, when I first read the description, I purposely didn't look at the cards. I was expecting to be underwhelmed, but these are really nice. I would be glad to support this when you are ready to publish. Good luck with it.

I don't blame you for being skeptical - fan art is always ultimately derivative of the show it is based on. The amusing part of doing fan art in the form of cards, at least for me, is that you can have fun in the composition of the cards - a sort of blending of the card format with the characters and situations taken from the show.

I think licensing and show longevity are always going to be issues. Have you thought about creating your own characters and story for a deck? You certainly have the talent for it.

Thanks for the vote of confidence! Certainly you are correct, licencing and show longevity are always issues (though I may soon have some good news on the first point).

My next deck probably won't be a fan art deck.

The reason I did fan art decks was simple: I was into the fan art community, and one day stumbled into the idea of doing a card deck, rather than my more usual fan art.

Amusingly, I started doing what turned out to be a semi-transformation deck style, before I had ever heard that was already an established thing (even has a name!)

Now, though, I'm having so much fun making cards, I've kinda shifted - from a fan artist who one day decided to do some cards, to a card artist who works with fan art. In short, I'm now more interested in cards.
