Not to be that guy who argues just for the sake of arguing, but stating something like this as fact kinda itches me. There is no way of proving (or disproving) this, so it is no more than your personal hypothesis. Which you may just have neglected to mention, I'm just sayin'
I don't find the Bicycle branding essential. Some of my favorite decks (Seasons, Uusi Bohemia, Artisans) are not Bicycle branded. Having said that, I totally understand if some backers feel a "bait & switch" going on when he considered dropping the Bicycle logo. At the prices he's charging for these decks, having the quality and bells and whistles on the tuck box should be included anyways.
bicycle is only a name. so is bee, kem, hoyle, aviator, congress, maverick, streamline and all are made by the 800 pound gorilla USPCC.
think about it. i think jackson has already stated these are going to be bee stock. you know the make and feel of bee? getting rid of bicycle leaves more room for art on the tuck box.
I'm very happy to hear the Bicycle logo will remain. The tuck box will be a beautiful purge of two, long-standing American points of pride- Bicycle branded playing cards and currency.
I also read on his KS page that they wouldn't even let Jackson change the name of his project. I think that's a good thing. And I want to clarify- as I said in the begining of this thread, Jackson is obviously an artist first and a playing card fan second. This is clear when he posted that he is indifferent of the logo being on the box. But I think it's great that he listened and acted upon feedback from the playing card community. This deck is gonna be awesome!
Anyway, I'll get off the soap box now... can someone tell me how to get the Gold Certificate deck? It's confusing to me.
sms69x wrote:Jackson, I have a question! Since I can pledge for $11 - all gone when I get there - will the faces of the cards on the Gold Certificate deck be the same as in the Federal 52??
I have to get this deck, since it is almost at $40,000 I'm considering this option!
Hey. I just went over to the Kickstarter page and saw there were a couple of $11 pledges for the original deck available. Snagged the last one. (My first Kickstarter pledge, BTW.) I'm officially in!
Signature? I ain't got no signature. I don't need no signature. I don't have to show you any stinking signature.
Possibility of a silver deck now...Latest update from kickstarter
Next Stretch Goal Idea:
I know before I released the stretch goal graphic that promo'd the Reserve Note Deck once we reach $85K. I started to think about it and something hit me. Instead of the Reserve Note Deck why not do natural pair, The Gold Certificate Deck & A Silver Certificate Deck. The Silver Certificate will be Blue in color theme and have blue treasury seals on the front. I'm ok with doing either deck, I just wanted to get your thoughts and feedback on which one you would like me to do.
If I do a Silver Certificate Deck it will have a completely new Box and Back Design. and be priced @ $11 +$7 for international Shipping. I can make the Reserve Note Deck another Stretch goal, or just save it for another Kickstarter project.
Jackson has amazing art and could build a market for himself that would last years but seems to be cramming it all into one giant package. Slow down good sir! The campaign is successful, take a moment and breathe, actually get deck #1 in customer hands and then make them come back for even more later.
If the original product is as good as it seems, they will come back and pay you again and again. Don't most folks in business generally agree that a high quality "slow burn" is better than an explosion that disappears immediately? (one hit wonders, dotcom era, etc). Don't blow the wad in 5 min, spread that stuff out and enjoy the work for a long time.
If you have clear you want to release the third deck, and you have made your calculations about the investment and the shipping, I am sure many of your backers would like to have them all at the same time, specially those international backers. I would prefer the USPCC would make decks slowly (the number of decks is being unlimited completely opposite to my budget) but I wish all decks would have the quality of yours.

IMO of course, etc etc.
Agreed on all points, Paul. Slow and steady wins the race.
I love Jackson's deck, but I cancelled my pledge since the rewards keep changing. I will pledge again when the deadline is imminent.
Jackson - i see; everyone makes mistakes; maybe you could explain it on the right. you can change that. great to know you can increase your quantity on kickstarter for all you kickstarter 101's. let me say it again from march 13th. {"what are you talking about" don't you see it? this is the new pedale. it's like the second coming of jesus. he should do very good.} and can i add "if you buy 4 god decks you get 1 free jesus deck"
The Queen of Spades.....

Actually the only thing you can change once someone has pledge for it is the quantity. LOL your not the first person who has praised the all mighty God deck. I'm such an idiot. Trust me I wish I could change it, but now its all good people are having a good time with it.
Jackson - i don't mean to bitch but your arrows on the right are not lining up with your rewards on the left. i believe in keeping it simple. after your rewards, you should have your stretch goals. rewards and stretch goals are set in stone. remember to have a new ribbon when you reach your stretch goal. most of the time they have the word "Achieved" in red.
finally, after the rewards and stretch goals; you can put in your story. "This is more than a Kickstarter project to me, this is a life long dream come true to design a deck of cards inspired by currency." and so on.....

Sprouts, I really think he's doing fine on his own. Are you just looking for stuff to bitch about? Seriously bud.. I could understand if you had a big successful KS campaign under your belt, but that isn't the case. I think the arrows not lining up is a insignificant issue, and Jackson is on his way to having one of the top KS deck campaigns... so let it go sprouts.

CBJ
Agreed... Sprouts - Sprout a relevant thought regarding the deck... It's leagues above anything that's appeared on kickstarter... Kudos to Jackson, and in addition... Thank you Jackson for taking the constructive criticism and using the appropriate information to elevate the deck to an unparalleled level (thus far)...
jackson - i really like the big huge left corner badge with the "US". not using the standard "J" or "Joker" and going with your own take is smart it sets you apart. your right corner badge with the green seal really goes with the theme. i remember someone suggesting putting the seal top right a while back. my only suggestion for your next joker is the "US" needs some red. in most decks there is a red and black joker. jokers do have a rank.
"there will be a red Joker, and a black Joker. In games where the jokers may need to be compared, the red, full-color, or larger-graphic Joker usually outranks the black, monochrome, or smaller-graphic one."

In Jackson's last update he said he's refusing to sell these wholesale. Bad news for a lot of people who were hoping to avoid the ridiculously overpriced international shipping.

To be honest, his international shipping prices for up to 4 decks are reasonable. It is only when you go beyond 4 decks that the shipping prices become excessive.
Thanks!
EDIT: Actually when you look at his adjusted shipping prices he put in the story section, his prices are basically where they should be.
I backed this project. I have a lot of faith in Jackson and his work. I just hope more of these decks will be available, just for purchase at a later date. (I can't donate more at this time, and I'd like a bunch for performing if I like the stock and finish which is very important to me)...

I only wish he was continuing on with the Silver Cert deck as part of this KS. Now International backers are going to get hit twice by shipping.
I do love the decks though, so I have no choice but to break my self-imposed KS ban and join in.
Every once in a while a deck hits KS that is undeniable. Many are easy to pass on, some...the complete opposite. This deck is a little high in price but considering how much work has gone into each card, it is well worth it. I am in.
