Re: Vict Playing Cards now live on Kickstarter
You said it yourself, you are new to playing cards. This is the biggest mistake you can make when asking for other peoples money.
Has ONE person said "Great, I'm glad you are not going with USPCC! I would rather spend the same amount of money on an inferior deck of cards."? No they havent because USPCC is the hands down industry leader.
Don't tell me 'Sam's Cola' tastes the same as 'Coca Cola'.

Re: Vict Playing Cards now live on Kickstarter
No that is not what i said, what I said is "are there any suggestions on how to raise the money for USPCC?" also if Pepsi had the same attitude then they would never be Pepsi, but they didn't they took a chance and competed with Coca Cola thus today there are people who like Coca Cola and some who like Pepsi. What Im saying is if this company proves to make great quality playing cards, then what is the problem? No one seem to have answered this question. If Pepsi taste the same as Coke why be upset? So what im saying is, if this company proves to make good quality cards, are you guys still going to deny the fact? And of course I support everyone on the fact that I too wouldn't spend my money on bad quality cards, thats why im not saying you should throw your money away, all Im saying is if after this deck, you guys are able to see these cards and see they are good, would you still not be willing to buy?

Re: Vict Playing Cards now live on Kickstarter
As a designer who has used kickstarter I can understand the hassles that come with it. However, it's not about people being brand junkies, it's about delivering a product people can trust. Remember, people are backing a product that doesn't even exist yet. No matter what company you use, or what people say about the quality, as a backer they won't be able to judge for themselves until its paid and in hand aka way too late. USPCC is a guaranteed brand. The others are not. Plain and simple. Would you buy a car seat for your newborn baby from a well known company that only makes car seats or a fledgling company that produces business cards and other nonrelatable items that claims to be just as good without the track record?
A problem that most new KS creators have is that they don't take the product serious enough because they are new to this all. To them "it's just a deck of cards" but to many backers it's a huge part of their lives. I was new too so I understand underestimating the market, but if you want to be successful you're going to have to be willing to realize, you're no longer making cards for yourself, but for others.

Re: Vict Playing Cards now live on Kickstarter
Thank you for that comment 4PM, I to enjoy playing cards a lot, and I collect them. I don't know if any one got the Stealth Playing Cards, but I have two decks. The quality of those cards, are not what I expected, there is no way to do any magic with them, but am I upset I spend $14 on them? No, I simply enjoy different designs and ideas, and for $14 I know that its not a make it or break it for me. And to compare playing cards to a life of a child, I do believe its a bit extreme, but I get your point. Im a full time medical student, and I work part time, so I try my best to try and meet the needs of everyone, but its really hard when people are so unsupportive. Like I said, I don't own TMcards and Im not backing their product, all im saying is that I think its worth 9-12 bucks to give someone a one time chance to try and prove themselves. If any one disagree I would love to hear why? If this deck comes out a bad quality, trust me I will not be going with the same people, I rather will spend a year try to come up with a wonderful design, and do my best to go with USPCC, but as of right now I cant promise anything nor can I deny. Hope you guys understand.
Thank you

Re: Vict Playing Cards now live on Kickstarter
Well, I wouldn't use exactly that analogy since taste is very subjective and easily swayed by psychological factors (like brand loyalty).Russell wrote:Don't tell me 'Sam's Cola' tastes the same as 'Coca Cola'.
But in this case, the fact is that USPCC is the industry standard and no other current manufacturer makes playing cards as well as them. Period. Someone totally new to playing cards might not see/feel a big difference, but there is not one person out there that will say another manufacturer is better than USPCC from a purely objective standpoint.

Well I am sorry to see this response, but as an creator, I cant do anything about the brand name of these cards. But as an individual, I wish you guys would see that im not here for business, I just wanted to give something to the community, and this was the best I could do as of right now.
Thank you all

Clearly you are backing their product because you are using their product. I am not exactly clear why it is worth $9-$12 to give it a try, other than so you could make money. Your asking people to spend money with a 99% chance the quality will not be up to par with USPCC so you can realize your dream of creating a deck. If you have a quality design and a quality manufacturer, then your deck will get funded, if not it won't. I think you should take an objective look at your deck and see how it compares to other successful decks like the federal 52, Grid 2.0 and Quicksilver. To me, your deck is way behind on backer support and that should tell you something.
If this deck comes out a bad quality, trust me I will not be going with the same people, I rather will spend a year try to come up with a wonderful design, and do my best to go with USPCC, but as of right now I cant promise anything nor can I deny. Hope you guys understand.
Your not the one who suffers if the quality comes out bad, it is your backers. In addition you said you saw some e-cards of theirs and another company. I don't see any mention of you actually getting samples and comparing USPCC's product and TMcards product side by side. What I see is you are going with the manufacturer who will let you produce the smallest amount of cards possible, with no regard for the quality of the product you are putting out.
Look this is just my opinion and quite frankly, unless I am missing something, I can not really imagine why anyone would back a project under those circumstances.
Thanks!

But maybe you need to be realistic and see the community really doesn't want the product you are currently offering. Maybe you need to make adjustments so the community can accept and embrace your product, instead of just trying to jam down their throats an inferior product so you can say you made a deck.
It works both ways.
Thanks!

Re: Vict Playing Cards now live on Kickstarter
Actually I have ordered the samples, they just take a really long time to arrive. As soon as I get them Ill be sure to post the pictures up. For the next deck, Ill be sure to have all these advices in mind as I didn't realize how important the bicycle brand was. So thank you all for your comments and ill try my best to have a very unique design that will have the bicycle brand on it.
Thank you guys.
Thank you guys.

Fine, but then you shouldn't come on here and say they make a quality product when clearly you have no idea whether they do or not because you don't even have samples yet!!! Maybe you should have started slow and got all your ducks in a row before rushing a Kickstarter project through just because you want to strike while the iron is hot. Clearly this is just about making money. Anyone who gets into a business with no regard for producing a quality product(That is clearly the case here because you don't have samples yet) should not be supported in my opinion.
Thanks!

And this is probably the biggest problem with kickstarter. People start projects without having a clue and then things go to hell.BMPokerworld wrote:Fine, but then you shouldn't come on here and say they make a quality product when clearly you have no idea whether they do or not because you don't even have samples yet!!! Re: Vict Playing Cards now live on Kickstarter
The reason why I have no samples, is because I went with USPCC on my first campaign which I had to cancel. And like I said, I saw deck reviews on Youtube such as Galaxy playing cards, which looked good, so I felt confident in the company. But you are right, this I did learn through my first experience, I should of got all the ducks in the row. I do apologies for rushing into it, its defiantly a beginners mistake. I do ask you guys to not support the TMcards or its company, but the creator as an individual who didn't think it was going to end up like this. I am sorry about the hustle and I definitely didn't mean for it to end up like this. But defiantly, next deck I will make sure I have fully printed samples at hand before I even think of launching another kickstarter campaign. Thank you !

Re: Vict Playing Cards now live on Kickstarter
I don't know that the Bicycle brand per se is important, it's quality that is important. The United States Playing Card Company is a HUGE company that has ended up acquiring so many other name brands it's almost next to impossible to find a deck the customer is familiar with that isn't manufactured by USPCI didn't realize how important the bicycle brand was.
It's like Starbucks, lots of people can make better coffee, but when you walk into a Ma and Pa shop you run the risk of getting crap. But Starbucks creates a consistently quality product, and so people are more confident bidding if they know the company that makes the cards has a reputation.
Personally, TM has a mediocre website and the only video I can find of their decks... looks a little shoddy, but that's just me.

As a customer, I would not feel confident, until I had heard back from more people.
I wish you luck and I hope this works out for you.

BTW, I have no idea what you mean about "Good Quality" when referring to the Galaxy deck. Everyone who I have ever seen post, said the print quality was horrible and they didn't think the deck was going to last very long. The alien Ink guys are also the same clowns that told their backers, that even though they paid for shipping in their pledges, they didn't have enough money to ship out all the decks and sold retail so they could use that money to send out their pledges. Just more people like you who shouldn't be in business. According to your theory, I shouldn't have to go to Med school because I watch Gray's Anatomy!!!

Im not sure why your so angry BM, but as I mentioned, I do apologize for rushing into this, and had no idea. This is not done intentionally to rip people off or make people upset, it was simply a beginners mistake which will not happen again. Thats all I can say about this and Im not sure how else to show my regret.

Cancel funding and restart when you actually have samples. Until then you are just lieing about the quality of the cards as you HAVE NO IDEA.

Re: Vict Playing Cards now live on Kickstarter
As the samples are 4-7 days away from arriving, I believe it will be unfair to just cancel. But once I receive the samples, and find that they are truly bad quality, then I wouldn't want to build a bad reputation and will cancel it with no problem.

You misunderstand me, I am not angry. I am tired of people like you who come to this forum to promote their deck and only want praise and not criticism as well. You are very defensive anytime someone even makes the slightest critique of your deck. You pulled the first project where you were using USPCC, I assume because you weren't getting enough of interest. Doesn't anything go off in your head that tells you that your design isn't strong enough? Nope lets' just keep watering down the quality of the deck until you are cutting cards out of construction paper. Yep That's the ticket!!!!
If you want to gain the support of any community, listen to what they are saying. Pull your project, work on the design, figure out how to run a business and give them a quality project. When you do that, they will be beating down your door to buy your product. You won't have to work so hard to sell it then.
Just food for thought!!!
Thanks!

Re: Vict Playing Cards now live on Kickstarter
Thank you for that information, but Im not defensive about what is happening, im just shocked that you guys don't see a new comer but rather a company. As i have mentioned, Im new to this, and this is a learning lesson which I will remember. And I will defiantly do my best from here on out to go with bicycle, but on the same token its not fair for me to cancel even before getting the samples. And if the samples prove to be worth the money, I would like to keep this campaign and restart my next project with only the bicycle in mind. Thank you

How will you know if the quality is good or not? You have no experience and do not have the expertise to tell the difference. Your backers are not paying you money to experiment. Your backers are paying for a quality product and for someone who knows what they are doing. From what I can tell you are unable to fill either of those 2 requirements and therefore you should cancel the project, as Russell has said. Clearly this is not about doing right by your backers but about money and ego.
Thanks!

Re: Vict Playing Cards now live on Kickstarter
As I mentioned before, Im looking at 800 to 1500 loss on this project, so its definitely not about money. I bought brand new Adobe master collection software, and money for people to create some 3D graphics for me, and before this all end, I might end up paying for shipping as well, so am well prepared for that. And this is not about an ego, this is about passion, I don't have the passion to make money, I have a passion for design. And a design can be drawn on a rock, but still mean a lot. As I mentioned about Stealth deck, its not the quality of the cards its the design that I was attracted to. So if there are people who can respect the design aspect, then I have succeeded in my goal, but if its the best quality, then I will succeed in that as well with more knowledge and experience.

So now we are changing our tune. First it was about giving your backers a quality product, now since you can't win that argument, it has changed to you want to supply them a quality design. Good Luck with that.
Thanks!
P.S. Most of the people that I have seen who have received their Stealth deck, wish they hadn't pledged.

No, its design and quality, thats why I said with more experience I will improve on both ends. I just need you guys to help me and that way I can learn more and do better down the road. Its never just about design, nor is it just about bicycle brand, now I see its both go hand in hand. So I will make sure that in the future its not just me spending 4 months on a design, but now its lets add 4 more months to make sure I have everything at hand before I launch. Thank you all so much for taking your time and imputing so much information, today was definitely a learning lesson for many years to come!!

We are helping you, we are telling you how to do things right. You said you are going to med school right? Are you paying tuition? I mean you want us to teach you by spending our money for an inferior product? What do we get out of it? Helping you so we could have the privilege of buying your next deck? Trust me, there are lots of quality designers that don't need us to hold their hand every step of the way. Maybe you should learn how to things right on your own first, then ask us for our support. What do you think?
Thanks!

Re: Vict Playing Cards now live on Kickstarter
If you are driven purely by passion, then you're not thinking logically. Cancelling the project and relaunching it when you have everything ready and planned out will be more beneficial for both you and your backers.
And for your future project I suggest researching the financial aspect of a project like this, for example the cost per deck/sales ratio. Lowering the cost can potentially increase your sales even more, making a bigger print run more viable.

Well now having this information, I think I definitely know how to do it right on the next campaign! And I have you guys to thank, because up until now I didn't have the full knowledge that I have now. So yes definitely the next deck will be a bicycle deck guarantee!! and also I will make sure that the design is as unique as possible!! Thank you to everyone for having this discussion, it definitely has helped me learn a lot! And also, I was hoping to learn the market by doing this deck, and seeing exactly how to do the next one. I will try my best even if it cost me money, to bring better design, lower price, and have my sample printed and have everything in line before you guys even hear from me

Re: Vict Playing Cards now live on Kickstarter
Hello, here are some numbers that I got, please see if any one have advice as to what to do for my next project if I go with USPCC
--- MOD EDIT ---
DO NOT POST USPCC PRICE QUOTES. THINGS CHAGE AND SO DO THIER PRICES.
--- MOD EDIT ---
This is how I got to 15k just to be safe for the previous project. If any one can help me work with these numbers in a way where I can bring the stretch goal down and still be able to go with USPCC that would be great! Maybe take out the custom tuck boxes because thats what cost me a lot. that way I can make the stretch goal 8500 to 9000k. What do you guys think?
Thank you guys!
