Re: Bicycle Federal 52 - LIVE on Kickstarter
That's just their first early bird special, there's nothing "international exclusive" about it.DukeBoy wrote:the second tier is the 1 deck/international the 3rd tier is the 1 deck/Ace of diamond celebration
Re: Bicycle Federal 52 - LIVE on Kickstarter
I got the last $11 deck.
As I said before, I love the look of this deck. I just refuse to spend $15 on a deck of cards.

Re: Bicycle Federal 52 - LIVE on Kickstarter
there are still about 50 left, you reclosed out the Ace of clubs level, I think one of the people thought they were able to pledge for multiple levels and switched tiers.

Re: Bicycle Federal 52 - LIVE on Kickstarter
I had to pledge this $11 Ace of Diamonds Tier now .$18 for 2 decks shipped international. Thats very fair priced! THANK YOU!JacksonRobinson wrote:Here is my latest update....
That's not all guys! Like I said earlier this is a learning process for me. As an active way to say thank you and gesture to try and make things “right” for my international backers. The next Ace Celebration Deck release (which will be this weekend, hint, hint) Not only am I making 100 decks available for $11, If you are an international back that snags one of the Celebration 100 decks you will also receive a second deck for FREE. Yes I said it FREE! You will still have to add $7 for shipping.

Re: Bicycle Federal 52 - LIVE on Kickstarter
Jackson - i noticed your changing your left side on kickstarter to match the reward. that is actually what i was planning on doing in mine. http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/213 ... n=6d6f5cb2" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; mind if i steal your arrow? i didn't think about that one and it makes a lot of sense. just know that i've seen a lot of kickstarter project and know body has ever matched the left with the reward. you may start a trend. i know why your doing it; to give info about the 3 extra decks. it's a bitch when you set a reward on kickstarter and want to change it. now you can explain it. just remember with your reserve deck make the reward longer in text so you can include a bigger picture.

I really think this is a deck to back. Great art work. I will be supporting this cause...

Can't say I'm a big fan of removing the Bicycle Logo, as I am particularly fond of it. However, I will say that I understand why you did it and the deck does is coming along beautifully... It is starting to flow really nicely...

Re: Bicycle Federal 52 - LIVE on Kickstarter
I can't express how disappointed I am that you have removed the "Bicycle" name from the tuckbox.
Unfortunately I may have to cancel my pledge now.
I think to be at $40,000 with over 1100 backers... then to all of a sudden CHANGE the main part of what everyone thought they were buying is bad business.
I prefer the Bicycle tuckbox.
Not a good start to my week

First of all, I agree with this statement 100%.CBJ wrote:I think to be at $40,000 with over 1100 backers... then to all of a sudden CHANGE the main part of what everyone thought they were buying is bad business.
Secondly, I don't see how it not being a Bicycle deck takes that much away from the deck. I understand how people are collecting decks of a certain brand, but would your Levis pants be any worse without the tag?

Part of it is the extra money. Non Bicycle decks typically cost between $.50-$.75 per deck less to make. So now you are getting less value for your money and he just increased his profit. Does that mean you shouldn't get the deck? Not necessarily. If you like it buy it, but it does leave a bad taste in everyone's mouth, so I do understand everyone's frustration.
Thanks!

Being a "Bicycle" deck collector is what makes it so frustrating... This was one of my favorites.MagikFingerz wrote:Secondly, I don't see how it not being a Bicycle deck takes that much away from the deck. Re: Bicycle Federal 52 - LIVE on Kickstarter
When I read the update this morning I expected there to be some grumbling here. I don't mind the change, I am not particularly in love with the bicycle branding. The new "features," embossing, foil, metallic inks are good enough reason for me to ditch the bicycle premium. Not sure I like the suits on the front of the box (I didn't like them on the original back design either for that matter, feels heavy handed))
I do have a few reservations. First, the new features are fairly standard for a deck that is 400% funded, and the deck price is above average.
Second, any arguments that involve the Gold Certificate Deck fall flat for me. I didn't pledge for the gold certificate deck, I pledged for the standard Federal 52. Additionally, I am not recieving the gold certificate deck at a discount or free when we hit 40K - I will have to add it just like any other addon. There is no way good way for the creator or backers to tell how many people have pledged for the Gold Certificate Deck. I think this substantially increases the risk and potentially reduces the profit margin for the kickstarter in general depending on the reception of the second deck.
Still love the deck, and Jackson has been very responsive to changes that have really improved the quality of the deck (two-way backs). I think there is a fine line with changing things midstream and this jumped it.

I agree it will cut in to his profit line but there is no risk as the $40K covers both print runs with plenty of money to cover shipping.Ryric wrote: Second, any arguments that involve the Gold Certificate Deck fall flat for me. I would agree that he will lose some backers as they will not want a non-bike deck, it is a far cry from false advertising as you still have the ability to back out. If he did this after the funding had charged then I would agree.vasta41 wrote:I'm pissed. As far as I'm concerned, this was false advertisement! Might as well change the topic title.....
I like the changes it brings a feel of a vintage deck to me. I'm worried the foil and metallic inks are going to cheapen the vintage effect.

Re: Bicycle Federal 52 - LIVE on Kickstarter
Every KS update I recieve says "BICYCLE" in it. Clearly this was a selling point for Jackson... and now it's an outright lie. The product was launched and advertised as a Bicycle deck. And now it's not a Bicycle deck. How on earth is this NOT false advertising??DukeBoy wrote:I would agree that he will lose some backers as they will not want a non-bike deck, it is a far cry from false advertising as you still have the ability to back out. Re: Federal 52 - LIVE on Kickstarter
I will say that part of the problem is not everyone reads the updates, so you will have people that are going to be disappointed when they get their decks and it doesn't say Bicycle on it.
Thanks!
Thanks!
Re: Federal 52 - LIVE on Kickstarter
Seems like an attempt to make more profit on an already overpriced deck with pretty healthy profit margins.

Re: Federal 52 - LIVE on Kickstarter
I don't think he's considering this to make more profit. I don't think that's his primary motivator and I think he realizes this is an incredibly special accomplishment either way. I think his motives are just what he said ... does he want to use his backer money on features for the cards, or on the brand ...Twix wrote:Seems like an attempt to make more profit on an already overpriced deck with pretty healthy profit margins.
That said ... while I trust his motives, I don't think this is a smart choice. (And I hope he's in thinking-about-it mode, rather than already-decided mode.)
At the prices he is charging, he has plenty of margin to ensure that the quality of the cards is first-rate. So this isn't brand-vs-quality. The choice is brand vs all those extra add-ons. Frankly, I'd rather NOT have the foil and metallic ink. Even if it was free. The foil and metallic ink are distractions to me. So brand vs foil? No contest. It's Bicycle all the way. And as someone else pointed out, if he wants to do foils and stuff for the stretch goal decks ... no problem. My problem is that the Bicycle brand is an integral part of the product--it's in the title, and it's in every bit of publicity that has gone out on this deck.

Re: Bicycle 'Federal 52' - LIVE on Kickstarter
Jackson, I have a question! Since I can pledge for $11 - all gone when I get there - will the faces of the cards on the Gold Certificate deck be the same as in the Federal 52??
I have to get this deck, since it is almost at $40,000 I'm considering this option!

Re: Bicycle Federal 52 - LIVE on Kickstarter
I think with the funds that he raised he can certainly afford to utilize the Bicycle Logo... However, this is an artistic decision and not necessarily a card collector decision... Thus, he is looking at this from a a design standpoint, and I must say that the front and back of the box have come a long way... He has also listened to the constructive criticism and improved the deck significantly... This is more upsetting to those who lean more towards Bicycle, as this was started as a Bicycle Federal 52 Deck and so I feel it should remain... In this case, the deck is nice enough that I will support it either way... We'll see where it goes...BMPokerworld wrote:

Edit: Having misread BMPokerworld's post... I am in full agreement... This does, from a financial standpoint just line the designer's pockets... He should feel very blessed to have a project blow past his goals and not change the branding the deck was initially started under, but either way I'm not losing any sleep over it...
Re: Bicycle 'Federal 52' - LIVE on Kickstarter
I understand your idea in terms of Design.
But the majority of collectors specifically collect USPCC / Bicycle Brand. With this, the logo is its heart and soul of the brand.
Taking it away makes the deck itself a great deal less desirable. If you want to compare with other cllectoritems or brandnames, its like a mustang which has no mustang on the grill. You wont find any Nike, Sony, Apple, coke, or other Brandnames without their symbol on it, for a good reason. People identify the name with certain qualities.
In this case, i would feel like buying a non-brand-deck, which would be kind of disappointing, and i personally like the design of the BicycleLogo, maybe you can do something with the logo itself to fit the theme better.
I have seen you learning by doing, and taking criticism seriously, and i think, your doing a great job so far. Hope you take the logo back on the box.
