Re: Lucky Playing Cards
I think the idea and theme is a good one. However, the literal lines in between the halves of the queens and some of the queens are a no go for me. When the 2 halves of courts do not blend together well, it runs the aesthetic for me. I would rather a well done, full frame, one way court.

Re: Lucky Playing Cards
I love this theme and I think the execution is almost there. I am going to vomit out a lot of horseshit because I like to do that for decks that really intrigue me. Keep in mind, these are my opinions and the suggestions I make are ones I think would lead to a deck I would buy. Regarding the artwork, I had a few thoughts:
- The anatomy on the courts could use some attention. I think the King of Diamonds has the best execution
- If you look at the King of Clovers, his face lacks any realistic detail and his hands lack detail, so his fingers look like odd sausages
- The Jack of Diamonds has something slightly off about the right side of his face and his left hand has tiny fingers, except for the index finger which is much thicker (I love the transition on this Jack)
- I would like to see the Jack of Hearts have hands detailed like the King of Diamonds. Give some detail to the knuckles and give him some larger brawler hands. They are a bit too small
- The face of the Queen of Spades is very odd. Something about it is off to me so it doesn't seem to be realistic
- The hands on the Queen of Diamonds have odd proportions
- The harpist on the Queen of Clovers could use some knuckles
- The Joker's face is very odd as well and I think he broke his right middle finger
- The flying buttresses on either side of the Ace of Spades are simply not beautiful, in my opinion. The faces lack a certain femininity and the hair seems sloppy, instead of refined
- The brown color shown on the tuck and the courts should absolutely be gold metallic ink. I think it would be a shame if the plan is only to use a brown color
- Your transitions are fantastic, for the most part. It does look odd on those with a simple, straight line. I would work out a way to avoid the straight break
- I think the border lines could use a bit more detail or corner flourishes at least. A small celtic knot at the corners could be a good start. They are simply too plain at the moment, even with the horseshoes
- I love the font treatment for "Lucky" but the other fonts seem dated. I don't know if a more compressed sans sarif would look better for "Playing Cards" and "Las Vegas, Nevada" but I think the current font is a bit too tall and skinny, perhaps. The sarif font used for the indexes is simply boring. I know it is a standard font but I think a better sarif could take this deck up another notch
Just to be clear, I love what you have done so far, despite the thoughts/suggestions I shared above. Even as it stands, the deck is miles ahead of many that hit the market. I want to see decks I like succeed and I love it when designers come by to ask for input (though you are probably regretting that decision right about now). I want to see this deck hit the next level. With some refinements and metallic inks, along with foil and embossing on the tuck, this deck would be THE St. Patricks Day deck. Epic. Thanks for sharing and please let us see the number cards as well! Cheers

Re: Lucky Playing Cards
Really nice updates for your second draft! I still think something could be done to add some more detail to the border line but this is a fantastic update.
One thing that is throwing me for a loop: your new Queen of Clovers. She might just be my favorite illustration in your deck but she doesn't seem to fit with the style of the other court cards. It's hard to explain but I see the other Queens as delicate and almost like porcelain dolls. The new Queen of Clovers is a much more contemporary style and really quite beautiful. She fills more of the space and her look is very dramatic as opposed to the almost dainty quality of the others. In my opinion, there are three paths to take:
1. Bring back the harpist as she more closely matches the style of the existing courts
2. Rebuild the deck with the style of that incredible new queen. It would be a shit-ton of work but I am really digging that look.
3. Ignore my rambling as I am only one voice and this deck is already super awesome as-is, especially after the update.
Thanks again for the update and I can't wait to see more! Cheers

Re: Lucky Playing Cards
I'm no artist, so take this for what it is worth, but the cardback would look better (in my untrained eye) if the words "Lucky Playing Cards, Las Vegas, NV" were just removed. You have Roman numerals in the corner each facing toward the edge, but your Las Vegas text in just one place. I think it would look better completely removed and the circle/clover centered on the back.

Re: Lucky Playing Cards (wap)
kem-collector - that’s just an ad card. The actual card back is mirrored on the reverse of the tuck. Although it has been adjusted since that initial photo. I’ll post the updated back shortly...

Re: Lucky Playing Cards
OK, I am seeing it now. I really like that. The only thing that jumps out and draws my attention away from the awesome art are the horseshoes embedded in the borders - on the cards and the back. That just seems to break the flow for me, but looks like it is part of the logo/brand, so I can see why you would want it there. Either way, I'd buy it for sure...love all the green!
