Well, I recently joined to themagiccafe.com, because I'm interested in learning card Magic. I received that message you mention and I paid for two decks and.... that's how I met this new forum (great forum ^^).

Awesome to see this community coming together to create a deck, though. I wish I was around to give some constructive criticism because, honestly, I'd prefer a simpler design. I know it was stated that the designs are final, but I'd still like to express my thoughts--maybe they can be considered for v2
I wish the diamonds on the back were either replaced with a solid color or less detailed. Also, I think it would look better if the silver border on the back was excluded. I know everyone's tastes are different, but for some reason I have been obsessed with simplistic designs recently. With that being said, I think I might purchase 2 of these babies just to show my support. I hope this comes to fruition and is a huge success.

how do other designers get prototype decks made so that you can film an advert? I think you almost need a teaser like that to help generate more sales. 700 is a lot, but it's still a good distance from 2,500. Is there any way a local print shop can make a 1 off deck? Just curious because I know there is a lot we can do on social media if we had something to wet people's whistle.

It seems evident to me that we cannot sell 2500 decks to forum members only. So I was thinking, "Maybe Mike could do one of his presale ebay auctions!" But then I thought that would defeat the purpose of having a deck specially made for forum members. So then I thought, "What if there's a way to let anyone buy it (like on ebay, BMP website, FB, etc.) but do something unique for forum members only." That way, we have a better chance of getting the deck funded and still have a unique element for forum members! I know it's probably impossible to change up the tuck box on a limited run of 2500 but maybe add a custom seal? Or an autograph by Mike and/or Randy? Or... something else?

What do you guys think? Because I would hate to see this deck come this far and not be made due to lack of funding.

You can't do ebay because it will just open myself up to lots of problems since the delivery time is so far out. In addition, you have to be able to have a product available within 30 days of making it for sale. 1800 decks is what needs to be sold to just cover the printing of the deck. If necessary, we will make this deck a kickstarter project. This has been suggested by quite a few members, so that is probably the way we will go.

No offense taken. Shipping rates have gone up dramatically. That is why they are so high. there isn't anything I can do about it.

Just continue. It doesn't make any sense to do that, especially since those decks will cost a little bit more because of the fees for selling on Kickstarter.

Yea, I realize that you want to keep costs down as much as possible, but for the sake of seeing this come to fruition, I think to reach your target audience, it would be wise to throw it up on kickstarter. I've seen decks that were a lot worse (A LOT WORSE!) do pretty well. In the long run it's all about seeing this deck printed. And who knows, it could become an annual thing?

I read once you'd include an add card - this plus the dot com on the tuck box I think would also serve to grow this community even more - which in the end would be a wonderful thing for this website as well as bmpoker world.

If it were to go on kickstarter my initial impulse would be to consider adding a gaff card. This would drive more magicians to purchase it and you could offer a contest here to design the "ultimate gaff"

I think the guys here (are there any women on this board?) would help design a gaff for the chance of getting a single free deck.

oh yea, I had forgotten about the Queen card you guys made, I guess I was still thinking of the Joker mouse (light on and off) a post back a few said that was a "gaff" joker.

Why are you bringing this back up?!! We have the Ad Card and the decked out UC Queen of Hearts. As for the comments about getting a proto deck and shoot a video - paying $500 for a one-off deck that won't have any embossing or foil doesn't really make any sense for a deck that doesn't have a budget! Besides, the Renders can create the buzz on their own.

I know that many Kickstarter pledgees like to feel included with picking gaff designs and extras but this deck has a few special circumstances. 1. It's a promo deck so the goal is to raise awareness for the UC, not make as much money as possible like other KS deck projects. 2. I donated my work on the UC Deck as ProBono. I asked Mike not to mention it, but since it looks like it will probably be launched as a Kickstarter I figured I better throw that out there. 3. The USPCC worked with Mike on the pricing to make it possible to print a small 2,500 run with a Tuck that has an abundance of Foil Stamping and Embossing - all for a low rate to make a $4.95 price point.

Just to give everyone an update, the project has been submitted to Kickstarter for approval. Once the project goes live, I will let everyone know. We are offering only 1200 decks through Kickstarter. I have set the goal at $6,000.

What is the difference? You would be pre-ordering either way right? It is the same thing. If we don't offer the deck through Kickstarter, It will end up taking a lot longer for the deck to get produced. Also by pre-selling it, we can have a much smaller Kicksatrter goal.

Well as I stated above, it would have been nice to be able to sell them all to UC members, but it will end up taking to long for the deck to fund so I thought it was better if we put it on Kickstarter to move it along.

Smart move putting it on KS Mike. This should really speed up the goal and also create a lot more traffic for the site.
