If I understand this campaign, it not about producing the Leonardo decks (two decks from a previous printing are included though), but is really about producing stands based off of Leonardo's horse design. I like the design and is different than other playing card display pieces I have seen. Given what is proposed, I don't think the price is unreasonable (about $100 for the pair of stands and decks shipped to the US). Heck, I am spending about as much for something similar for the Frozen London Diffractor deck in an "ice cube". I think this would make a stunning display piece for the gold and silver Leonardo decks.

Yes, the price is quite reasonable, this is one of the most expensive projects we have yet produced. And like you stated, this is for two very unique and complex decks.

I think it is an interesting choice to have them as one piece, not necessarily a bad one though. I think most of these will be mostly display pieces so it will generally appear the same wither way.

The only thing is if they were stands then a collector could choose to rotate other decks in and out of them for display.

Yes, hopefully, Leonardo Masterworks, will be displayed as a prized collector’s piece. This is one reason we decided to make them one object and not separable. The design of the Stage with the metal horse, is integral to the original Leonardo paper tuck design.

ah, something about the holidays really seem to bring out the best and worst in us all... *sigh* I had hoped that the little personal spat in this thread that had been an accumulation of pent up feelings built up through quite a few incidences among members would be a fire that would've just burnt itself out (and for a bit, it seemed like it miraculously had! alas...) But it looks like we need to step in and remind everyone to keep the personal attacks off the boards. Criticize one another's actions/opinions all you want - go for it! - but name-calling/ad hominems are against the forum rules no matter how you try to rationalize it.

Remember, UC is a place we want to be positive and engaging for ALL users - members and creators alike - so it's up to ALL of us to keep it that way. With that said, everyone's free to express themselves, but before pushing the post button to do so publicly, please take a moment to consider carefully what you've written, how and the tone in which you had done so, and how it may be perceived by others and affect those reading it because you will be held accountable. I've blocked two people here at UC, and one of them have since been banned from the site. It's a great feature, but not perfect. While it hides any nonsense posted by the blocked member, you still have to endure their post if it's been quoted by another member.

I too am not a fan of tuck swaps, and this is a tuck swap on steroids. I always value the actual cards first, and the tuck is secondary. At the end of the day, I play with the cards, not the tucks. If there's going to be bling, I'd prefer it on the cards instead of the tuck. If the tuck is pretty, it's just a bonus, but not something I am willing to pay too high of a premium for. I am passing on these as I have passed on all of Dent's other projects since his first disastrous one. To be fair, it appears his other projects have gone fairly smoothly without any broken promises or undue hubris, but it's still too soon for me.

We have had some backers asking for a view of the inside of our Bog Oak Vault.

Our exceedingly rare Bog Oak Vault is handmade in Europe. The Leonardo inspired hexagonal case is precision made throughout. A 24K gold plated bronzed steel Battle Horse is artfully embedded into the top, and serves as a handle.

Inside, the wooden vault has a custom insert to hold a signed and numbered Leonardo Masterworks | Studio Limited Edition pair. The vault is hand sanded and finished with six coats of oil!

Part of the high value of our Bog Oak Vault is simply the inherent expense and rarity of the wood itself. Not only is age-certified bog wood difficult to regularly source, it is all very time consuming and expensive to prepare from the moment of discover in the bog (!) till it reaches the wood-shop.

Also, Bog Oak wood is well on its way to… STONE! It is very very hard, and therefore extremely hard on tools, thereby taking more time to finish.

Here is an example we have just received from our master European boxmaker - this case is a custom one-of-a-kind for my daughter's 1001 Nights project. The finish is superb.

From the 24K gold plated bronzed steel Battle Horse on top… to the ancient Bog Oak itself… we are very excited about our Leonardo Masterworks vault!

The Battle Horse is 24K gold plated bronzed steel, and is 3D printed. There are two alternative silver finished available :

Bronzed-Silver - A metallic silvery colour with a bronze tint.
Nickel: Thin layer of nickel plating providing a shiny silver grey colour

And we’re also doing some very cool figures, in blackened steel, that’s an option too. The black will look great with both your Edition Gold and Edition Silver Leonardo Playing Cards.

I will get a sample of each and send you the details as we go into production. Then you can choose which you want.

I have had our Rhombicuboctahedron printed in the Bronzed-Silver and it looked awesome.

About half of our backers for a new campaign are previous patrons, and reaching them is an important key to our continued success.

There are lots of card designers with one or two projects, some very successful ones, but then “poof!” they are gone… we have found that our past backers, loyal to the cause, are our greatest asset. And we profusely apologise for our “over persistent” marketing to them. But like you say hsbc... promotion is tough!

We are working to build a sustainable playing card business, and we are close to getting there. The help of all our wonderful backers here at United Cardists are an important piece of the puzzle and we are very grateful for all your support!

One click and the eMail is gone, so I don't bother that much either. But I'm not subscribed to a lot of newsletters anyways due to not liking ads as well. Especially if it containes bold exaggorations like E! marketing or alike.
