Titanic Tarot Cards now live on KS

This is a follow up to Robert's Titanic project from a few years ago.

For those who do not remember, here's a link to the original project

Yes it is a nice tarot deck... I found my pics of the cards on the original thread. Got a superb chest on the initial project with every permutation of class decks (12 unique decks in total based on the labels of course). This will be a nice addition

Each deck had a label with a real name of a passenger including which room they had on the ship. The tucks with the Ship afloat had survivor names and the tuck with the sunken ship had names of passengers that perished. The sideways tucks if i remember well were first class passengers and maybe crew (i forget now)

WOW i really like this. This could be my first Kickstarter Tarot deck.
But is it legit ? I'm a bit confused with RJ Tomlinson and his ex Wife... and their kickstarter accounts.

As far as i know RJ runs Barclay Mountain company and his last project was this ? (different account! to this new project.)
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/ba ... ing-cards/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

also read this post by RJ:
https://www.unitedcardists.com/viewtopi ... 54#p153854" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Maybe someone can bring some light in this...

Thanks for checking out the project. It was nice to revisit the Titanic project after all these years. With this one, each deck will come with a more authentic looking boarding pass. The boarding pass is modeled after the one used in the movie but with slightly different wording.
I'll be visiting WJ printing (along with other printers in Dongguan and Shenzen). I'll be sure to post photos of their new factory.

I backed this for now, but I don't see any mention of the minor arcana despite being a full tarot. There's really no such thing as "standard" when it comes to tarot, so I'd really like to know what they're going to be.

What I see is good. Very original theme for a tarot deck and actually pretty creative use of imagery. Agree that the Tower is a breathtakingly good choice.

That treasure chest for the poker set is something else Pete!

Yes, the entire deck including the minor arcana will be fully custom. As you can imagine, it's a very long process designing 78 cards. I'm in the process of designing the minor cards now and we'll post as the weeks pass by. I didn't fully finish the minor cards because if it doesn't fund, then I might as well stop wasting my time.
Unfortunately, just like most of my work, this project isn't looking too popular. I'm going to keep designing for now but if the trend continues to go south, I'll probably end up canceling.
If I cancel, I'll strip down the project and launch with a lower goal sometime in the future. I'm just getting tired of putting so much effort into these projects that nobody seems to want.

Don't cancel, let the campaign play out! :D You never know what might happen

These are great and the price is actually lower than I'd have thought, especially with the wooden box :D

Yes... I tried hard finding a manufacturer that could produce the wood box just how I wanted it but also keep it affordable. I knew it was risky making the wood box a part of the pledge instead of just having it as a add-on. The MOQ was 300 boxes. Much like coins, it's not easy to make a profit off the custom coins because the MOQ is 100 and for me I'm lucky to sell 10 (leaving me with 90 coins).
If it doesn't fund, the next attempt will be without the wood box unless I can talk the manufacture into a MOQ of 100.

Is it just me that sees a skull with a grin on the iceberg on the tuck box? Nonetheless, very nice artwork and attention to detail, I really like these. How the classic tarot imagery is transformed into the Titanic theme is very well made. Unfortunatly my funds are as low as the wreck of the Titanic... :? I would love to see them get funded to pick a deck up later, so, fingers crossed.

@badpete amazing box set. This is some crazy packaging. Thanks for sharing.

Not just you, and it's not an accident. Robert is very deliberate in his work. That's why I enjoy his decks so much. I've pledged for two, and I really hope this funds.

Didn't really mean for it to sound like a threat to pull my pledge, I have never cancelled one yet. There were a tiny handful of EBs left when I had to leave for my workout so I snagged one on impulse knowing I could make up my mind later if I'm on the fence. Hearing that the minor arcana will be fully illustrated is very encouraging.

I actually think it's great work and a good deal considering. I plan to let my pledge ride, I hope it funds and actually wish the stretch goals would be reached because they're exceptionally generous (a free coin? who does this?).

For those of you that supported the project, thank you!!!
If you were a backer of the Bicycle Titanic cards and you back the tarot project, I'll do my best to make sure you're assigned the same passenger or crew member. You can also opt to be assigned someone random or pick someone new. The choice is 100% yours. If you pick someone new, you'll be given priority in picking based on your backer number. Those that backed me first get first picks.

I respect your opinion. I would respect it more if you would expand upon it. This deck is done with love and respect to bring honor to this moment in history. As you should know from my track record, 99% of all projects that I do are history related. I would say that a Titanic themed tarot deck is the most fitting theme I ever seen for a tarot deck.
Tarot is a representation of the journey of life. From life, death, greed, sacrifice, redemption,resurrection.... all the elements of life (tarot) can be found within the stories of the Titanic. I say stories and not story, as there's 2,224 stories from that night in 1912.

I respect your feeling but I would like to know why you don't think this is the right subject matter. I just want to better understand what you feel. Perhaps I'm not seeing what you're seeing.

Tarot decks, in general, are not for me. Admittedly, I know very little about tarot decks, their history, use, symbology. However, I have always thought of tarot decks as being more mystical, perhaps occult. I see fortune tellers, and gypsies. More spiritual symbology with spirits and demons.

So as a person with that impression, I also thought it was a bit odd to have a tarot deck based on a historical tragedy. Like everything else, everyone has their own personal take on things and meanings get lost or transformed over time. I'm sure I could easily find a tarot deck with cute little fairy's and dragons.

There is only one tarot deck that have ever seriously thought of getting and I will be there with an open wallet on launch day because I absolutely love the art.

I think with the various meanings behind a tarot deck, the theme of one is probably even more personal than a regular deck of cards to many people, whether the art is great or not.

I don't think I've shared this anywhere but my Bharata Major Tarot Arcana has been the most ordered deck on my site. I remember it had humble beginnings with only 112 backers pledging through Kickstarter (majority of the inventory remained with me after fulfilling KS pledges) but afterwards, I started receiving 1-2 and sometimes more orders almost every day long with regular fan emails. One think I noticed was that almost 98% of the orders were for single deck alone so I assume they were for personal use. I never thought this would happen with this deck but damn I was wrong.

It is only now that I am left with the last few decks & even thinking to do another print run while the major requests I've received is to do a full 78 cards tarot deck, which has been a bit difficult to do this year or the last one.

I do hope Titanic Tarot deck gets funded on Kickstarter and receive the same or even better success than Bharata tarot post KS.

When I think 'Tarot' - Titanic wouldn't be in the Top 1,000,000 ideas that I'd connect to what Tarot is (to me). Titanic is historical, but Tarot is more than that (again, to me). It's something mystical and illogical. Titanic doesn't fit that description.

Am I crazy for wishing it could work the other way around? A RWS tarot deck in poker size, on quality cardstock (USPCC, Cartamundi, etc). Would a 78 card deck be difficult to handle? Yes. Would it be worth it to incorporate Major Arcana cards into cardistry or magic? Oh yes. And unlike gimmick deck shapes, this would really only require a little more hand strength and practice with the thicker deck. I'd custom cobble two decks of Bikes to practice just to use this deck effectively, no problem.

For realz, if someone is reading this, I would pledge for a bunch of those. Give it a suitably occult, borderless back and I will not complain for a moment that the faces are "standard".

It's coming along, slowly but steadily! Have you reached out to any other tarot campaigns to do cross-promotion? Might help attract a few backers :D

EDIT: And yes you NEED to get on IG to promote this

This has been a slow start but it's steaming along, meeting the daily kicktraq minimum consistently. Got a pretty good jolt in the last 24 hours as well, I am now optimistic that this will fund even without further help. Obviously I'd like to see this promoted, those stretch goals would be great.
