Just curious why this is, because they re-printed the Nuggets or because they are allegedly the company behind the IP rights case against Hanson Chien Playing Cards?

I was never vocal against reprints or recolours. Quite the opposite. The more, the better. People like different colours so I don't mind companies printing what ever they want and I don't mind companies that recolour decks to every colour of the rainbow and beyond.

IP claims on the other hand is something I don't tolerate at all. So, as long as I don't know for sure that EPCC is innocent, I won't give a cent to any EPCC printed deck anymore. Same thing, why I'll never give a cent to Elephant playing cards. That claim against that independent creator that did that Pipmon deck back then, was way too ridiculous to be tolerated by me.

I am at a loss as to why this deck led to a less-than-courteous spat.

Is it an expensive deck? Yes.

Do I like it? Not really (not the biggest fan of combining Gio's artwork and standard EPCC design - go for one or the other but not both).

Does this mean that I would think less of Gio or EPCC? Most definitely not.

If one does not like a particular deck, they can vote with their wallet but there is absolutely no need for name-calling and fingerpointing.

Meh - come on people, we are better than this.

I'm very well-aware that hot foil stamping wasn't "new" for even the Exquisite Gold deck. When Venexiana Gold came out, with all of Lotrek's claims about being the "1st hot foil-stamped deck" (etc), JR posted images of a 1980's Bicycle Rider Back bridge set that was both foiled and gilded (I eventually found and bought said set).

There are going to be hype-wads that buy this no matter what - because "there's only 90 available". So "voting with your wallet" makes literally no difference to the benefactors. As we've seen with Sonic: the Hedgehog, and even more recently with Justice League Snyder Cut news, social media complaints do work.

This is wrong, and bad for the hobby.

This is the reason why I keep coming back at your arguments and jabs (and not considering them as constructive criticism). You're the only one here labeling people who buy this deck the hype-wads immediately while you fail to admit that JR followers are the same "hype-wads".

The truth is you don't like the price, don't buy it, both for Gio and for JR. "There's only 90 available" ain't a marketing scheme in this case, as you continue to claim, because the truth is there IS ONLY FREAKING 500, and Gio---AS THE CREATOR---only has 90 for himself. While this marketing scheme is highly criticized for many other decks that CLAIM to have "Only 2000," "Only 5000" printed, they limit the number of decks available, letting this bulk sale SELL OUT, and keep in secret a few more for limited releases of other dates or holiday sales. That's the controversy that draws criticism.

But you're just here instead making the jab and name-calling against Gio for doing the same thing while he's never capitalized on this limited-thus-price-raise-and-I-hide-a-few-more scheme that you're accusing him for. Btw, Fortuna is a limited collaboration deck, like it or not; Gio ain't the only one to take your self-righteous heat if you think you're so full of "criticism".

Dude - take a step back, separate your emotions from the discussion, and read my posts thoroughly. I'm not going to combat your inferences, that are wrong, about what I've posted. It's a waste of my time when you twist my words into sentiments that aren't being conveyed.

You're wrong.

Seriously, as much as I enjoy some circle jerking, like every other internet rando in here; there is a time to stop. There is no reasoning with some therefore, if one thinks some people are dumb for buying a deck to a certain price, so be it. It is just a subjective opinion! As much as I share your opinion, I really don't see a point in keeping this discussion alive, Ted.

It is kind of a mysterium to me though when e.g. Adonael gets a friendly reminder in the eBay on crack thread to watch his wording a bit and other users are allowed to fly constantly with negative spat.

One person confusing opportunity with outcome is more unreasonable than one seeing through a translucent marketing ploy. Said person has also confused that while 3 is a whole number, it can be divided into a few smaller numbers. I can only hope that others are self-aware.

I think that UC Moderation is simply emotionally removed from the conversation and sees that there are no implications in my posts. You and Ted appear to perceive otherwise. 2¢

The IP complaint against The New Chicken Nuggets by Hanson-Chien that got both this KS campaign and its predecessor pulled from KS' existence.
Thanks, after reading the thread I'm still confused why people are against EPCC for that... but will discuss in that thread

============================================

The conversation between 2pc and deckno is not getting anywhere because looks like they are talking about different things... one thing I agree with 2pc is that using limited quantity to boost price is BAD for the society, the same reason I dislike JR's reprints and I dislike the upcoming exquisite deck. But there are couple categories of collectors willing to pay: completionist, fanboys, pure supporters, and rich men looking for ways to spend their money. While the collectors who appreciate art will have to pay for the premium price because of the existence of those people.

One thing you guys have to admit that the profit margin for limited well-known decks used to be super high in aftermarket. The creators/designers are smart enough to notice that and they start taking a bigger and bigger cut on the profit by raising the price at release (I nominate JR to the one best at doing this). I'm not condemning anyone but this is just something I observe nowadays.

============================================

Back to Exquisite Fortuna, Gio is selling 90, on convention couple are sold. what about the rest? Will EPCC sell them later?

Hmmm, I never thought of it this way. While I will still only pay what I think a deck is worth to me, from a designer or reseller, I would much rather the designer get the bulk of the the profit than some price gouging reseller. I realize all resellers are not this way.

Problem being: Regardless of how high you set MSRP - the 'dealers' will always price even higher (see: all Lotrek decks).

It ends up just turning designers into dealers, themselves, and screwing us (the customers) even more.

Easy way to not be "screwed" is not to buy. You aren't owed the opportunity to buy something at the price you want. You complained about it, you even got some movement from Gio about the price. The horse is dead now, suggest you stop beating it.

Nope. Those who want to have a complete Exquisite collection are still screwed. It'll get dropped when EPCC releases the rest of the decks at a 'more reasonable' price. However, then, I suspect everyone else will complain that they got rear-ended in this deal.

By a show of hands, who's going to buy this deck?

Once again, whoever wants any deck, will buy regardless of price.

If companies and creators sell an over priced deck, will they continue doing so?

While I was having those made, I ordered a whole bunch of playing cards with backs that had my name, e-mail address, and phone number on them for use when I went to writing and science fiction conventions. (They make great conversation pieces, as you might guess). Those had hot foil stamping in silver, on a variety of different colored printed backs.

I agree and am confused why people are so against EPCC if it really is them behind the IP suit and will also express my thoughts on that thread.

As for Exquisite Fortuna, I believe that the EPCC remaining stock will be released on Black Friday, most likely through the CARC website, but don't quote me on that.

I guess I am doing the opposite in answering, but I will not be. This not because of the price or because I'm against EPCC for some reason. It is because of the standard courts and the poor design on the tuck.

They had a tremendous opportunity here with Gio to make an actually exquisite deck worth the asking price and they punted.

If it were just a matter of supporting Gio I might have but I have no doubt that he will still sell out of these without my purchase.

Yes EB burned in few minutes - from now on I'll restock just the "regular" Exquisite. I hid the "Early Bird" to avoid confusion (it's still viewable if you bought it)

Anyways... Exquisite apart, there are really great deals on other stuff too!

Thank you for the awesome support, as always!

Selling out and being overpriced can both be true and not mutually exclusive. Especially when being overpriced usually comes down to personal opinion. There is all kinds of stuff that is way overpriced that sells like crazy all the time. Anything Apple, for instance. For me, the only interesting parts in the design were the back and the jokers.

There was a pretty small amount available. So even with some of the usual buyers abstaining due to whatever reason, they were still likely to sell out quickly. As stated above, I think multiple times.

Definetly agreed. After seeing what happend in the last days (Gold Artisans, JN OR) I fell that these were almost a bargain though.
You want to reclaim your mind and get it out of the hands of the cultural engineers who want to turn you into a half-baked moron consuming all this trash that’s being manufactured out of the bones of a dying world.
